Chapter 2: The Blind Box Cafe, but the Detective Agency Upstairs

Putting aside the fact that the kidnappers are completely unaware of the situation, calling the police might alert them and cause harm to the hostages.

The client asked me to handle the situation; if I actually call the police, wouldn't that huge service fee be wasted?

"Kid..." Kogoro squeezed out the words through gritted teeth, "You're ruthless!"

Seeing the man's impotent rage in the rearview mirror, Yoruichi Toyama smiled and nodded.

...

The taxi arrived at the Gu family mansion.

Uncle Mori was preoccupied with the large commission fee and didn't even consider sharing the fare. He jumped out of the car and rushed inside.

Yoruichi Toyama doubted whether he ever walked properly.

He turned around to greet Ran and Conan, only to see the three-headed elementary school boy, the Grim Reaper, dart through the gate at about the same speed as the old man.

...Oh, it's not appropriate to call it a primary school death god yet, since there are no victims in this case.

Conan, on the contrary, suffered his first setback since his debut as a newcomer.

This was the purpose of Yoruichi Toyama's trip.

So he wasn't very interested in the case. He just held the cat between his arms and stood at a distance, listening to Kogoro Mouri asking Mr. Tani a question while watching Conan running around the yard looking for clues.

The incident itself was unremarkable; it was simply that a rich girl, who had a privileged life, lacked the company of her family. Therefore, she conspired with the butler to plan a "kidnapping" in order to get her father to temporarily leave his busy work and return to his family.

The butler is a master at managing household chores, but he's a complete novice when it comes to criminal planning. Conan, having discovered the flaws in his plan, guides Kogoro through a few words of questioning, and Kogoro is already surrendering.

However, just as everyone was planning to go to the hotel where the little girl, Gu Jingzi, was staying to pick her up, the people who claimed to be "kidnappers" called again, demanding a huge ransom.

Both Mr. Tani and Kogoro Mouri, who were furious, believed that this was the butler's accomplice, but Conan, who was standing by, felt that things were not so simple.

Just when everyone was in a panic and had no clue what to do, the kidnapped little girl, Akiko, desperately shouted out clues about the hiding place over the phone.

Wow, no wonder he's the kind of kid who can plan a fake kidnapping. He's got both intelligence and guts.

Yoruichi Toyama listened silently, while keeping a close eye on Conan, who was clearly thinking rapidly.

He didn't need to do any deductions or anything like that, as it would spoil the plot, but he also couldn't just rush to save the little girl first.

It's best to let the person you're trying to win over have the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tani and Kogoro resumed their barrage of questions to the butler, but Conan, taking advantage of a moment when no one was looking, rode off on the dog in the yard.

Although she had seen this scene in the manga before, Yoruichi Toyama still felt a moment of embarrassment when she saw it being broadcast live.

Do you think you're Ryu Fujisaki's version of Yang Jian? ...

Just as Yoruichi was shaking her head, trying to shake off those pointless associations, she saw Ran running over.

"Conan! Where are you going?"

"Don't worry about that brat!"

As Kogoro Mouri shouted impatiently, Yoruichi Toyama reached out and stopped Ran.

"It's okay, I'll go after him."

As he spoke, he turned around and put the black cat under his arm down on the ground.

"Kotaro-kun, please show me the way."
