"No, it's really too far from Manchester to London."
Herman was panting; his physique was typical of an obese white child who grew up with a belly bigger than his head.
He was already exhausted before he even left Manchester, along the tracks between Central Station and King's Cross Station.
"I said, can we put our adventure plans on hold? It's too tiring to just walk."
"Could we wait until I get my driver's license this summer before we drive to London?"
Lawrence was somewhat thin, but his stamina was far superior to Herman's. He shook his head and said:
"How can we just give up like this?"
"How far have we gone? We haven't even left the Manchester area yet."
Herman was covered in sweat: "The problem is it's too hot right now. Can we wait until it's cooler before we go?"
"The end of the fall semester is a good time to go."
Herman looked up at the sun in the sky and said.
Lawrence shook his head: "If we go all the way there, any items left by the magician might be picked up by someone else."
"With so many explorers lately, I can't guarantee that no one else will discover this secret."
Magic has become a prominent field of study on Earth, with Sky News in England dedicating a special program every night to introducing knowledge related to magic.
Magic clubs are among the most popular clubs in universities, with many students forming groups to explore traces of magic.
The University of Manchester also has a magic society, and Lawrence and Herman are members of it.
Lawrence was very confident in the secret he had discovered, and he wanted to keep it a secret and not let more people know about it.
Therefore, he only brought his best friend Herman with him.
He hadn't anticipated the other person's stamina issues; they were already panting heavily after only about half an hour.
"Have you ever thought that if we could find traces of the existence of a magical society and become a magician, you would never have to walk on your own again?"
"Any spatial teleportation can take you from Manchester to London."
After thinking it over carefully, Herman felt that this little bit of suffering was nothing, and clenched his fleshy fist:
"Okay, I'll try a little harder."
"I really can't hold on any longer. How long is it from Manchester to London?"
Lawrence glanced at his watch and said helplessly, "Only ten minutes have passed."
"It's about 200 miles from Manchester to London."
Herman turned and walked back: "I might grit my teeth and go with you for 20 miles."
"Two hundred miles, I'm afraid I'll die here."
"And we only have five days of vacation. You know, it would take at least a month to travel 200 miles."
Lawrence nodded and said, "So what I'm thinking is that we go as far as we can in these five days, and then take the train back to Manchester."
"We might discover traces of magic before we've even walked twenty miles."
"You need to persevere in everything you do, how can you just give up like this?"
Herman shook his head: "I don't think I have the perseverance to stick with it, so I might as well give up early."
"Giving up is just an option; it doesn't mean failure."
"Go ahead, I'll be waiting for your triumphant return at the apartment."
No matter how much Lawrence tried to persuade him, Herman refused to continue.
In his view, whether they could even discover traces of magic was another matter, and even if they did, what benefits they could gain was unknown.
It's much more enjoyable to go back to your apartment, lie on the sofa, drink an iced cola, and play video games.
I haven't had enough of playing Futureverse yet, even though I just bought it.
At this moment, reason regained control of Hermann's mind.
Herman originally thought he was just going out for a day of adventure.
He thought it was a great idea to spend a day of his five-day holiday exploring the outdoors; even fat people need exercise.
But if he has to spend all five days of his five-day holiday exploring under the scorching sun, he might as well explore the virtual world.
Lawrence asked, "You really don't want to go on this adventure with me?"
Hearing the pleading in Lawrence's voice, Herman pondered for a moment and then said:
"It's not that I don't want to take risks with you, but such risks are very inefficient."
"We have to go to such great lengths just because of one sentence Rowling said in an interview."
Lawrence argued, "But many people have followed the route from Manchester to London in search of magic..."
The Manchester to London route has been second only to the prehistoric megaliths on Salisbury Plain in southern England in terms of popularity during this period.
Legend has it that Merlin used magic to move the prehistoric megaliths from Ireland to England.
The English speculated that this was a magic circle set up by Merlin.
Herman interrupted, "That's right, it's possible that traces of magic really exist."
“I also admire the preparations you made this time, including the fact that I had never thought of going to Central Station before.”
"The evidence you presented is convincing enough, but it's too difficult for us to find traces of magic on foot."
“I think we need to do more preparation, including looking for places in history that are associated with magic and myths, and where the route overlaps.”
"Instead of walking the entire railway line."
"After I get my driver's license this summer, I can drive my dad's car and go along this road again."
Lawrence looked a little dejected: "Okay, you go back to your apartment first, I want to wander around by myself some more."
Three days later, Herman, who was playing the VR version of The Witcher 3 in their rented two-bedroom apartment, heard someone open the door.
