"Smack!"
"ah!……"
"Bang--"!
"thump……"
In the dark room where the lights were off, a series of incomprehensible sounds rang out, mixed with the girl's terrified screams and the sound of the wind.
Then things returned to calm.
After a long while, they finally heard rapid breathing and suppressed moans from someone.
As the door creaked open, the lights in the room came back on.
The group of people who had just left the ward, and even those who had visited earlier but had already said goodbye, all appeared at the door.
A group of people stared with contempt and almost pity at the man who was awkwardly lying in front of Xiaolan's hospital bed, unable to get up.
Xiaolan sat on the edge of the bed, her face showing not only innocence but also genuine panic.
"Is...is this Dr. Kazato?" she said somewhat flusteredly, reaching out to help the person on the ground. "I'm sorry, I didn't know it was you..."
"I thought someone was going to attack me, so I instinctively..."
"No, Ran," Eri Kisaki and Kogoro Mouri, who should have already gone home, stepped forward at the same time, blocking their daughter's way. "You did a great job!"
Conan, with his short legs, was relegated to the second group. He ran over at this moment and stared intently at the man on the ground.
"Sister Xiaolan, he is the murderer who killed two police officers and shot and wounded Officer Sato!"
"Huh? W-what?" Kind-hearted Xiaolan vaguely remembered what her parents had told her: that she had lost her memory because she was involved in a murder case related to the police. Her face immediately changed.
"But how could Dr. Kazato..."
"No, you've misunderstood..." Dr. Kazato, who was lying on the ground, struggled to sit up, his face showing an awkward and helpless smile, and began to make excuses.
"I was just doing a routine room check, but Miss Mori was probably startled; she caught me off guard all at once..."
"Routine ward rounds?" Kogoro scratched his head. "Wasn't that already done an hour ago?"
"And why don't you, as a doctor, turn on the lights when you make your rounds, or knock on the door to wake the patients beforehand?" Yoruichi Toyama chimed in.
Amuro Tooru, standing next to him, shrugged.
"Don't bother arguing with him. Just send that syringe in his hand for testing, and we'll know what he's up to."
"Ah, this..."
Dr. Kazato gripped the syringe tightly in a panic, his whole body trembling.
Detective Takagi, who couldn't get a word in edgewise while listening to the detectives and their apprentices each say their piece, finally had a chance to step forward, carefully take the syringe filled with an unknown liquid, and at the same time restrain the dejected doctor.
“I’ve already called a colleague to come and cover for me while I take the suspect back to the police station.”
Although Takagi's words were simple, his thoughtful arrangements prompted Eri to nod in appreciation, while glancing at Kogoro beside her.
"It's clear that there are still reliable people in the Metropolitan Police Department, and they're not all like that smoking and drinking uncle. That puts my mind at ease."
"Hey, what kind of talk is that!"
Kogoro, unable to withstand provocation, immediately became furious.
In the middle of the night, the hospital room was suddenly filled with the sounds of the couple arguing.
The noise only subsided after the night shift nurse came over and gave them a stern lecture.
In the end, Kogoro, Eri Kisaki, and Kobayashi, who came to relieve Takagi, stayed behind, while the rest were ruthlessly sent back by the nurses.
Detective Takagi took Dr. Kazato, who had been silent since the exposure, back to the police station that night, knowing they would be working through the night.
Amuro Tooru took on the task of escorting Conan back to the detective agency.
As for Yoruichi Toyama, the mastermind behind this great show, no one praised him. He could only slink away behind a certain spy and a certain elementary school student as they strolled out.
"Where's Ms. Akemi?" Amuro Tooru, who had been holding back his laughter, finally couldn't help but turn around and ask.
Yoruichi Toyama shrugged.
"Let's take Ai home first. We don't need their help here."
While Akemi's insight in this case is surprising, from Yoruichi Toyama's perspective, it would be better if Akemi didn't get involved at all to ensure her safety.
As for the genius scientist lady…
Haha, we should be thankful she doesn't cause any trouble.
Yoruichi Toyama dared not expect that her mind, which was in perfect sync with Yoru Takato's, could come up with any serious reasoning.
Amuro Tooru seemed to hear his thoughts and nodded in agreement.
"You should all be careful lately, the distillery might make some moves."
"Ah...ah?" Conan, who was deep in thought, seemed to be startled and his whole body trembled.
"What's wrong with you?" Amuro Tooru squinted at him.
Yoruichi Toyama, who had a pretty good idea of what Conan was thinking, gave the big head a comforting pat.
"She's probably thinking about her sister Xiaolan."
This statement could be interpreted in either way, which relieved Conan, but a hint of disappointment still lingered in his expression.
"Yes...yes...I was thinking that Xiaolan was just going along with our plan; she hasn't actually regained her memory at all. After this shock, she still doesn't know..."
"Then you and Uncle Kogoro can discuss whether you can take Ran to some places she's familiar with, or let her meet more people she knows..."
As Yoruichi Toyama spoke, she winked mysteriously.
Conan suddenly had a flash of inspiration and exclaimed in his usual "Ah-leh-leh" voice.
"Oh, right! I heard from Aunt Fei that her whole family is going to Dorobiga Amusement Park this weekend, and they're also going to the park!"
