"Yaoxia!" Before Ye Yan could even experience what freefall felt like, he saw Zhou Yaoxia's figure appear above him. Thanks to her skill, she was falling faster than him, and her hand was desperately reaching out to him.
Ye Yan quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her into his arms.
After exchanging glances, the two seized the opportunity to launch their grappling hooks, grabbing a foothold on the cliff and stopping their fall, hanging precariously on the precipice.
The Flying Claw is a gadget invented by Han Lie. It looks small and exquisite. When worn on the wrist, pressing the button below will launch a grappling hook about the width of a palm.
"Why did you come down here too?" Ye Yan's voice was somewhat serious, not thinking that Zhou Yaoxia's actions were the right choice.
"I didn't think much of it when I saw you jump down," Zhou Yaoxia said softly, nestled in his arms, her head bowed, like a child who had done something wrong.
Seeing her expression and knowing that she was doing this for his sake, Ye Yan didn't know what to say. He had always known her feelings for him.
"As the team leader, I still have to criticize you," Ye Yan said, looking at the other person's pouty and aggrieved expression. He lowered his voice and continued, "But personally, I'm very touched."
Hearing him say that, Zhou Yaoxia looked up at Ye Yan with surprise, but she didn't know if what he said meant the same thing as what she thought.
The girl's probing gaze made Ye Yan feel somewhat uncomfortable.
"I can sense something down there, and I want to go down and take a look." Not knowing what was down there, Ye Yan wanted to send Zhou Yaoxia up first. With their innate abilities, it would be easy for them to get up there.
Zhou Yaoxia naturally understood Ye Yan's meaning, shook her head and said, "I'll go with you."
Seeing the girl's stubborn gaze, Ye Yan finally relented: "Okay."
The two slowly moved down using the grappling hooks, and soon they found a stone platform below. On the opposite side of the platform was a cave in the stone wall, but between the two was still a bottomless abyss.
Upon landing on the stone platform, Zhou Yaoxia hugged Ye Yan tightly. Under Ye Yan's questioning gaze, her body trembled slightly, and her voice became shaky: "Captain, I'm afraid of heights, I'm scared."
Ye Yan believed this explanation. Although the team members were selected by screening out people with similar symptoms, anyone in their situation, let alone a girl like Zhou Yaoxia, would feel fear. She had already done very well.
Ye Yan held her waist tightly and patted her back gently, as if to comfort her.
Seeing his reaction, Zhou Yaoxia smiled contentedly in Ye Yan's arms.
The cave was about 900 feet away from the two of them, and it would be somewhat risky to use spiritual power to cross it and then use the Flying Claw.
Looking at the cave that seemed both far away and yet so close, neither of them was in a hurry; they were carefully considering their options.
'Have we missed something? This shouldn't be such a desperate situation.' Looking around, they found no other way out.
"Captain, look, isn't there a line of words on the cave wall?" Zhou Yaoxia pointed to the cave wall.
Ye Yan looked in the direction she was pointing and saw a line of words carved above the cave.
"Make the empty appear real, and the real appear empty; sincerity will bring results."
It is unknown what it was carved with, but its size is just right for a cultivator's eyesight to see.
Is sincerity enough to achieve anything?
Ye Yan walked towards the edge of the stone platform, looked down at the endless valley, and took a step out.
"Ye Yan!" Zhou Yaoxia saw Ye Yan's actions and wanted to reach out to stop him.
But they saw Ye Yan standing firmly in the air, as if he were standing on land rather than in the air.
Ye Yan turned to Zhou Yaoxia and said with a smile, "Looks like I guessed right."
Zhou Yaoxia walked to the edge of the stone platform and casually tossed aside the hairpin she had just taken off, only to see it fall into the darkness.
Zhou Yaoxia looked puzzled.
“Think of it as a path under your feet, and step onto it,” Ye Yan said.
Zhou Yaoxia prepared herself mentally, silently repeating "There is a path under your feet" as Ye Yan had said, and then took a step forward.
Sure enough, he stood firmly on the abyss.
Ye Yan took Zhou Yaoxia's hand and said gently, "If you're scared, just close your eyes and silently repeat the words in your mind. Leave the rest to me."
Zhou Yaoxia hadn't expected her words to have such an effect. She obediently nodded, closed her eyes, and followed Ye Yan.
And so, Ye Yan pulled Zhou Yaoxia toward the cave, and they arrived in no time.
Ye Yan estimated that the actual distance between the cave and the stone platform was only about 300 feet, but it looked farther away. In reality, he could get there using the flying grappling hook.
However, Zhou Yaoxia, who was standing to the side, seemed to think that the journey was a bit short and that they were walking so fast, and she pouted unhappily.
Ye Yan didn't notice her little movements. He just looked at the dark depths of the cave and wondered if he had come to the wrong place.
Remembering what was said above the cave, Ye Yan still led Zhou Yaoxia slowly inside.
Although it was pitch black, after getting used to it, you could still vaguely see the road ahead. Ye Yan protected Zhou Yaoxia behind him, not daring to relax his vigilance for a moment.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, the space ahead suddenly turned into a bright light, making it impossible for Ye Yan and Zhou Yaoxia to open their eyes.
"So beautiful!" When they opened their eyes, the two found themselves under a starry sky, with a white pillar of light in front of them and the stone path beneath their feet turning into a galaxy.
Ye Yan quickly turned around and found Zhou Yaoxia was still behind him, but the way back had disappeared, and there wasn't even a cave entrance left.
