Chapter 115 Lotus Lanterns and Wishes

On a night with a full moon, a gentle breeze is just right.

In a small town in the Eastern Wilderness, a celebration is underway.

Small towns and celebrations like these are common in the Eastern Wilderness.

Ordinary people always like to do this, holding a celebration in spring, summer, autumn and winter, without knowing exactly what they are celebrating.

After all, these kinds of things are meant to happen.

Perhaps this is what it means to find joy in suffering.

Human strength is finite, and life is short, so we should enjoy ourselves while we can.

Wu Er, along with a group of junior brothers and sisters and Kun Wu, arrived at the venue of the celebration.

The celebration was held on the banks of a small river in the city, the very river that had been polluted.

However, after Wu Er cleaned it up, the filth in the river had been removed.

Now the entire river is no longer dark green and smelly, but crystal clear.

The gently flowing river is like a mirror, reflecting the bright moon and stars.

If you look towards the source of the river, the river and the night sky merge together, and at a glance, you can't tell which is the sky.

"So, did you get a good deal?"

Wu Er asked the people behind him a question, but what he really wanted to ask was Xiao Ming's purpose.

Since Xiao Mingmu went out in the evening, he had looked sullen and unhappy, showing no signs of wanting to go sightseeing.

Kunwu, who had been invited, looked at the scene before him and muttered softly, "This is what it's like to be human... Being human, even just being a mortal, is so interesting..."

The celebration consists of two main parts: vendors gathered along the riverbanks and performers on both sides of the river.

After walking together for a while, the group parted ways to see what they wanted to see.

Zhang Wu squatted by the river, gazing motionless at his reflection on the water. He quite liked the scenery and wanted to look at it a little longer.

Chen Ping mingled among the vendors, chatting with them from time to time, and practicing his bargaining skills so that he could spend less money the next time he went to the market to buy things.

Yan Zheng ran to the edge of a stage and stared blankly at the floats used for opera performances, lost in thought.

Wu Er and Kun Wu strolled around together. The two had similar interests and took similar routes.

You could say these two are quite similar and a good match.

As for Xiao Mingmu and Wo Ningyan, the two of them naturally followed Wu Er closely, as if afraid that their senior brother would suddenly disappear.

"Miss Kun, do you like watching plays?"

Wu Er pointed to a stage on the side and asked Kun Wu, who was with him, a question.

The two walked together without saying much, creating an awkward atmosphere, so Wu Er spoke first to ease the tension.

Before Kunwu could reply, Wo Ningyan spoke up, "I'd love to! Watching a play is wonderful! I love watching plays!"

After saying this, Wo Ningyan stretched out her hands and hugged Wu Er from behind, then a satisfied smile appeared on her face.

For her, being able to hug her senior brother like this was the greatest happiness.

Xiao Mingmu looked at his junior sister's behavior and couldn't help but curl his lips. He thought Wo Ningyan's behavior was childish.

Wu Er reached out and patted Wo Ningyan behind him, pulling her off his back, and then patted her head.

He said, "Alright, how old are you? You're still so clingy."

"Hmph." Wo Ningyan raised her chin. "How old? No matter how old I am, I'll stick to you!"

Wu Er looked helpless and patted his junior sister's head.

Kunwu looked around, and everything around her seemed new and exciting.

"Is this the celebration? This is my first time at an event like this, it's really lively."

"What? Is this Miss Kun's first time attending the celebration?"

Wu Er asked with a smile.

Kunwu didn't answer the question. Instead, he looked at a small stall nearby and asked, "What are they selling over there? I've never seen that before. What's that thing that looks like a zongzi?"

Wu Er followed Kun Wu's gaze and also saw the stall.

"Oh, that's something you only buy at celebrations; it's an offering they make to the heavens."

Wu Er explained.

Kunwu was still puzzled. "Sacrificial offerings? Sacrificial offerings for Lao Tian? Is that the kind of thing used to worship heaven and earth?"

Then, Kun Wu said, "When I was traveling, I saw that you humans used chicken, beef, and mutton to worship heaven and earth. How come it has become like this now?"

Upon hearing this, Wu Er pondered for a moment, and then understood.

He chuckled twice and said, "Those are things used by emperors and officials. How could ordinary people afford them? So they use this to worship heaven and earth and pray for the protection of the immortals."

"Pray to immortals?" Kun Wu snorted. "Only mortals think like that. We cultivators know the true face of those so-called immortals. They are just selfish and wicked people."

Well, Kunwu, who is usually quite talkative, seemed less articulate when this topic came up, indicating that this matter had truly angered her.

The atmosphere was a bit off, so Wu Er wanted to quickly change the subject. Just then, he turned to look at the Xiang River and saw lights flickering on the surface, with lotus lanterns floating on the water.

He said, "Miss Kun, let's go release a lotus lantern and make a wish. I've heard it's very effective."

"Lotus lanterns?" Kunwu also looked towards the river and saw the lotus lanterns floating on the water.

Girls all like this kind of thing, and Kunwu is no exception.

Therefore, she was more heroic than other women, but she was still just a woman.

“That thing is so beautiful,” Kunwu said.
