Chapter 23: Practicing Mediumship

I work at this express delivery company and have always done my job well. I don't think I've ever done anything to disrupt the company. I don't even know who the chairman is! But now, a fat guy just called and fired me. It was the decision of the directors above. How could the directors above pay so much attention to me, just a small employee?

Everyone knows that even if a small employee is fired, it is just a matter of a word from the leader manager. How could it possibly alarm the directors above?

What's more, although the fat guy often makes things difficult for me and uses me as a punching bag, he won't fire me. After all, if I'm no longer in the company, who can he take his anger out on?

But now, I was fired very decisively...

Combined with Huo Yan's incident, I immediately suspected that there seemed to be something wrong with the company's directors.

"You have no evidence right now, and don't spread rumors." Su Xiaoniu murmured, "I'm afraid the only way to get this evidence is through negotiations with Huo Yan."

Huo Yan only said at the time that "that person must pay a heavy price." The "that person" here is the only clue at present, but if you want to uncover it completely, you still have to find Huo Yan and ask her in person.

I frowned and said, "Negotiating with Huo Yan? At most, I can barely hear a sentence or two from Huo Yan. She's so unstable. Most of the time, facing Huo Yan is like being mute. Your senses other than your eyes are too weak. Asking you to listen would consume your energy. It's not worth it."

"My current cultivation level is only one-tenth of what it was in my prime. I can barely protect myself, and yet it's already quite difficult for you to occasionally hear and understand the language of Huo Yan, a high-level cocoon ghost. That being said, though..." Su Xiaoniu smiled mysteriously and said, "There is a way to allow you to communicate with ghosts without any obstacles."

I asked curiously, "What method?"

Su Xiaoniu said solemnly: "The art of mediumship!"

Psychic mediumship? What is that? I'm a bit confused, but the name sounds pretty cool.

Su Xiaoniu said calmly, "Since ancient times, there have been people who can connect the two worlds of yin and yang, traveling back and forth with ease. They possess the ability to communicate with gods, spirits, and ghosts. They are called 'mediums.' And mediumship is their basic skill."

Wow, this is so awesome! I definitely need to learn this!

I immediately asked Su Xiaoniu to teach me mediumship, but she told me to get some sleep first. But I couldn't sleep, so I barely made it until four or five in the morning. I couldn't bear it any longer, so I said, "I'm awake now, can you teach me mediumship now?"

"You're lying! You didn't sleep well all night, and you think I don't know?" Su Xiaoniu said to me angrily. I begged her shamelessly, but she couldn't stand me anymore, and finally taught me the mediumship.

Su Xiaoniu said that mediumship isn't something you can practice at any time. First, you need to find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Secondly, you need to be mentally alert and composed. You must be on an empty stomach whenever you practice. Su Xiaoniu's hometown is very quiet. At night, there's almost no sound, and even during the day, there's not much noise. It's perfect for mediumship practice, which is why Su Xiaoniu asked me to stay there.

To cultivate this mediumship, I skipped breakfast. Even though I didn't sleep well the previous night, my spirits and complexion were incredibly good. After completing the three pre-training steps, Su Xiaoniu instructed me to get a straw mat and sit cross-legged on it, facing south. I focused my mind, focused my thoughts, and closed my eyes, concentrating on the inspiration flowing through my body. Su Xiaoniu then explained the key secrets of mediumship to me.

I closed my eyes and began to practice mediumship according to Su Xiaoniu's secret method. Everything in front of my eyes was dark and I couldn't see anything.

A cool breeze blew behind me, making my scalp numb. I couldn't help but want to open my eyes, but Su Xiaoniu reminded me, "Don't blame me for not warning you. If you let your mind wander while practicing mediumship, you can easily go crazy. - Don't get scared just because you hear something approaching you, feel something strange swaying around you, or even suddenly see something dirty. Otherwise, you're doomed. If the situation I described occurs, you must restrain yourself as much as possible. Just pretend you didn't see or touch anything, and face it with a calm and fearless attitude. If the situation is urgent, you can be a little fierce and shout loudly, and the strange thing will naturally be scared away."

It would have been fine if Su Xiaoniu hadn't said anything, but now that she's said it, I'm feeling even more and more creepy. Shit, I've fought ghosts before, how could I possibly be afraid of these inexplicable things?

I forced myself to calm down and focus.

I don't know how long this state lasted, but suddenly I heard the clacking of footsteps behind me. Judging by the sound quality, it must have been a woman's high heels. The footsteps grew closer and louder, and soon, they stopped right beside me, as if they were standing right next to me. Frightened, my whole body was trembling. But no matter what, I didn't dare open my eyes, afraid that if I did, I would see something I shouldn't. Actually, I couldn't open my eyes at all!

But I couldn't concentrate at all. My mind was filled with questions: whose footsteps were these? Was there a woman wearing high heels next to me? As I was frantically thinking, I suddenly heard a cold breath, "hiss!" in my ear. In an instant, all the hairs on my body stood up. I almost jumped up and yelled "Help!" But before I could react, something tapped my shoulder...

Don't even mention it. I was so scared that I peed myself. My soul flew out of my body. My blood was flowing backwards, my muscles were twitching, and I couldn't even open my eyes. Just when I didn't know what to do, a warm current suddenly surged through my body. I felt my arm being pulled hard, and at the same time, I heard Su Xiaoniu's delicate cry: "Get back!"
