Chapter 104 A Tree

Fortunately, they didn't dare to kill me outright.

Xi Yang was full of energy.

He's officially listed in the higher-ups, and the relationship between Apollo and Dawn is a bit tense right now. If something happens to him, even if Apollo is the sponsor of the plan, they probably won't fare well.

He used to be practically invisible in the team.

Since meeting Qin Tan, he has received more attention in the past few days than he has in his entire life.

But he really liked that feeling.

He was fed up with the feeling of being a subservient mouse all day long.

Even if you have to die in the end, you should die a glorious death.

The vehicle bumped along, but everyone chatted and laughed.

As night approached, they arrived near the wall, intending to set up camp there and spend the night there.

As night fell, Qin Tan stood atop the wall, gazing at the desolate and profound darkness.

This was the first time she had ever seen the world from this perspective.

Looking out, the sky and earth merge into one, yet both are shrouded in darkness.

Where the naked eye can see, the dense darkness is like a man-eating beast, unlike the brilliant lights behind.

As the autumn wind blew, Qin Tan leaned against the wall, unleashing her senses.

Deathly silence seemed to be the only dominant theme in this world.

Not far away, the others were also gazing at the boundless night and sighing.

The night was extremely long.

When the first rays of sunlight fall upon the world, and you climb to a high place, what you see is a vast expanse of sky and earth that sweeps across your vision.

The narrowness of the night vanished in the magnificent sunrise.

As far as the eye could see, it was a vast area that the Federation's humans had never fully explored.

When the morning light stretches for thousands of miles, the sight is breathtaking.

Qin Tan's pupils contracted.

Compared to the outside, everything inside the walls was like a miniature walnut house, easily seen through at a glance.

"It's time to go."

Someone is shouting from below.

Qin Tan withdrew his gaze, picked up the princess, and walked downstairs.

In the lead car, Bai Yucheng was no longer dozing off; he began to sit in the passenger seat and give orders.

Their main purpose in going out this time was to find another human survival base.

The address they gave me when I contacted them was very vague.

Times have changed, and many places have changed; they need to compare and find them themselves.

Fortunately, the route for the first part still overlapped with the map in Bai Yucheng's mind, so there was no need to worry about getting lost as soon as they set off.

"Yes, that's the direction."

Bai Yucheng had his legs propped up in front of him, leaning against the seat, seemingly enjoying himself.

Behind him, Xi Yang craned his neck, trying to imprint everything he saw into his mind.

The map that forms in his mind will be the most valuable data for future human exploration of the world beyond the wall.

Qin Tan held the steering wheel with one hand, his gaze fixed intently on the road ahead.

"I have a feeling you're thinking about something I don't know."

Bai Yucheng suddenly moved closer to Qin Tan.

They were so close, they almost kissed Qin Tan, but there wasn't even a hint of ambiguity in his eyes.

He was examining Qin Tan.

Having known Qin Tan for so long, he tried his best to analyze her, but found that he could never truly understand her.

It's hazy and indistinct, as if separated by a veil, or perhaps by another world.

"You don't know because I can't let you know."

Qin Tan's occasional ramblings made Bai Yucheng chuckle, and he sat back down.

Sometimes, I feel like you don't belong to this world.

"There are very few human emotions."

Bai Yucheng muttered to himself.

"But you're right, everyone has their own secrets, and so do I."

He was also looking ahead.

"If you follow this road forward, it will take about a day to reach the place where the white figure appeared."

“Since we’re going to take this route again, you need to be prepared. No one should be out of sight.”

Having learned his lesson the hard way, Bai Yucheng offered this reminder.

Now, everyone calls that white figure the "White Ghost".

"But the white ghost can't be dealt with when it's in shadow form; the only thing to do is let it follow you."

“A single mistake during this process could allow those White Ghosts to infiltrate by impersonating one of us.”

"What should we do?"

Xi Yang was filled with worry.

They don't have a good way to deal with those white ghosts for the time being.

Only when the White Ghosts become "humans" can they be eliminated in the same way as murderers.

One wrong move and one of them could be replaced.

The thought of sharing a tent with a monster in the future sent chills down Xi Yang's spine.

"Big-headed bespectacled guy, you should worry about this, after all, you're the least capable fighter among us."

Bai Yucheng twisted his head and made a face to scare Xi Yang, making Xi Yang stare wide-eyed but unable to refute him.

"It's okay, I'll stick with you no matter what."

"I'll take you with me even if I die."

He retorted, and Bai Yucheng scoffed.

"Aren't you afraid I'll hit you first? I'm not a good person, Glasses Guy."

The two of them went back and forth, creating quite a lively scene.

Qin Tan, who was driving, remained quiet, looking at the undulating road ahead.

Some books in the school contain remnants of old photographs.

In those photos, there are skyscrapers and bustling traffic; they live in an absolutely free world.

That world has no walls.

In less than a century, some of the buildings outside the wall seem to have changed.

Everywhere there were ruins and deep cracks, like a sharp sword tearing the city apart.

Various mutated plants grow from the remnants of reinforced concrete, and in the depths of autumn, what one sees is not the golden hue of the setting sun, but vibrant colors.
