Chapter 235 A Brand New Mechanism

The earliest lie detection mechanism can be traced back to 1870, when Italian psychologist Angelo Mosso discovered that a person's pulse changes when they are afraid or terrified.

This mechanism was first used to interrogate criminals.

In 1885, Cesare Lombroso, a student of Mosseau, invented an instrument to measure the blood pressure of suspects for use in interrogation to determine the veracity of their statements.

About forty years later, Vittorio Benusi, also an Italian psychologist, discovered that the ratio of inhalation to exhalation time changes when a person lies.

The mechanism of the lie detector has changed once again.

Although lie detectors have a history of about two hundred years, their accuracy is actually purely based on luck.

There is no sufficiently rigorous experiment to prove that lie detectors are truly reliable.

Lie detection mechanisms based on human physiological responses are less accurate than those based on the judgments of criminal psychology experts regarding a suspect's statements. This historical context regarding lie detection mechanisms demonstrates humanity's strong need to determine the truthfulness of information.

However, the previous mechanism could not achieve sufficient reliability.

The fact that lie detectors are unreliable does not mean that people do not have this need.

When the brain-computer interface mobile phone developed by Kechuang Bio was launched, a certain department of the Chinese government quickly realized that perhaps we could use brainwave neural signal maps to make lie detection judgments.

Whether it's possible or not is another matter.

Seeing a possibility and taking action is a basic principle.

Subsequently, a certain department in China contacted Zheng Li, who, as the technical support provider, created a complete lie detection mechanism based on brain-computer interface technology.

This lie detection mechanism has passed rigorous blind selection experiments and has an accuracy rate of over 90%.

We have already started trying it out internally.

Later, based on this mechanism, Zheng Li developed the "Truth" system.

After listening, Li Miaomiao urged, "Hurry up and tell me what it is, stop keeping me in suspense."

Zheng Li: "The newly developed system is internally named the Truth System."

"The main point is to determine whether what you say or what you are about to send out is the truth as you believe it to be."

"And it's not a simple yes or no judgment."

"Instead, the veracity of what they say is judged by the score."

"For example, your own personal experience is 100 points, then listening to others' stories is 75 points, listening to others retell the story is 50 points, and expressing your own imagined content might only get you 20 points."

"This system will be used on social media platforms such as Weibo, Douyin, and Toutiao."

The Chinese government was the happiest when Zheng Li's system of truth was created.

The situation in China's public opinion field is too complex, with all kinds of fake news emerging one after another.

They can easily fabricate news and cause a huge uproar.

With a truth-telling system in place, at least the authorities won't have to expend so much manpower and resources to investigate every fabricated news story. Li Miaomiao quickly realized the immense intrinsic value of the truth-telling system, its ability to fundamentally rebuild trust.

She countered, "This system is of great significance."

"I still want to ask, is its mechanism based on an individual's degree of belief in something?"

"Will that person's emotional fluctuations affect it?"

"For example, even if I don't believe it's true, I keep telling myself in my head that it is."

"Won't this approach affect the final score of the truth system?"

Zheng Li replied without hesitation, "Of course not, the truth mechanism requires repeated confirmation."

"It's not as simple as giving a direct answer; it's a complete and sophisticated system."

"The Truth System was first applied to Weibo. For example, when you want to post a Weibo, you use the Truth System to verify the content."

"As the blogger, you will repeatedly verify the credibility of the facts in this Weibo post, and we will interrupt your train of thought with different questions."

The classic mechanism of traditional lie detection is to use carefully designed questions to distract the subject from focusing on key issues and thus conceal the truth.

This mechanism has been used in new technologies.

"Even experts who have received special training in anti-censorship cannot fool the trust mechanism."

"At most, it can only be raised slightly. For example, if his level of trust in this matter is only 50 points, a specially trained person can raise the truth system by a maximum of five points."

"This still requires experts to understand the internal workings of the truth mechanism. If they don't understand the internal workings, even the most skilled expert can only raise the score by two or three points."

"Subsequent social media platforms will be integrated into this system."

Li Miaomiao countered, "Similar to our current electronic signature technology?"

"This is equivalent to Kechuang Bio using brain-computer interfaces to determine the authenticity of content sent by users, with the authenticity being judged by a series of mechanisms based on brain neural signals?"

"So we're essentially the certificate issuer, just an intermediary?"

Zheng Li: "Yes, you will see the system on major social media platforms later."

"For news related to current affairs, each news item will have the Kechuang Bio logo displayed at the end, with colors used to indicate the accuracy of the news."

"From now on, neither self-media nor mainstream media will be able to fabricate news based on hearsay or rumors."

"The people I spoke to said that one has no right to speak without investigation, and that subsequent media work will be rectified based on the truth system."

Li Miaomiao knew that this was undoubtedly a good thing for China.

With the rise of social media, traditional media have almost no way to survive.

A top-ten traditional media outlet in China only makes 100,000 yuan a month, less than a blogger with over a million followers. This phenomenon clearly demonstrates the bad driving out the good.
