Chapter 23 The Longest Night for Detective Yokomizo

Before even reaching the hotel office that had been temporarily requisitioned to store corpses, Yoruichi Toyama stopped, feeling a little guilty.

"Um... is it okay if I don't go?..."

From the time he transmigrated to the present, he only caught a glimpse of the corpse from afar during the roller coaster incident, and he was so frightened that he almost fainted.

As for before the time travel? ...

Before he transmigrated, he had never seen any of them. In the two years he worked there, no elderly person had ever passed away in the community he was in charge of.

The thought of having to examine up close the body that had fallen from a building of more than 20 stories and had a large hole in it made Yoruichi Toyama feel apprehensive.

The detective from Yokogawa immediately looked at him with more distrust.

Akechi nodded in understanding, and was about to speak when a police officer rushed down the corridor, shouting at Yokomizo from afar, "Something terrible has happened! Misawa has been attacked!"

"Mizawa?" Yokomizo immediately tensed up. "Wasn't he guarding the body?"

Yoruichi Toyama and Akechi exchanged a glance, then followed Yokomizo and ran towards the office.

The office door was half open, and a group of police officers were surrounding it to prevent others from coming in. However, there were several people inside who were helping the attacked Misawa. In the chaos, they even stepped on the corpse next to them.

Mingzhi's expression immediately darkened.

"Shut up! Nobody move!"

His voice wasn't loud, but it carried an unprecedented severity.

The officers, who were used to following orders, fell silent and stood there staring at him blankly.

They seemed to want to ask "Who is this person?", but neither dared to speak.

Detective Yokomizo coughed lightly.

"This is Inspector Akechi, the head of the First Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department of this agency. Listen carefully to his instructions."

After saying that, he turned to Mingzhi with a fawning smile on his face.

"Um... we've finished collecting evidence regarding the body... They have a good relationship with Misawa, and they were a bit impatient, so..."

"Once the evidence collection is complete, you can treat it as useless, right?" Mingzhi asked coldly. "You're criminal police officers, don't you have any basic respect for the deceased?"

Wow! That's a really good point!

Yoruichi Toyama, who had originally wanted to say a few good words for these junior police officers, silently shut her mouth.

How many people were originally in this room?

Which people entered the room?

"Everyone come out now and take the injured to another room for treatment. No one is allowed to step into this room again!"

The wise leader, having established his authority, issued orders one by one, and no one dared to utter a single word of dissent, nor did they hesitate or linger.

Even Yokomizo had never seen his subordinates possess such outstanding execution capabilities before.

Standing a little distance from the doorway, Yoruichi Toyama, who was intently watching the spectacle, couldn't help but click her tongue in disapproval.

So, people weren't wrong to call Japanese police "salary thieves." It's not a matter of ability; it's a matter of questionable professional ethics.

The hotel where the murder occurred was neither cleared out nor cordoned off; this could be loosely explained by the fact that it was too late to evacuate so many tourists at night.

The room where the deceased's body was kept was not even cordoned off; only one person was assigned to watch it. When the incident occurred, a group of people rushed in.

They're really afraid the evidence won't be completely destroyed!

"Evidence?" Detective Yokomizo asked doubtfully. "Didn't I say the body evidence collection was complete? What other evidence is there?"

Yoruichi Toyama blinked before realizing that she had unknowingly blurted out a sarcastic remark.

It seems that this Officer Yokomizo, being a die-hard fan of Uncle Mori, has a natural aversion to himself.

But there's no need to argue with him this time.

Although she strongly requested that Akechi bring her along, Yoruichi Toyama had no intention of getting involved in the case.

Nonsense, everyone's dead, why would I steal Conan's business?

Yoruichi Toyama's idea was to persuade Akechi to stay out of it, observe from the sidelines, and see who would ultimately solve the case.

Only a die-hard fan like Detective Yokomizo would believe it's "Sleeping Kogoro".

However, judging from Young Master Ming's temperament, it's unlikely he would tolerate a group of headless colleagues following the orders of some "detective."

Even if Hercule Poirot himself came here, it wouldn't make a difference.

Sure enough, upon hearing Detective Yokomizo speak, Akechi turned around and adjusted his glasses.

According to the tropes in their cartoons, if someone wearing glasses flashes their lenses, someone else is going to be unlucky.

However, Akechi didn't have a chance to speak.

As if to help detective Yokomizo out of a predicament, several more people hurriedly ran from the end of the corridor.

"Ah, Mr. Mori!" Detective Yokomizo recognized the leader and immediately stepped forward to greet him.

As a result, Mingzhi's "Wait a minute" brought him to an abrupt halt.

There's no way around it; no matter how charismatic an idol is, they can't compete with the absolute power of a higher-ranking official.

Moreover, it's more than one level older.

“Detective Akechi, this is the famous detective Kogoro Mouri.” Yokomizo tried to explain his enthusiasm.

Wise looked at him without being moved.

"Mr. Mori, aren't you also someone involved in the case?"

"And he has a child with him, where are you taking him?"

Behind me was the room where the police tape had just been put up. The body of the deceased, though somewhat disturbed by the attack by unknown individuals, was still there.

Detective Yokomizo finally realized what was happening, slapped his forehead, and went over to invite Kogoro Mouri and his group to another office to talk.

Akechi completely ignored Kogoro and the others, only glaring at Yokomizo.
