Gao Yuan's smile was gradually replaced by surprise. He habitually raised his eyebrows, but did not speak.
"I don't care if you're a criminal or whatever, anyway, I'm not a good person either..."
Ai's narration was somewhat incoherent, but she persisted in continuing.
"Besides, you had very serious aftereffects at the time, aftereffects I'd never seen before. I was very worried if I let someone else take you away..."
“Miss,” Gao Yuan shook his head, interrupting her, “you have left me with no way to repay you.”
"I'm the one who should be repaying," Ai replied hastily.
“You saved me and brought me to my sister.”
"That was just a coincidence..."
"And what about when you're faced with absinthe?"
Gao Yuan was stunned.
Ai looked intently into his eyes and sighed.
"That idiot detective told me."
“The police officer told him that Lan Zexi was actually Vermouth in disguise, and they guessed that she would use my case to test you.”
"If it weren't for concealing the fact that I'm still alive, you wouldn't..."
“No, Miss.” Gao Yuan finally found another chance to speak, but his voice was a little stiff. “I think you’ve misunderstood.”
"Lady Absinthe saw through my disguise and tried to win me over."
Seeing Ai's sudden look of surprise, he continued calmly.
"But I have absolutely no interest in that organization, and refusing her would definitely get me silenced, so I..."
"Then why don't you join her?" Ai asked. "At least that way we can still survive."
"Absinthe's promises are still trustworthy; she can protect you."
Gao Yuan glanced at her indifferently.
"Maybe it's because... I'm tired of this kind of life."
"Perhaps this will displease the detectives and officers, but murder is not my goal. Planning murders is merely a means to give my unremarkable life a little more meaning."
"But even that final meaning is about to be taken away by that 'idiot' you're talking about..."
Gao Yuan's expression wasn't exactly one of regret, but rather one of resignation as he seemed to have accepted the outcome with resignation.
"Then you shouldn't have died!" Ai Haibara chimed in. "Are you just going to admit defeat to him like that?"
"A complete idiot who has nothing but a sense of justice and incredible luck?"
“You have to live, keep him in front of you every day, and tell him, ‘I love that you can’t stand me but can’t do anything about it!’”
She exaggerated, and she didn't expect to convince the person in front of her so easily.
But Gao Yuan had already chuckled.
"Miss, your statement..."
"Don't call me Miss," Ai said. "If you're not used to being called Ai, just call me Haibara."
"Then, come back to the lab with me. I can guarantee that no one will bother you."
"I will treat you until you recover, so you can go and cause trouble for those annoying guys... or help them solve cases, whatever you like."
"I can't guarantee anything about things further ahead."
Ai spoke quickly, as if she were using this to make a decision for herself.
Gao Yuan looked at her carefully for a while, then reached out and touched his chest, bowing slightly.
"Yes, ma'am, mademoiselle."
...
After the last fireworks went out, Yoruichi Toyama finally let go of Akemi with reluctance.
That warm and soft body was so intoxicating that he wished he could hold it like that forever.
But in the dead of night, amidst the freezing cold, one of the two little ones beside me was in poor health.
It's time to go home.
They turned around and saw Ai and Gao Yuan walking towards them hand in hand without any hesitation.
"Your sister is pretty amazing!" Yoruichi Toyama said with a grin, his arm around Akemi's waist.
"After all, he's such a difficult puppeteer..."
"Of course!" Mingmei didn't hide her pride. "The women in our family are all proactive."
"That detective who kept making excuses and refused to confess, wasn't he caught by me after all?"
Her hand reached for Yoruichi Toyama's hand that was on her waist, and then their fingers intertwined.
Let's go forward together in this posture.
"So, what about our elite police inspector, the eligible bachelor?"
Several people turned towards the riverbank at the same time.
The silhouettes of a man and a woman embracing intimately are bathed in the hazy moonlight, creating a rather beautiful scene.
Even their kissing postures were as standard as those in classic romantic movies.
A couple who had already confessed their feelings for each other, and a couple who hadn't yet established a relationship, all stared wide-eyed in disbelief, some of the huskies even had their mouths half-open.
Is this the first time you two have met?
Is it developing that fast?
It makes us look like clowns...
Seeing that the two were gradually coming to an end, Yoruichi Toyama finally mustered up the courage to cough once.
Upon hearing the sound, Akechi and Yoko separated and turned to smile at them.
“You… uh, I mean…”
Yoruichi Toyama tapped them with her fingers for a while, unsure of how to ask a question.
Mingzhi stood up straight with a serious expression and straightened his slightly wrinkled coat.
"On New Year's Eve, with such beautiful scenery and moonlight, do you think a gentleman should neglect a beautiful lady?"
Busy, bustling! ...
Yoruichi Toyama pursed her lips, clearly not wanting to pay any attention to this self-righteous, radiant guy.
However, Yoko smiled sweetly and tilted her head back to look at the person next to her.
"Mr. Akechi is so kind..."
