Chapter 2 Lifeline

Chapter 2 Lifeline

"Ke'er, stop fussing. This is the only way to save our whole family."

Although Song Yi was anxious, she still explained something to her daughter.

Li Nanke looked up at her mother, her hand trembling slightly as she held her mother's.

In the dream, they were ultimately exiled because of this letter of appeal written by their mother.

The whole family regarded their aunt and uncle as their only lifeline.

Little did they know that their father had been framed for embezzlement, and the mastermind behind it all was their aunt and uncle. How could they possibly save their family?

My aunt always resented my mother. After being reborn and remarried, she was sent away to work with my uncle for several years.

My uncle was transferred back to the capital a few days ago, but he was only appointed as a fifth-rank censor in the Censorate.

In order for her husband to get a promotion, the aunt encouraged her uncle to report her father for embezzlement.

After receiving the letter pleading for help, Mengli's uncle immediately presented it to His Majesty.

The sentence in the letter, "If you can help me get off the hook, my whole family will reward you handsomely," was taken as irrefutable evidence that her father had bribed someone.

In a fit of rage, His Majesty issued an edict exiling the entire Marquis's household to Qianzhou.

Because of his act of putting family members before family, his uncle was promoted two ranks and transferred directly from the Censorate to the Ministry of Personnel.

She could no longer let her uncle rise through the ranks by stepping on the blood of her entire family.

So, to save the whole family, the first thing to do is to stop the mother from writing this letter for help.

Li Nanke pulled Song Yi's hand down forcefully, signaling her to bend over.

She tiptoed close to her mother's ear, pointed outside, and whispered, "Mother, do you think my dream has come true?"

Mrs. Song was taken aback and subconsciously looked outside following her daughter's small hand.

In the courtyard, Imperial Guards kept running back carrying boxes or ornaments.

In a short while, the courtyard was filled with the Marquis's belongings.

Her face paled as she recalled that before the Imperial Guards arrived, her daughter had been crying and pleading in her arms, saying she had dreamt that her home was about to be ransacked.

In the blink of an eye, their home was raided.

Li Nanke then whispered, "Mother, in my dream I saw my uncle hand over the letter you wrote pleading for help to His Majesty. In a fit of anger, His Majesty exiled our family."

My uncle has no intention of saving us, so this letter absolutely must not be written.

Song Yi trembled all over, and her face turned pale.

Holding Li Nanke's small hand, she hesitated.

"Could you be mistaken? Your aunt has always been very good to me since I was a child, and your uncle is also a kind and righteous person. Why wouldn't they save us?"

It wasn't that she didn't trust her daughter, but at the moment, asking her brother-in-law for help was her only hope.

Song Yi didn't want to give up.

Li Nanke saw that her mother no longer said the dream was fake, but only looked hesitant.

They then decided to further enhance the credibility of the dream.

“I dreamt of a very kind fairy grandmother. These are all things that the fairy grandmother told me. The fairy grandmother would not be wrong.”

Song Yi had always been a Buddhist, and upon hearing the name "Fairy Granny," she paused, her pen still.

Marquis Anping urged impatiently.

"Mr. Song, what are you dawdling for? Hurry up and write the letter!"

Song Yi hesitated, wondering whether she should tell her father-in-law about her daughter's dream of being guided by a fairy godmother.

Li Nanke spoke first.

"When my uncle came to our house a few days ago, he took a fancy to the calligraphy and paintings that my father treasured. My father refused to part with them, and my uncle was very angry when he left."

We're writing to ask for help now, but I'm afraid my uncle won't be willing to help."

"Besides, I believe that Father did not embezzle. Someone must have framed Father. We wrote a letter for help, which makes us seem guilty."

Seeing that her daughter didn't mention anything about the fairy godmother in her dream, Song Yi swallowed the matter herself.

It is Ke'er's good fortune to receive guidance from the fairy godmother.

Even immortals believe that heavenly secrets should not be revealed, so it's best not to talk about this.

Song Yi nodded in agreement with her daughter's words.

