Chapter 98 Exchange Conditions

Yoruichi Toyama felt that at this moment, Inspector Furuya's anger was directed at her.

After all, he was the protector of the Akemi sisters, yet he lost both of them within two days.

However, before he could speak, Akechi interjected, "This is my responsibility. I let Miss Akemi participate in such a dangerous operation and failed to guarantee her safety..."

"Hey!" Yoruichi Toyama abruptly interrupted him, "How can this be considered your problem..."

Rei Furuya stared at them both for a while, his gaze unusually cold.

"Now is not the time to investigate who it is. There's no need to put on this act in front of me."

Yoruichi Toyama immediately glanced nervously at Akechi.

That was a really harsh remark, but at this point, there was really no room for further argument.

Mingzhi simply sighed calmly.

"Okay, so how do we need to cooperate?"

The word "we" obviously includes all criminal police officers.

It should be said that being able to show such a humble attitude in front of the public security police is already the limit of wisdom for a criminal police officer.

But Furuya Rei didn't appreciate it at all.

"You're already doing well by not causing any trouble." He gave Mingzhi a disdainful look, then turned around. "Yuanshan, come with me."

"I must handle this matter personally."

Yoruichi Toyama gave a muffled reply, but out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of the cold glint in Akechi's glasses. She didn't dare say anything more, but quietly patted him on the shoulder before turning and following him.

However, at that very moment, the phone in my pocket rang.

When I took it out to look, I found that the caller was none other than Mingmei's phone.

Yoruichi Toyama quickly made a gesture and pressed the answer button in the otherwise silent office.

“Hello, Yoruichi…” Akemi’s voice came through the microphone immediately, slightly out of breath, but she didn’t seem to be in any serious condition.

"Akami!" Yoruichi Toyama instinctively gripped her phone tightly. "How are you? Where are you now?"

"I'm fine, here... Ah!"

No one knows what happened over there; the last thing heard was Akemi's half-scream, cut off midway.

The call wasn't disconnected, but it became silent.

Yoruichi Toyama resisted the urge to ask further questions and just stood there, holding her phone.

It is unclear whether Akemi was suddenly attacked or the call was abruptly cut off.

If it's the latter, speaking up rashly would reveal that she's calling for help.

Everyone on the other end of the phone held their breath.

I don't know how much time passed, maybe just a few seconds, but it felt incredibly long.

Suddenly another voice came through the microphone.

"Distant mountains... huh? Heh..."

The call was immediately disconnected, as if the other party didn't care to say anything more.

Yoruichi Toyama felt as if a giant firecracker had been set off in her mind, causing her vision to go black and her eardrums to fill with a shrill sound.

It felt like all the blood in my body rushed to the top of my head and then gushed out from there.

"Gin... Gin?" After a long while, he finally spotted Rei Furuya through the chaotic, flickering vision and asked hesitantly.

Rei Furuya walked over and put his arm around his shoulder before nodding and saying, "Yes, it's Gin's voice."

...

Of all the possibilities for Akemi's disappearance, the worst one is that she was discovered and kidnapped by Gin.

Yoruichi Toyama could never have imagined that one day this worst-case scenario would actually happen.

He clearly showed Gin that "Miyano Akemi" had been shot and fallen to the ground, and the police announcement and news reports confirmed Akemi's death.

Even if Gin is suspicious, he wouldn't be so certain that Akemi Miyano is still alive.

So……

So…………

Originally, Yoruichi wanted to continue her analysis, but she found herself stuck. All that kept echoing in her mind was the sound of "so so so so".

The light in the room seemed to dim rapidly, and the ceiling spun like the drum of a washing machine.

By the time he realized what was happening, he was already sitting on the sofa, his heart pounding in his chest, his mouth dry, as if he had just had a nightmare.

“…Alright, stop provoking him,” he heard Mingzhi say in his ear. “Get him a glass of water.”

Rei Furuya, who had brought over a water glass as instructed, snorted but didn't say anything more.

Yoruichi Toyama took the water glass, took a sip, took a deep breath, and then grabbed the cat next to the sofa.

"Where is Mingmei positioned now?"

“Tokyo Port, Tsukishima Wharf…warehouse area,” Furuya Rei replied, thinking he was referring to himself.

The GPS device on Mingmei was stored in her phone.

Since she just called on her cell phone, this location should be correct.

But Taro immediately objected.

[You were definitely there just now, but now...]

"Um?"

She has now left that place, traveling at roughly the same speed as before, heading away from Tokyo Port.

Before Yoruichi Toyama could speak, Rei Furuya reached out and placed his hand on Yoruichi's shoulder.

"You don't need to get involved in this matter; leave it to me."

"No...wait a minute!"

Seeing that he was about to leave, Yoruichi Toyama called out anxiously.

"You can't go! The police... can't go either!"

"Gin probably guessed that there was a tracking device in Akemi's phone."

"If he just leaves the phone at the dock and then takes Akemi away..."

Mingzhi immediately nodded: "Then I'll send Kenchi and the others over to check out the situation."

"Hey!" Rei Furuya frowned. "You detectives..."
