Chapter 82 Hu Si Offers Advice
Xue Han's use of the word "again" made Qiu Heng raise an eyebrow.
It seems that he was convinced she was injured when they met at the city gate.
"Why does Lord Xue ask that again?" The girl tilted her head, looking puzzled.
Xue Han stated bluntly, "I smelled blood on Miss Qiu Liu, just like that time..."
Qiu Liu is a person with secrets, and her frequent injuries compel him to investigate.
Qiu Heng had been forcing herself to stay alert and endure her shoulder injury since entering the palace. Now, being questioned by the "culprit" who injured her last night, she was hardly in a good mood.
"Does Lord Xue really want to know the reason?" She took a step closer to Xue Han.
Xue Han tensed up slightly.
I've never been this close to a woman before, except for the girl in front of me.
Although she is famous for making incense, she rarely uses it on herself. Yet today, she has a faint fragrance on her body, subtle and lingering.
It turned out to be a koi-shaped pendant—Xue Han lowered his eyes and noticed the pendant hanging from the girl's waist.
What a fat fish...
After the thought flashed through his mind, Xue Han suppressed the strange feeling in his heart and said with a normal expression, "Yes."
Qiu Heng smiled: "From what standpoint does Lord Xue want to know the reason? Is it out of concern as a friend, or out of the suspicion of the Imperial Envoy?"
Xue Han stared intently at the smiling girl and replied, "Both."
"Then it seems we must tell the truth." Qiu Heng lowered her eyes slightly and softened her voice, "Does Lord Xue not know that women experience this every month?"
Xue Han paused for a moment, but from Qiu Heng's reaction, he sensed that asking any further questions would be very bad.
He wisely suppressed his doubts and decided to find the answer himself.
As they spoke, the two arrived at the carriage.
"Lord Xue, please wait." Qiu Heng boarded the carriage, lifted the curtain, and waved to Xue Han.
Xue Han watched the carriage disappear into the distance before returning to the Imperial City Guard.
Hu Si happened to return as well and was called over by Xue Han.
"What are your orders, sir?"
"I have a question for you."
"Please speak, sir."
"The woman smelled of blood, but she wasn't injured. Why is that?"
Hu Si was stumped: "Sir, have you been tricked? What else could it be but an injury?"
Seeing Hu Si's matter-of-fact attitude, Xue Han felt that he had made a fool of himself.
Like him, Hu Si lost his mother at a young age and had no wife, so he probably didn't know as much as he did.
Seeing that Xue Han took this issue very seriously, Hu Si suggested, "I think the doctor definitely knows. Sir, aren't you quite familiar with Physician Xu? Why don't you go and ask him?"
Xue Han thought it was a good idea and immediately went out of the city to see Uncle Xu.
Upon seeing Xue Han, Xu Bo's beard bristled: "What, you're here again?"
"I have a question I'd like to ask Uncle Xu."
Uncle Xu held out his hand: "Give it to me."
Xue Han didn't react: "What?"
"Didn't you say you'd bring me more snacks? Where are the snacks?" Uncle Xu asked bluntly.
Xue Han was stunned.
Oh no, I forgot.
"Forgot?" Uncle Xu asked irritably.
I knew that brat was just trying to fool him when he said he'd bring some snacks.
Xue Han quickly tried to salvage the situation: "It's not that I forgot, it's just that the pastries I wanted to bring for Uncle Xu couldn't be bought at the pastry shop, so a friend made them at home. I came here on short notice today and didn't have time to prepare."
"Speak, what is it?" Uncle Xu was somewhat surprised when Xue Han mentioned that it was a friend's dessert.
This kid has friends to share snacks with now? That's rare.
"Why does a woman smell of blood even though she is uninjured?"
Uncle Xu's expression turned strange: "Are you sure she's not injured?"
Xue Han nodded.
Uncle Xu stared at the serious-looking boy, remaining silent for a long time.
"Uncle Xu?"
