There was a loud bang, and Zhuang Xiaodie only felt a hit on the head, then was kicked back several steps, and then heard Shen Tu Hai groan and fall to the ground.
"Shentu Hai!"
"You know how to scream now? Why didn't you scream when you ran to my house?" The man rushed over and slapped Zhuang Xiaodie twice, then kicked her in the stomach. Zhuang Xiaodie fell backwards to the ground and subconsciously raised her hand to block. Wei Dahe glanced back at Shen Tuhai, probably to make sure she could still get up. This gap finally allowed Zhuang Xiaodie to see the man's face clearly - Wei Dahe!
Initially, she had been unsure, having mentioned this person to Shentu Hai only to trick her. But combined with the frequent "chance encounters" over the past few days and his current visit, all the scattered clues connected to form the answer—this person was Wei Dahe.
Wei Dahe swung the brick down again. Zhuang Xiaodie rolled to avoid it, and the brick hit the back of the sofa, sending up a thin layer of dust. Zhuang Xiaodie covered the side of her thigh, and as she rolled, the fruit knife in her pocket stuck in her thigh. Just as Wei Dahe caught up, she pulled out the fruit knife. Wei Dahe paused slightly, took a closer look at the knife, and sneered, "Is that all you're talking about?"
Despite his disdain, Wei Dahe was clearly cautious and didn't immediately attack. Zhuang Xiaodie took the opportunity to stand up and shouted, "Shen Tu Hai!" She quickly glanced in the girl's direction and called her name again. Shen Tu Hai's hands moved slightly, slowly reaching forward, trying to support himself.
It seems he is not dead yet. Zhuang Xiaodie breathed a sigh of relief, but afraid that Wei Dahe would notice, she immediately turned her gaze back to the man in front of her.
"Don't be afraid." Wei Dahe said, "You will go to accompany her later."
"I have no grudge against you, why are you following me?"
"Don't play dumb." Wei Dahe said coldly, "I know you saw it."
"--What?"
Without replying, Wei Dahe suddenly threw a brick at Zhuang Xiaodie. She couldn't dodge and was hit on the elbow. The pain was piercing, but she couldn't care less. Wei Dahe immediately rushed over to grab the knife. Zhuang Xiaodie swung the knife a few times, and Wei Dahe kicked at his hand. Zhuang Xiaodie suddenly turned her hand and brought the tip of the knife down, stabbing it right into Wei Dahe's calf. The knife was stuck in Zhuang Xiaodie's calf, and she didn't have time to pull it out. By the time she could grab it with her other hand, her leg had already fallen. Wei Dahe roared in anger and rushed towards Zhuang Xiaodie, grabbing her ankle and pulling her down, punching her head and face.
Zhuang Xiaodie blocked the blow with her arms and raised her knee to kick him in the lower body, but was dodged. Wei Dahe was about to choke her when she saw a chair leg pop up from his head. Before she could react, Wei Dahe's body suddenly shook violently and he tilted to the side. Then another person kicked him in the head, and another chair followed.
Wei Dahe's body was shaking, and he didn't even have time to see the woman who dealt him the final blow. He fell to the ground and was motionless. Shentu Hai felt that it was not enough, so he pulled out the knife from his calf and was about to stab him in the neck.
"Wait!" Zhuang Xiaodie had a bad feeling and immediately rushed over to stop Shentu Hai. The girl staggered, took a few steps back, and sat down on the ground, supporting her head, still looking drowsy.
Nian Jinsi threw the only remaining chair back in his hand to the ground and said lightly: "It's too late."
Zhuang Xiaodie leaned over to examine Wei Dahe's injuries, saying a bloody head was the least of his problems. She pressed two fingers against the side of his neck, but there was no pulse. Perhaps she hadn't pressed in the right spot, so she tried the other side, but still no pulse. Zhuang Xiaodie suddenly turned to look at Nian Jinsi, who hadn't moved, staring back at her silently.
It was Shentu Hai who spoke first: "How is he? Still alive, or dead?"
