Chapter 153: Deserted Ghost Village

"The Candle Dragon Jade is said to be a treasure of the Zhao family that is not passed on to others. It is usually owned by a woman in the Zhao family. After the woman gets married, she will give the jade to her husband...Silly girl, you should accept it. It is very useful to you. Even if you meet Huo Liang again in the future, he may not be able to beat you!" Su Xiaoniu instigated.

I couldn't stand Zhao Xi, and under Su Xiaoniu's constant instigation, I finally accepted the jade.

"I'll put it on you." Zhao Xi walked up to me and hung the Candle Dragon Jade around my neck with a red string. Then he smiled with satisfaction and said, "Look, it suits you very well."

But I felt a little heavy. If it was true as Su Xiaoniu said, then the original owner of this jade should be Zhao Xi's husband, Huo Liang. Now that this has happened, Zhao Xi gave this jade to me... How can I not be upset?

Forget it, this was Zhao Xi's kindness, and I couldn't let her down. I waved goodbye and said goodbye. Zhao Xi, tears in her eyes, walked me to the door and even wanted to drive me home, but I said no, let her go first. Zhao Xi had a thousand words to say, but in the end, she only said to me to be careful on the way and come back safely.

I smiled and nodded, and then I breathed a sigh of relief as I watched her drive away.

Before returning to Su Xiaoniu's hometown, I bought some supplies at the flower and bird market and the grocery store. Besides the usual yellow paper, incense, candles, salt, and rice wine, I also bought some blue-tailed golden lizard tails, which I'll use to make blue talismans. I've already tested the power of blue talisman paper; it's incredibly potent. It was with blue talismans that I made Huo Liang suffer a fate worse than death. Now I'm running low on blue talismans, so I need to stock up before heading to the ghost village.

I also got a new urn because the previous one was a bit broken. I sorted out Su Xiaoniu's ashes and placed them on the altar in her hometown. I burned three sticks of incense every morning and evening and paid my respects. I also took out some things I didn't need at the moment and put them in Su Xiaoniu's hometown.

Seeing me taking care of her ashes like a family member, Su Xiaoniu seemed touched. With a sour nose, she said, "Little virgin...since you've been so kind to me, I'll give you those two magical instruments. You should be able to control them now."

I was overjoyed and jumped up to ask what kind of magical instrument it was. Su Xiaoniu told me to go to the inner room, the one where she had slept before she died. There was always something eerie about that room. Even though I'd lived there for a long time, every time I passed by it, I felt a deep chill. And every time I tried to go in, Su Xiaoniu would stop me.

But this time, she didn't stop me and let me into her room. To my surprise, the room was very clean and tidy, the air was very fresh, and the window was open, with a small garden outside, which was filled with the fragrance of flowers all the time.

I gasped in astonishment. I live alone here, Su Xiaoniu is dead, and I never cleaned her room, so how could this room be so clean and tidy? It must be cleaned every day!

"The Yin-Yang Fairy has issued an order: anyone who trespasses into the incense chamber will be killed on the spot!"

A fierce, ethereal sound suddenly surged from all directions. The sound was terrifying, like a vast army crushing down on me...

I was so scared that I fell to the ground. I had never seen anything so terrifying before. I was terrified. Just when I was wondering what was going on, Su Xiaoniu suddenly took control of my body and shouted, "Shen Tu, Yu Lei, you must not be rude!"

Someone was heard saying in the void, "It turns out that the Yin-Yang Fairy has returned. We will take our leave."

"Wait a minute!" Su Xiaoniu said sternly, "Take out my Seven Star Sword and Bagua Mirror."

"Yes, sir!"

I saw two flashes of light before my eyes, and a sword with seven big stars engraved on the blade and a mirror shaped like the Bagua appeared in front of me.

After Su Xiaoniu reached out and took the two things, she said, "From now on, when you see this person, you will see this fairy. Remember?"

"yes!"

"Go down."

The same rolling sound as before rang in my ears again, but this time it was far away, and it didn't feel like it was crushing towards me like before. It was so scary!

Su Xiaoniu broke free from her control over me and teased me, "I really want to take a picture of you looking so timid now, and then show it to Xuanxuan. It turns out that the 'superman' in her mind is also so vulnerable!"

I rolled my eyes, stood up, and held the two magical instruments in my hands. Then I looked around the room again and asked in surprise, "Stop teasing me. Tell me, who were you talking to just now?"

Su Xiaoniu said lightly: "Door God."

Door gods? Damn! I'd only heard of them before. They seemed to be gate-guarding deities, shared by both Daoism and Han Chinese. People would affix their images to their doors to ward off evil spirits, protect the home, ensure safety, aid success, and bring good fortune. They were the most popular guardian deities among the Han Chinese. Taoism, inheriting this belief, incorporated door gods into its pantheon and enshrined them.

I looked around and saw, as expected, two statues of gods plastered on the wall by the door. They were tall, majestic, ferocious, and dressed in colorful armor. Their faces were dignified, their postures majestic, and from a distance they looked like villains. So, were these two "villains" the ones who had scared me so badly?

Su Xiaoniu said with a smile, "Yes, that's them. The one on the left door is called Shentu, and the one on the right door is called Yulei. They are the only door gods who still listen to me after my death. The reason I didn't let you in before was because I was afraid they would scare you. I thought you would be more capable and brave by now, but I didn't expect them to scare you after all. This room has been empty all the time, and they helped me clean it."