“That’s certainly true.” Uncle Xu smiled wickedly. “A woman’s menstrual blood begins to flow at the age of fourteen, and she can conceive.”
Menstruation—Xue Han felt as if struck by lightning, his face turning as red as a shrimp.
Uncle Xu smiled and said, "This is a natural thing, there's nothing to be embarrassed about."
Xue Han was not comforted.
He asked Qiu Liu twice!
"Uncle Xu, I have to go now, I'll come see you another day." Xue Han fled in a sorry state, still in a daze when he returned to the Imperial City Guard.
Hu Si suddenly appeared out of nowhere: "Sir, have you found out?"
Xue Han glanced at him, pointed to the door, and said, "Get out."
Hu Si was completely baffled. As he walked out, he muttered to himself, "Why is he getting angry when he didn't share what he found out?"
Xue Han picked up the book and covered his face with it. The scent of ink filled his nostrils, and he sighed softly.
Qiu Heng returned to the Yongqing Marquis's residence to see the old lady.
The old lady had been waiting anxiously, but when she saw that Qiuheng was alright, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Surprisingly, she didn't cause any trouble back.
"How did your chat with your eldest sister go?" the old lady asked after Qiu Heng sat down next to her.
"I didn't chat with my eldest sister for more than a few words before I went to see the Imperial Concubine."
The old lady's relaxed smile vanished, and her voice unconsciously rose: "You went to see the Imperial Concubine?"
Good heavens! The Imperial Concubine Yu is known for her unpredictable behavior. There was once a minister who lost his post because of a single word from her.
"What did the Imperial Concubine say?"
"She asked about the scented pendants and asked me to make her a pair."
"That's it?" The old lady's heart, which had been clenched with anxiety, relaxed.
"Then the Emperor arrived."
The old lady swayed: "You even saw the Emperor?"
Qiu Heng nodded: "Her Highness the Imperial Concubine suggested that I enter the palace's incense-making pavilion—"
The old lady clutched her chest: "And then?"
That restless brat, always fiddling with those lousy incense sticks, has now gotten herself into trouble!
That poisonous Consort Yu, no wonder people secretly call her a vile concubine!
The old lady cursed inwardly, her face turning ashen.
"His Majesty did not agree after I introduced myself."
The old lady first breathed a sigh of relief, then asked in confusion, "What's wrong with you identifying yourself?"
Upon hearing that it was a fallen noble family, they no longer needed to hold back.
"Your Majesty found my name familiar, so I said I was Qiu Liu, the one who filed a lawsuit against Han Wu's son."
The old lady closed her eyes and waved her hand: "Go back to your room and rest."
Let her have some peace and quiet.
"Granddaughter takes her leave."
After Qiuheng left, the old lady sighed to her trusted nanny, "What are we going to do with this girl?"
The trusted nanny smiled and said, "Although the Sixth Miss's actions are different from those of ordinary young ladies, the result is good, so please rest assured."
The old lady fell into deep thought: It seems so...
In the palace, an attendant asked Emperor Jingping which concubine he would be visiting that night.
Emperor Jingping opened his mouth to say "Imperial Consort," but for some reason a beautiful face flashed into his mind.
If the younger sister is like this, then the older sister must be no less so.
"Let's go with Qiu Meiren."
The eunuch thought he had misheard and cautiously confirmed, "Is it Consort Qiu from the Hibiscus Palace?"
In his memory, the Emperor had only favored Consort Qiu a few times when she first entered the palace, and then ignored her.
"Are there other concubines named Qiu in other palaces?"
"This servant will arrange it immediately."
The eunuch personally went to Furong Palace to inform Consort Qiu that Emperor Jingping would be coming that evening.
Even long after the eunuch left, Qiu Meiren was still in a daze.
"Congratulations, my beauty!" The palace servants gathered around, offering their congratulations.
Autumn Beauty slowly came to her senses and gave a cool smile.
"Go and get ready."