Zhuang Xiaodie suddenly stood up and took a few steps back. Nian Jinsi followed her with a calm gaze.
Her lips were as dry as a piece of paper, sticking to her teeth. Zhuang Xiaodie looked at Shentu Hai, then at Nian Jinsi, then back at each of them, and then she said, "Dead."
Shentu Hai let out a long, roaring sound, a roar of excitement, a cry of fulfillment.
Nian Jinsi said: "I was sleeping in my room at the time, and when I came out I saw this man beating you."
Zhuang Xiaodie rubbed her forehead and said nothing.
"What now?"
Shentu Hai answered excitedly: "Throw it into the river!"
"No!" said Zhuang Xiaodie.
Shentu Hai's excitement subsided a little: "Oh? Then where do you want to throw it?"
"Chop up the body and bury it?" Nian Jinsi said, "Or go get a stray dog."
"If the dogs don't eat him for two days, his body will start to stink," Zhuang Xiaodie said. "The refrigerator won't hold him. We can't leave him here."
"Where should I put it?"
Zhuang Xiaodie said nothing, avoiding their gazes, her eyes wandering over the floor. After the melee, the ground was in a mess. Then, she saw the key she had just dropped. Besides the key, there was another separate object that she had forgotten about.
——The keys to the hearse.
They had run two orders today, but the old man had to leave for something and asked her to park the car back where it was, so the car keys were not handed in. Zhuang Xiaodie almost crawled over, grabbed the car keys, and held them up to show Nian Jinsi.
"No matter what," Zhuang Xiaodie said, "we have to find something to wrap him up first."
"Then?" Shentu Hai asked.
"Cut it into the appropriate number of pieces," Zhuang Xiaodie said, "and then transport it away."
They looked at each other.
"Go find some sheets, large plastic bags, and bags." Zhuang Xiaodie said to Shentu Hai, then looked at Nian Jinsi, "What do you think?"
"Maybe it's a good idea."
At this time, a small pool of blood had gathered under Wei Dahao's head, and it would be troublesome to clean up if there was more.
Shentu Hai stood up and now seemed much more awake. Zhuang Xiaodie looked at her and asked, "Can you move?"
"It's okay." Shentu Hai said, "There's no bleeding."
"Are you dizzy?" Nian Jinsi asked.
"Much better." Shentu Hai leaned against the wall and slowly entered Zhuang Xiaodie's room. Nian Jinsi looked a little confused, but didn't ask. Two people pulled the sofa cover off Wei Dahai's head, then one lifted his shoulders and the other lifted his feet, carried him into the bathroom, and threw him on the floor.
"If I call the police—"
"Who do you think killed her?" Nian Jinsi asked, "Me or her?"
"No, I don't know." Zhuang Xiaodie shook her head. "You and her started fighting at about the same time." In fact, she had just fought with Wei Dahao, and her head was still buzzing. She was just trying to maintain her sanity and speak.
"Let me ask you this: do you think the police will only investigate what happened here?"
Zhuang Xiaodie was silent for a moment. Wei Dahe's face was uncovered. She looked back and forth between his hands and feet and asked, "What do you want to say?"
"Have you ever thought about what to do if the previous incident is brought up again?" Nian Jinsi asked, "Can we escape a second time?"
Nian Jinsi's words awoke Zhuang Xiaodie like a slap in the face. She looked over, and in a trance, she saw not her old friend, but her mother. Before her was a corpse, beside her was her mother. It was as if she were back at the funeral where she had been slapped by her mother.
Zhuang Xiaodie kicked Wei Dahai's hand away, washed her hands and face, and said, "Clean his fingernails and other parts of his body, and pack them separately." She picked the flesh between her nails, stood up straight, and looked at herself in the mirror. Her face was pale, but her expression was calm. "I'll drive over."
Nian Jinsi said, "If you don't come back within half an hour, I will call the police."
Zhuang Xiaodie turned her head and looked at her: "Whatever you want."
