Chapter 23 The Longest Night for Detective Yokomizo

"This section of the corridor is completely sealed off, and two people are stationed at the door to keep watch."

"If we had done this earlier, we wouldn't have had to put the person in the room."

It's important to know that once the corridor is blocked off, even if hotel guests pass by, they won't go into that section anymore.

People who deliberately approach the office will become very noticeable.

The guards at the entrance were also much more proactive in handling the situation.

Detective Yokomizo blushed a little after realizing this, but Kogoro Mouri's next words made him even more ashamed.

“Mr. Yokomizo, that ‘Baron of the Night’ is definitely someone else!”

"Just now, he appeared in front of Ms. Sayama and my daughter Ran and attacked them!"

"Ah..." Detective Yokomizo opened his mouth, as if trying to stop Kogoro Mouri from saying anything more, but it was too late.

Mingzhi gave him a cool look.

"So you're saying you let these people involved in the case go back to their rooms freely, without even police escort?"

Yoruichi Toyama couldn't bear to look at Detective Yokomizo's embarrassed face any longer.

However, when he turned his head to the side, his eyes met Kogoro Mouri's.

"What, it's you again!" Kogoro shouted loudly, his hand almost pointing at Yoruichi Toyama's nose. "What are you doing here? The police are conducting a case, don't cause trouble, I'm telling you!"

"And who is this... this inexplicably sparkly young master?"

Yoruichi Toyama struggled to suppress her laughter.

It seems everyone has noticed Mingzhi's ever-present, cheap background effect.

Detective Yokomizo, already so devastated that he had no will to live, had no interest in caring about any of this.

“Mr. Mori, this is the officer in charge of this department…”

While introducing the two parties, he led them into another office.

It was also the place where the attacked police officer, Misawa, was temporarily resting.

Yoruichi Toyama deliberately lagged behind and waved to Conan, who was solemnly joining the ranks of the adults.

"Hey, Mr. Mori's little assistant, it's nice to see you again!"

Conan, who was deep in thought with his chin in his hand, immediately put on a grumpy face.

His face clearly said, "Who are you calling an assistant?"

However, Yoruichi Toyama quickly moved closer to him.

"Conan-kun, what do you think of this case?"

"Putting everything else aside, isn't the fact that 'Baron of the Night' suddenly attacked Miss Xiaolan too suspicious?"

Conan was already pondering these things, and once this was brought up, he immediately continued the discussion.

“Yes! If you want Mr. Jiang Yuan to bear the identity of the ‘Dark Night Baron,’ then you should quietly stay out of the way.”

"Appearing at this time not only exposes oneself, but also confirms that Mr. Jiang Yuan did not commit suicide, doesn't it?"

"By the way, that outfit... the 'Dark Night Baron' hat and cloak are fine, my dad... well, most of Kudo's fans would probably own a set, but just now, the person who attacked Ran and the others..."

"I clearly saw blood on his mask!"

Conan, who was talking to himself, suddenly looked up, and a bolt of lightning flashed past behind him.

At the same time, another officer next to Misawa said, "...The body is fine, but his clothes and mask have been stripped off..."

"I knew it!" Conan clenched his fist. "But who was it, and why..."

"The bag containing the body was opened, and the clothes on the deceased were stolen. You call this 'nothing happened'?"

A cold voice rang out, its sarcasm even interrupting Conan's thoughts.

"If there were traces of the murderer on the deceased's clothes... of course, that's not the case now, because they've already been stolen and will most likely be destroyed."

Akechi looked at Detective Yokomizo, who was wiping his sweat repeatedly, with a disdainful gaze that seemed to regard him as a lower being.

"I knew that the quality of frontline staff in local police stations wasn't very high, but I didn't expect it to be this low!"

"No wonder you guys worship those 'famous detectives on TV' like gods. At least their clumsy reasoning can cover up the fact that you don't know anything and can't even do the basic job properly!"

Under the wise and comprehensive barrage of fire, the entire room of police officers was silenced by the barrage of insults.

Yoruichi Toyama and Conan exchanged a glance and shrugged.

Because the police officers I've seen have always acted this way, I don't think I made a mistake in criticizing them.

Kogoro Mouri, however, was not happy about being splashed by this indiscriminate attack.

"Hey, young master, watch your mouth! Who are you calling a fool for your poor reasoning?"

"Aren't your words just empty talk? Tell me first, can you even get valid fingerprints from textiles?"

"What if the killer was wearing gloves?"

“Wearing gloves can also leave fingerprints.”

To everyone's surprise, it wasn't Akechi who refuted him, but Conan, who was seen by everyone as "a child but a capable assistant to Detective Mouri."

Conan, his mind racing and completely absorbed in the case, was oblivious to the imminent danger lurking nearby, and simply pondered, resting his chin on his hand.

"Not to mention the smooth, shiny surfaces on clothing, such as belt buckles, loops, and buttons, which are all great places to collect fingerprints."

"Even without fingerprints, since the murderer threw Mr. Jiang Yuan off the building, it's possible that he left something else on him."

"Including but not limited to hair, dander, bodily fluids, and odor."

"If we collect hair that doesn't belong to the deceased, it could very well be the first step in identifying the suspect's DNA, becoming the strongest evidence!"
