Chapter 5: Breaking into an empty house, but the ex-boyfriend

robber?

Yoruichi Toyama was stunned for a moment.

Logically speaking, in such well-managed high-end apartments, even if there are thieves, they are more likely to break in and commit burglaries.

It's unclear whether this was an exaggeration by the young woman after she panicked.

While these thoughts were still in my mind, my body moved instinctively.

Yoruichi Toyama reached out and blocked the elevator door, staring intently into the woman's eyes for a few seconds.

When dealing with someone who is panicking, shouting at them is useless, and professional habits prevent one from resorting to physical force. Therefore, this is the only way to help her regain a sense of security by letting others calm down.

“Miss,” Yoruichi Toyama lowered her voice, but her words remained clear, in an attempt to steer the conversation back to a rational level, “the robber you’re talking about, is he on the 25th floor?”

The elevator only stopped at this floor when it went up.

The blonde young woman took a deep breath, seemed to have recovered somewhat, and then nodded vigorously.

"What kind of person was that? Was there a weapon?"

"A man... a fat man... the weapon... I didn't see it clearly... he followed me in and then attacked me..."

The woman answered incoherently.

"I struggled to break free from him and ran away..."

Yuanshan Ye nodded, not asking any more questions, but instead turning her gaze to the real estate agent next to her, who was already somewhat stunned.

"Could you please accompany this lady downstairs to find the apartment manager and call the police together? I'll go upstairs first."

After saying that, he turned and ran towards the emergency staircase, while at the same time he heard a woman's suppressed screams behind him.

"No...don't go! It's dangerous!"

"No problem, I have help!"

Yoruichi Toyama ran, picked up the cat under her arm and shook it.

Taro let out a pitiful "meow" rather uncooperatively, its four legs struggling futilely in the air.

【Hey, stop! I don't want to go...】

At the same time, a slightly surprised exclamation came from inside the slowly closing elevator doors.

"Yuko Ikezawa! You're Yuko Ikezawa, right?..."

Hmm, it's someone I know? ...

As Yuanshan Ye ran, he thought to himself, and before he knew it, he had climbed to the 25th floor.

The corridor was quiet, and it didn't seem like anyone was using violence.

It's also possible that a burglar intending to break into the house happened to bump into the woman named Yuko Ikezawa and thus threatened her.

In that case, the thief who was obstructed would most likely have run away, but I didn't see anyone in either the elevator or the stairwell.

So maybe that guy is still hiding somewhere on this floor.

Yoruichi Toyama slowed her pace, cautiously looking around, and then gently put the cat down on the ground.

"...I said, you're not a police officer anymore, you don't need to make such a fuss, do you?"

Taro, who could be described as being held hostage, didn't hold back in his complaints.

“How can this be considered meddling? I still need to rent a place here!” Yoruichi Toyama replied without hesitation. “The civilized environment of the city depends on everyone’s efforts to maintain, don’t you understand?”

"Even if I weren't a police officer, I would still be a good citizen who helps others!"

While exchanging barbs with Taro using only his brainwaves, Yoru Toyama carefully stopped in front of a door.

"This should be it..."

How did you know?

Yoruichi Toyama stood by the wall and pointed with her toes at the crooked doormat in front of the door.

“Look, there isn’t much dust on this, so it must be cleaned regularly. But it’s so messy, it’s very likely that a burglar came in or that Ms. Ikezawa Yuko kicked it when she ran out.”

"And this..."

The black cat walked over and examined the mat closely, and sure enough, it found several long, curly golden hairs on it.

It looks very similar to Yuko Ikezawa's big, wavy blonde hair.

But the door is locked...

Perhaps influenced by Yoruichi Toyama, Taro also began to observe his surroundings.

Their gaze quickly settled on the intact door lock.

There are no signs of it being pried open.

“You forgot? Ms. Yuko Ikezawa said that she was the one who entered first, and the thugs followed her in and attacked her.”

"Given how panicked she was when she ran out, she probably wouldn't have closed the door. That door must have been closed by that fat thug."

So, the person still managed to escape?

"Not necessarily!" Yoruichi Toyama smiled mysteriously and knocked on the door.

The knocking was surprisingly loud, startling the black cat so much that its tail bristled.

"Let me tell you, I've been a policeman for two years and I've seen my fair share of clumsy thieves."

Then look at Yoruichi Toyama, who's still enthusiastically sharing her experience.

"There are indeed cases where people break into a house and are discovered, the homeowner runs out to call the police, and when they come back, they find the thief still hiding inside."

"Don't ask, the answer is that I was terrified and afraid of running away and getting caught."

Do you think this one will be the same?

After speaking silently, Yoruichi Toyama knocked on the door a few more times and called out, "Miss Yuko Ikezawa, is Miss Yuko Ikezawa home?"

Taro, relying on his ability to walk silently, went over and pressed himself against the door, and seemed to actually hear rustling sounds coming from inside.

"Who...who is it?"

A weak, feeble voice came from inside the door; it belonged to a man.

Yoruichi Toyama and Taro exchanged a glance and replied, "Deliveryman! There's a package for Ms. Yuko Ikezawa. Please come and pick it up!"

Hey! Call him out, just in case he can't win...

Yoruichi Toyama shook her head, but before she could answer, she heard another sound coming from inside.

"You...you've made a mistake, there's no such person here..."

The door remained closed.

"Sorry to bother you." Yoruichi Toyama said, walking a short distance towards the elevator at a normal pace, then tiptoed back and winked at Taro.
