Chapter 35: A Praiseworthy Assist

Su Miaomiao simply used official language to introduce Imperial Capital University to Ye Yan. After all, she would do her best to fulfill her promise.

Su Miaomiao answered Ye Yan's questions from time to time.

Hearing Su Miaomiao's calm tone, Ye Yan wasn't angry. After all, he was just completing the task assigned to him by his superiors, and he had also obtained the necessary information from Su Miaomiao, which was enough.

Moreover, in this short encounter, Ye Yan's opinion of the girl in front of him changed significantly.

For example, even though it was just a task assigned by Xie Wei, the girl didn't do it perfunctorily. She patiently answered my questions and truthfully told me what she didn't know.

Moreover, the girl seemed to be quite popular, as girls and boys kept coming up to greet her on the way, which speaks volumes.

Around noon, the girl even took me to the cafeteria and swiped my card for me even though I hadn't activated my campus code.

Ye Yan became somewhat interested in the girl sitting across from him eating. Xie Wei would surely be moved to tears if he knew.

"Xie Wei said you are a friend of his old friend. Are you familiar with Xie Wei? Who is Xie Wei's old friend?" Su Miaomiao asked Ye Yan.

"I'm not actually that familiar with him; he probably misunderstood." Ye Yan told Su Miaomiao about meeting Xie Wei at the banquet and that Xie Wei's old friend was Lin Qingying, but didn't mention anything else.

"Oh," Su Miaomiao replied and continued eating the food in her bowl, the food she ate mixed with her emotions.

When Su Miaomiao heard that Xie Wei's old friend was a girl, and that "Xie Wei would take special care of Ye Yan because he was her friend, and then look at how he treated her differently," she thought of how Xie Wei treated her differently, and felt inexplicably wronged.

Su Miaomiao finished her food, but found it tasteless. She then cleared away the dishes and said goodbye to Ye Yan.

Ye Yan wanted to add the girl as a friend so they could communicate more, but he sensed that she was inexplicably in a bad mood. Not knowing if it was his fault, Ye Yan didn't voice his thoughts.

Meanwhile, Xie Wei was still praising himself for his powerful assist while in the car.

'I believe the male and female leads are currently having a pleasant conversation and have already added each other as friends. With my help a few more times and Ye Yan showcasing his destiny as the chosen one, this fate is almost certain.' Xie Wei was already imagining the day when Ye Yan and Su Miaomiao would invite him to their wedding.

However, Xie Wei's claim of having an urgent matter to Su Miaomiao was not a lie; it simply meant that it wasn't as urgent as Su Miaomiao had imagined.

Xie Wei drove his Pagani Zonda to the parking lot of the city hall, parked the car, and went to the service desk to explain his purpose. The person there immediately made a phone call and asked Xie Wei to wait a moment.

A moment later, Mu Qingcheng's assistant came running out. In the early spring weather, her forehead was slightly sweaty because she had rushed out of the elevator. She bowed to Xie Wei and apologized.

Xie Wei smiled slightly, extended his hand in a gentlemanly manner, and said in a gesture of raising his hand, "It's alright, I didn't wait long. You should be careful when wearing high heels. There's no need to do this even if you're in a hurry."

The mayor's assistant observed Xie Wei's gentle and refined demeanor, unlike the other people who had come to discuss cooperation before. Those who genuinely wanted to discuss cooperation exchanged a few polite words and didn't mind the assistant's awkwardness, while those who admired Mu Qingcheng even instructed the assistant to lead the way quickly.

This made the assistant glance at Xie Wei a few more times. At the time, she thought Xie Wei's request to meet with Mu Qingcheng was because he wanted to pursue her. Now it seemed that someone like Xie Wei extending such an invitation must genuinely want to cooperate.

It seems this collaboration is almost certain. The mayor's assistant was genuinely happy for Mu Qingcheng.

The mayor's assistant led Xie Wei to Mu Qingcheng's office. The office was large, with a desk and a tea table, and some flower arrangements by the window. The office smelled very nice.

Mu Qingcheng was working on something at her desk, wearing a black low-cut shirt underneath a white suit jacket, a white A-line skirt, and flesh-colored stockings that hugged her legs. A pair of white and gold stilettos accentuated her long legs. Her hair was tied in a high ponytail, and she wore black gemstone earrings, giving her a capable and efficient look.

When Mu Qingcheng saw Xie Wei enter the office, she was slightly taken aback. She then stood up from her office chair and invited Xie Wei to sit down in the tea chair.

After Xie Wei sat down, Mu Qingcheng gestured for her assistant to leave, then sat down herself and began to brew tea.

Xie Wei looked at the familiar yet unfamiliar face before her, feeling a slight pang of emotion. Shifting her gaze, she saw a framed photo on the table, which Xie Wei guessed was a picture of her and her daughter.

You read that right. Everyone knows that Mu Qingcheng has a daughter who is in school and is of the same generation as Xie Wei.

However, there was no trace of time on Mu Qingcheng's face. Although Mu Qingcheng's exact age was unknown, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that she looked like Xie Wei's older sister just by looking at her face.

No one had ever seen a man with a husband-like status around Mu Qingcheng, leading everyone to speculate that she was a single mother. This was also the reason why so many people came to pursue her.

Mu Qingcheng placed the brewed tea in front of Xie Wei. Xie Wei snapped out of his reverie and habitually said thank you.

"Mayor Mu, this is good tea," Xie Wei said after taking a sip.

"Haha, if Mr. Xie likes them, I can also give some to him," Mu Qingcheng chuckled, covering her mouth as she replied politely.

"Let's talk about cooperation, Mayor Mu," Xie Wei said, placing his teacup on the tea table. His smile vanished instantly, replaced by a serious expression.

"Mr. Xie, this collaboration is of great importance to us."

"Everything we promised is written in the contract we sent you. If Mr. Xie has any other requests, we'll see if we can accept them," Mu Qingcheng said to Xie Wei in a serious tone.
