Chapter 2: Possessed

Shit, are you trying to scare me?

I didn't believe him and said stubbornly, "Don't try to scare me. I'm an honest man, but I'm not someone you can easily bully. The contents are exactly as they are. Not a cent less. Stop trying to extort money from me!"

"You said I scared you?" The girl said angrily, "Tell me yourself, did you run into a hearse on the way here, and did you see the dead person?"

My mind exploded, and I froze for a moment. Blinking, I asked, "How did you know? Is it written on my face?"

"Yes, it's written on your face. It also says that if you don't get my things back before six in the morning of the seventh day from now, you will die." The girl said calmly, and then closed the door with a "bang".

This damn girl has quite a temper!

But then again, how did she know I'd hit the hearse? It must have been a coincidence, right? After all, the hearse was leaving from Tianhe Road. Perhaps the deceased was from this part of the city? If so, then the hearse's arrival tonight would have been a familiar sight for everyone in the area. And since I happened to be delivering a package, it's not impossible that I'd run into her.

She must have just made a wild guess. Thinking of this, I secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Back at the company's staff dormitory, I live in a small, over ten-square-meter room. Luckily, I'm the only one living there. Most employees go home or share with their girlfriends. Only someone as broke as me would live at the company. After all, the courier company's accommodation is free, so this saves me a lot of money.

After a night of tossing and turning, I fell asleep as soon as I landed on my bed. In my dream, I saw myself getting older, my muscles shrunken and dull, my eyes hollow and lifeless. I was startled, and I tried to scream, but no sound came out. It wasn't until my head slammed against the hard floor that I woke up with a start!

It turned out that my body was moving around while I was sleeping, and then I fell off the bed and woke me up. After waking up, I realized that it was just a nightmare. It was already dawn, and I had to continue delivering the package this morning, so I didn't take it to heart.

The next night, I dreamed of the nightmare from last night again, which scared me awake immediately. It was so fucking weird. Then I couldn’t fall asleep at all. I just held on until dawn, and then I went to deliver the express feeling sleepy.

On the third day, I felt like I hadn't eaten in a week. I was completely dazed... On the fourth day, I was so weak I couldn't even get out of bed. It was terrifying... This nightmare lasted for several days. I even went to the hospital for a checkup, but the doctor said I was fine and that a few days of rest would be enough. By the sixth night, when I had this nightmare, I couldn't sleep at all.

I got up and went to the bathroom to wash my face. After running the water, I was about to put my hand in the water when I was frightened to death again. The water in the basin was completely red, just like blood!

I rushed out of the office. It was already three in the morning, but the sky was still eerily dark. As I reached the office door, I saw the hearse that had crashed at the Tianhe intersection a few days ago. It passed by. The deceased, lying in the car, covered with a white sheet, sat up and waved at me.

I was so frightened that six of my seven spirits flew away, and I almost fainted. When I looked towards the roadside again, the hearse was gone, but my body and mind were exhausted and weak, as if I had aged decades overnight, and became as desolate as a candle in the wind.

My hands and my skin began to dry up, as if they were about to be dried up by the wind.

The nightmare I had been having at the same time these past few days actually happened!

I suppressed the fear in my heart and wondered, could this be a sign that appears before a person dies?

Suddenly, I suddenly remembered what the girl named Su Xiaomo said. That day she said that I would die in seven days unless I could find back the lost white ash-like dust for her.

Counting the time, it’s already the seventh day by early this morning!

Really, from that moment on, I was so scared I didn't know what to do. It was like I was possessed by a demon, and I saw that beautiful woman Su Xiaomo as my lifeline. I quickly drove my electric tricycle towards Tianhe Road, hoping to save my life before 6:00 in the morning.

Just like the first time I came here, the road was bumpy. Fortunately, with the experience from last time, I was able to handle the bumpy section of Tianhe Road quite well this time.

After nearly half an hour's journey, we first arrived at the river, the place where I had fallen off the bike last time. My original intention was, of course, to retrieve the white ash I had spilled.

But at the time, I was completely baffled. How could such white, ash-like dust still be there after six or seven days? Even if it hadn't been blown away by the wind, it would have been buried by the river.

I drove my electric three-wheeled vehicle to Su Xiaomo's house in a daze. Just as I was about to raise my hand to knock on the door and was still thinking about what to say, the door suddenly opened, which scared me.

As soon as she saw me, she said proudly, "I knew you would come, come in."

I was flattered and followed her into the room. Wow, it was my first time entering a girl's room, and a beautiful one at that, so I couldn't help but feel excited.

But what surprised me was that the furnishings inside were very simple and old, some of them were dusty, as if no one had used them for a long time. It was not as clean and tidy as I had imagined. There was only a faint fragrance lingering around my nose.

She asked me to sit for a while, but she went inside and did something unknown.

I looked around nervously, wondering what to say next. At this moment, Su Xiaomo's cold voice came over: "Did you find the thing?"

I shook my head and said no. Su Xiaomo seemed to have expected this. She came over with a cup of tea, placed it in front of me and said, "If you can't find it, then there's nothing we can do."

"Ms. Su, you must save me. I don't want to die yet!" I almost cried and begged her, and almost knelt down.

Su Xiaomo blinked her beautiful eyes and said, "Don't you believe me?"

I shook my head and said, "I believe... I believe everything!" After encountering such a thing, I already had half a foot in the coffin. If I didn't believe it, I would be a fucking idiot.

Seeing how cowardly I was, this damn girl actually burst out laughing: "You're such a weird person. You're not afraid of ghosts, but you're afraid of death."

I looked at her in confusion. What did she mean?

Then she didn't say anything else, but asked me to drink this cup of tea, saying that drinking this cup of tea would dispel the evil spirits in me. I drank it all without saying anything, "Now I really won't die, right?"

"Well, now you won't die."

After Su Xiaomo finished speaking, I was filled with excitement. Finally, I wasn't going to die! I felt like I was reborn a second time, and I jumped up from the stool. Sure enough, I felt much better than before, feeling so weak and frail. Even my dry skin was gradually recovering!

How magical! I was so excited. But before I could calm down, Su Xiaomo said something that changed my life.
