Chapter 214 Fear

The little fox and his companions headed towards the south of the city. Although it was only a few miles away, they were ambushed along the way, mainly because of the desert worms. In the tunnels of this underground excavator, there was often a vanguard of demonic insects, with the split-toothed worms as the main force, lying in wait and attacking when creatures passed by.

Unfortunately, with the little fox in charge and the supplies containing magical items for scouting underground, Xiao Han was enveloped in a ball of blazing fire. Together with the Black Crow, Blood Crow, and other high-level combat forces, they were all blown away in one go.

But when they passed a street, Xiao Han and the other city management officers suddenly froze.

At the entrance, there is an abandoned little fox signpost, stained with mottled blood, with a piece of the demonic insect's body hanging from it.

This street is a well-known area (a haven for little foxes), and it's also surrounded by many pioneers and newly established shops. Before dusk, it's a popular spot for young people. After a day's work, they'll buy ice cream from cosplaying girls in uniforms, or choose a famous restaurant, have a glass of chilled wine, eat crispy chicken, enjoy fresh and delicious fruit, listen to the bar owner's harmonica, and chat with their friends, creating a joyful atmosphere.

Warm, relaxed, rough, and bold.

Survival in Titan City is that simple. Even mercenaries, though sometimes feeling the pressure, are still able to live strong lives after reaching a certain rank. Rewards, housing, wives and children, and parents are the goals that keep them going.

However……

The demons invaded, twilight began, and all the hard work and effort came to an end.

The once bustling and familiar streets are now lifeless, replaced by desolation and silence. The mangled limbs of demonic insects and the black blood have tainted this once pristine and clean sacred place.

During the first wave of the demon invasion, desert worms appeared in terrifying numbers, opening up passages and bypassing the defenses to lurk in the shadows.

If thousands of demonic insects gather underground, coupled with the demonic forces defending the front lines, the defenders will inevitably find themselves in a dangerous situation of being attacked from both sides.

The general commanding the demons (who may exist) devised a strategy in advance to specifically counter Francis's protracted tactics, sending chills down one's spine.

While they were resisting the first wave of attacks, underground, a complete tunnel had already been opened up, mainly for attacking transport convoys, or... infiltrating the southern city!

With a massive army pressing in, individual strength remains insignificant before embarking on the path to gold; this is not something that even the strongest silver-level warriors can handle!

Xiao Han fell silent. His mind raced, and from the first day he entered Titan City until now, some details had subtly revealed the invasion of the demon race.

Why did skeletons and other monsters emerge from the destroyed cemetery? Why did the necromancer bring out a high-class cross-patterned coffin, insisting on sleeping in the cemetery even in death? The bone ring faintly carries the power of a vengeful spirit, and there are still traces of the blood sacrifice ritual. Brian slaughtered a group of clergy...

According to the information from the magical letter, the demons have seized the initiative and are undoubtedly plotting a blood sacrifice ritual. The tens of thousands of residents in the city, who possess abundant blood energy and spirituality, are very likely to be targeted.

Based on the history of demon invasions, once the blood sacrifice is successful and the demon god is pleased, the demon god's phantom will descend to the world, and the pure will will give birth to the demon king as the ruler, who will then take control of a territory.

...

"Bang!"

A line of carriages sped along the spacious road, with a dozen or so archers standing on each carriage, retreating along the defensive line while shooting at the demonic insects.

The walls, stained with black blood, had veins that intertwined like thorns, and the dark blood flowed like glue, lurking a chilling danger.

"call out!"

The white bird spread its wings, its sharp feathers slaying the leaping fanged insects. The crossbow bolts, imbued with magical runes, were extremely effective against the demonic insects. However, to the archers' horror and anger, the demonic insects continued to swarm. On the walls where blood and water mingled, pale gray severed hands emerged, clad in tattered armor. These were their patrol comrades, dragged in by these pale, ghostly hands, their heads gnawed off, blood gushing forth and filling the eerie city walls.

"Damn it! These filthy reptiles."

A young crossbowman roared, his eyes blazing with fury as he stared at the army of demonic insects surging in like a black tide, his whole body trembling with rage.

The demonic insects are easy to kill, but their sheer numbers are a major headache. Often, after killing one demonic insect, a second one has already crawled out of the wall where flesh and blood intertwine.

Once they were killed in battle, their bodies were overwhelmed by the swarm of insects, their blood, tendons, flesh, and bones were devoured, leaving no trace of their remains.

"Calling headquarters, this is the third patrol team. An anomaly has occurred in the South City. To reiterate, a large number of demonic insects have rioted and are gathering in the South City. Requesting backup!"

The archers, led by the carriage, once again fired a distress signal into the sky, and wrote another magical letter, infusing it with the little magical energy they had left.

Immediately, the blood-stained letter flapped its wings and flew away amidst the clenched teeth of its companions.

The group remained in the carriage as two fine horses galloped swiftly past, the streets on either side flashing by. However, the demonic insects launched a fierce attack, their six-lobed fangs wide open, relentlessly pursuing them from behind, coalescing into a black tide.

The gruesome scene brought unimaginable psychological pressure to everyone, but the anger in their hearts overwhelmed the fear of death.

"Captain, why isn't there any support?!"

Finally, one of the teammates couldn't hold back any longer and asked the veteran captain directly.

"Yes, Captain... The distress signal has been sent out for so long, and we haven't received any support yet. Could it be that Lady Minise has abandoned us?!"

The previously irritable young crossbowman roared in anger, and a bolt pierced the vulnerable abdomen of a shield beetle. When he reached for his quiver, he realized that the bolt he had just fired was the last one.
