Chapter 290 What did you discover?
Bai San Niang was stunned for a moment, but quickly realized what was happening.
“I have seen you before, at the temple fair at Xiangguo Temple.”
Li Nanke smiled slightly, revealing two small dimples.
“If Madam remembers correctly, we did meet at the Xiangguo Temple Fair. I am Li Nanke.”
Bai San Niang's eyes flickered slightly.
She had overheard most of what was happening next door and already knew Li Nanke's identity.
An eight or nine-year-old girl could be personally granted the title of county princess by the emperor, which shows that she was definitely not a simple child.
Bai San Niang glanced at Li Nan Ke indifferently, then walked to a pile of straw in the corner and sat down casually.
"You and I... I don't think we have anything to talk about. Why do you want to see me?"
Li Nanke walked straight to the opposite side and sat cross-legged in front of Bai Sanniang.
Her two small hands hung casually on her knees, her bright eyes looking at Bai San Niang, showing no sign of backing down because of her words.
Instead, he went straight to the point: "I should hate you, after all, you're the one who caused my grandmother so much pain over the years."
Bai San Niang curled her lip, unconvinced.
"That's because your grandmother was useless and couldn't hold onto a man's heart. What does that have to do with me?"
Li Nanke puffed out her cheeks angrily.
"I'm not here today to discuss right and wrong, or to analyze whose responsibility it is."
"Then what are you here for? Just to tell me you hate me? Your whole family hates me? Ha, do you think I care?"
Li Nanke shook his head, rested one hand on his knee, propped his chin up, and looked on with curiosity.
"I just wanted to take a good look at you and be curious about how a mother could bear to abandon her newborn child."
You don't really care about Li Yao at all, do you?
Bai San Niang's expression changed slightly.
"What do you know, you little brat? I had no choice but to abandon Yao'er back then."
Li Nanke mimicked her earlier behavior, dismissing it as insignificant.
"No matter what the reason, you've abandoned the child. You haven't been by Li Yao's side all these years."
You don't understand him at all. Do you really think he's genuinely accepting you?
Just now next door, he knelt down, crying and begging my father, confessing that if he were saved, he would treat my grandmother as his own mother from now on.
Li Nanke's crisp voice echoed throughout the cell.
"When he pleaded for you, he didn't consider you, his own mother, at all."
She made a face at Bai San Niang and mocked, "You've ignored him for over twenty years, and then suddenly you appear. Why do you think he'd wholeheartedly acknowledge you?"
Bai San Niang's pupils contracted slightly, and her breathing became a little more rapid.
She blurted out, "Who said I don't care about him anymore? I clearly do every year..."
Bai San Niang paused mid-sentence, squinting as she sized up Li Nan Ke.
He then sneered, "You little brat, so you were trying to trick me? I almost fell for your trick."
Li Nanke blinked.
"Didn't we already get the information out of you? You were just trying to say that you contact Li Yongfeng every year, right?"
Bai San Niang hadn't expected Li Nan Ke to be so perceptive. She had only said the two words "every year," yet Li Nan Ke had guessed what came after.
She scoffed, "So what if you know? Do you think you can rest easy just because you've brought us here?"
"Ha, you're just lucky you didn't get blown up by the fireworks. Otherwise, how could a little girl like you be so smug in front of me?"
Li Nanke spread his two little hands.
"Oh well, there's nothing we can do about being lucky. Come back and show off in front of us when you're just as lucky."
"you....."
Bai San Niang's chest trembled with anger, seemingly not expecting that a mere maid like Li Nan Ke could speak so infuriatingly.
How could Li Yongfeng have such a granddaughter?
"I don't stoop to the level of a little girl like you."
Bai San Niang glared at her coldly, then turned to face the wall, no longer looking at Li Nan Ke.
Li Nanke wasn't angry. He got up, brushed off the straw clinging to his clothes, and walked away with a smile.
Li Mu had been peeking around at the dungeon entrance, and when he saw her come out safely, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
He originally wanted to go in with her, but Li Nanke wouldn't let him.
"You're finally out. She didn't do anything to you, did she?"
Li Mu looked his daughter up and down, his eyes full of concern.
Li Nanke shook his head.
"She's chained up, she can't hurt me."
"Father, let's go home."
Li Mu was relieved and thanked the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review before taking his leave.
As I stepped out of Dali Temple, the moon was hidden behind thick clouds, and snowflakes began to fall outside, accompanied by a cold wind that seeped into my neck.
Li Mu, with his neck tucked in, helped Li Nanke put on her hood and then lifted her into the carriage.
Once the car door was closed, the cold wind outside was shut out.
Li Mu then asked curiously, "Girl, what did you ask that Bai woman? Why did it take you so long to come out?"
Li Nanke didn't answer but asked a question instead.
"Father, did you notice anything amiss just now?"
"Something's not right? Where?"
Li Mu looked completely bewildered.
Li Nanke thought for a moment and then changed his wording.
"Father, do you think Li Yongfeng is a coward who fears death?"
Li Mu thought for a moment and nodded.
"Yes! If he weren't afraid of death, he should have rushed to his beloved without hesitation back then, even if it meant starving himself or jumping off a cliff."
He wouldn't have meekly submitted to marrying your grandmother and then pushed all the responsibility onto her.
Ultimately, he was a cowardly and selfish person.
Li Nanke wholeheartedly agreed with his father's words.
"If he is so afraid of death, why wasn't he afraid when His Majesty sentenced him to beheading? And why did he still have the energy to argue with Father?"
Li Mu opened his mouth wide in surprise, stood there stunned for a moment, and then suddenly clapped his hands together.
"Yes, Ke'er, I didn't think there was a problem until you said it. He was sentenced to beheading and could lose his head at any time. Given his personality, he should be terrified right now."
Yes, just like Li Yao, who has no interest in anything around him and only wants to grasp at a straw to survive.
"That's more like someone who's about to die. Li Yongfeng was like..."
Li Nanke's interface.
"It's as if he was certain he wouldn't die, which is why he was in the mood to argue with his father!"
So I thought I'd go check out the Bai family and test the waters.
Li Mu thought about it carefully, and the more he thought about it, the more he felt that Li Nanke made sense.
"What were the results of the test? What did you discover?"
Li Nanke: "Bai Shi doesn't seem worried about Li Yongfeng and Li Yao at all."
Li Mu's eyes widened.
"One is her old..."
He originally wanted to say "old flame," but then felt that he shouldn't say those three words in front of his own daughter.
She changed the subject slightly and continued, "An old acquaintance, and Li Yao is her biological son, yet she isn't worried at all."
Either she had no feelings for them at all, or she was certain they wouldn't die.
Li Mu drew a conclusion.
