The laughter of "Hell's Puppet Master" Takato Yoichi came through the walkie-talkie again.
"Don't be nervous, Inspector Akechi." His voice carried a hint of sarcasm, but he didn't seem angry.
"I won't lay a hand on Miss Toma, since she didn't have time to do anything."
"It was Mr. Toyama who ruined my planned 'performance'..."
"However, I'm also getting a bit bored, so let's call it a day, as you all wish."
"Good luck, my dear detectives!"
After saying his last words, the radio went silent, leaving only the faint static interference.
Yoruichi Toyama breathed a sigh of relief as he looked at the somewhat bewildered Moegi.
Mingzhi seemed somewhat angry, and just as he was about to speak, the walkie-talkie next to him rang again.
“Mr. Akechi, Mr. Akechi!” came the guide Akakuma’s voice over the walkie-talkie. “Are you asleep? The radio at the dock has a message that a Mr. Kenchi wants to contact you.”
It seems that because the cell phone was unreachable, Inspector Kenmochi called the island via the radio from the pier.
Red Bear carried a radio used for contacting the dock and placed it in the classroom opposite his room after entering the gate.
Fortunately, it hasn't been ruined by Moegi as planned.
Akechi said "Understood" into the walkie-talkie, but his gaze lingered on Moegi for a moment before he asked, "Ms. Moegi, do you know where that puppeteer is?"
Meng Huang shook her head silently, then quickly added, realizing this was a question from a criminal investigator, "I haven't contacted him in person since I met him in the park. But he did give me a phone number at first."
This can hardly be considered a clue anymore.
Given Gao Yuanyao's vigilance, it wouldn't be difficult for him to anonymously obtain a temporary phone number, use it once, and then discard it.
Therefore, Mingzhi did not ask any further questions, but simply told her to give the number to the police when she got back.
Then she and Yoruichi Toyama walked out of the room together.
"I didn't mean to meddle..." Seeing the wise look in her eyes, Yoruichi Toyama shrugged.
Actually, it's because we're in the same industry, so I'll help him out if I can.
Mingzhi chuckled softly.
"This time, we really owe you a lot..." His voice sounded very gentle, "Even Kindaichi's annoying constitution didn't work."
"You've got to be serious!" Yoruichi Toyama laughed heartily. "Is it really appropriate for a police officer to be so superstitious?"
As they walked to the classroom by the main entrance, Akechi made no attempt to avoid them, and Yoruichi Toyama followed him inside.
Mr. Red Bear was already waiting there.
“That Mr. Kenmochi,” he said tentatively, his gaze lingering between Akechi and Yoruichi Toyama for a moment, “said he was a detective from the Metropolitan Police Department.”
“Yes.” Mingzhi showed his police ID without hesitation and picked up the walkie-talkie in front of the radio.
Mr. Red Bear wisely withdrew through the door.
"Hey, Inspector Akechi!" A loud voice came from the other end of the radio, and the tone was somewhat impatient.
“We’ve located the company that contracted the Golden Island tourism business. The registered name is indeed ‘Mitsuzone Kyuu,’ but they only handled the Golden Island business. Now all the funds have been transferred to overseas accounts, and we can’t find the company’s负责人 (person in charge). They’re about to declare bankruptcy…”
It's obvious that Gao Yuanyao had planned this all along, just to set up the "Undead Schoolhouse" as a killing stage.
Regardless of whether Menghuang succeeds or not, he will withdraw beforehand.
Therefore, the matter of having Inspector Kenmochi investigate the radio station can be dropped.
Having already spoken with Akechi and Yoruichi Toyama, Takato couldn't possibly be foolish enough to stay put.
However, at least Moegi's safety was guaranteed.
Mingzhi's expression wasn't very pleasant, but he simply nodded.
"Then, Inspector Kenchi, have the dock send a boat over to pick up the tourists from the island first thing tomorrow morning."
"There's no need to continue this trip."
"Huh?" Kenchi asked, somewhat surprised, on the other end of the radio. "So fast?"
"Didn't they say there was gold or something on the island..."
“Since the travel company is run by Gao Yuan, he should have come to explore the island before.”
Yoruichi Toyama finally couldn't help but interject.
It has to be said, no wonder this sword-wielding uncle and Hajime-chan are good friends, even their interests are so similar.
"Even if there really is gold on this island..."
A wise look flashed in his eyes, and he nodded in agreement.
"That's right, that's where his criminal funds came from."
He used the gold he found to start a travel company, or at least set up a shell, and then specially selected a tour group to come to the island to participate in a murder tour.
He's like a puppeteer from hell, detached from worldly interests, focusing solely on his artistic crimes.
Yoru Toyama glanced at him and knew he was thinking the same thing.
They seemed quite helpless against this old rival whose thought process was unconventional.
The swordsman on the other side seemed to be momentarily shocked by this selfless, murderous spirit, and paused before continuing:
"By the way, Inspector Akechi, the main reason for contacting you today is that a murder occurred at the Izu Princess Hotel around 10 PM tonight..."
Upon hearing this, both Akechi and Yoruichi Toyama became alert.
"...A tourist fell from a high-rise hotel room and died on the spot."
Mingzhi's lips twitched slightly, as if he was suppressing the urge to make a sarcastic remark.