“Father-in-law, Ke’er is right.”

Marquis Anping frowned.

"It's just a painting or calligraphy. Your brother-in-law is a man of great talent and broad-mindedness. How could he be such a petty person?"

"If it could truly save our family, we'd give him not just one painting, but ten!"

"Also, don't say that someone framed that unfilial son. Why didn't they frame others, but specifically him?"

“Mr. Song, stop dawdling and write the letter quickly.”

Although Song Yi's voice was timid, she didn't move.

“Father-in-law, your daughter-in-law thinks Ke’er’s words make sense.”

Marquis Anping's thick eyebrows stood on end, and his face turned ashen.

"This is absurd! What does an eight-year-old girl know? With a knife hanging over her head, she should be thinking of a solution."

Regardless of whether your brother-in-law can help resolve the situation, writing a letter offers some hope. Are we just going to let the whole family sit here and wait to die?

"If you won't write this letter, I will."

"Move aside, don't stand here and get in the way."

Marquis Anping was impatient and used one hand to lift Li Nanke, who was standing next to the table, away.

Li Nanke slumped to the ground in a sorry state.

"Ke'er".

With a pale face, Mrs. Song bent down to help her daughter up.

"Did you hurt yourself?"

Li Nanke obediently shook his head, seeing that Marquis Anping had already picked up his pen and started writing quickly.

My grandfather was impatient and stubborn; once he made up his mind, no one could persuade him otherwise.

If this letter is actually sent out, Father's guilt will be fully confirmed.

Seeing that Marquis Anping had finished writing the letter, put it in his bosom, and walked towards the back window, intending to sneak out through the back window to find someone to deliver the letter.

Li Nanke's eyes darted around, and she cupped her small hands together in front of her mouth.

He took a deep breath, and a crisp sound echoed throughout the side hall.

"Grandfather, there's no one guarding the back window, run!"

A guard from the Imperial Guards at the entrance of the side hall strode in, brandishing his sword, and roared at Marquis Anping, who had half a leg already climbing onto the window frame.

"What are you doing? Behave yourself."

"Send a few more men to guard the back window."

The only way to call for help has been blocked.

Marquis Anping retreated with a gloomy face and kicked Li Nanke hard.

"You brat."

Li Nanke seemed to have been prepared, and with a quick step back, she slipped behind the imperial guard.

She clutched the other person's clothes tightly with her little hands, pretending to be terrified.

"Uncle, save me!"

The Imperial Guard, who had a full beard, frowned slightly upon hearing this.

He looked down at the little girl beside him.

The little girl was only up to his waist, with fair and delicate skin, and round eyes as clear and bright as grapes.

She's so cute, it's a pity she's mentally challenged.

Marquis Anping clearly intended to run out for help, but his foolish granddaughter's shout gave him away.

The bearded man sighed, held his sword horizontally forward, and forced Marquis Anping to retreat.

"Sit still and behave yourself. If you make any more noise, don't blame me for being impolite."

Marquis Anping glared at Li Nanke resentfully.

“You brat, if the whole family suffers because of your father and you, I’ll be the first to beat you to death.”

Li Nanke secretly rolled her eyes in her mind, not taking her grandfather's scolding to heart at all.

Grandfather never liked Father or her.

As long as we don't write to my uncle for help, there's definitely room for maneuver in my father's situation.

Seeing the bearded imperial guards standing at the door, she quickly ran to Song Yi's side.

Song Yi looked terrified, and tears kept flowing.

The only way she could think of to call for help was no longer an option, and she was now filled with panic.

Upon seeing her daughter, her eyes lit up, and she pulled her into her arms, eagerly asking questions.

"Quickly tell your mother, did the fairy godmother give you any guidance on how to save the whole family?"

In the dream, the whole family was exiled, and naturally, there was no way to save them.

She dared not tell her mother these things.

My mother has always been timid; I'm afraid she'll faint from fright.

But it's not like there's no chance of saving them.

Li Nanke's eyes darted around, looking at the vermilion sedan chair parked in the courtyard.
