Chapter 1: Picking Up a Pure, Socially Anxious Girl

That's what life is all about...

Although I don't have a girlfriend, I'm penniless, and my parents are always arguing, at least I have a few roommates who I can often get together to play games, eat skewers and drink, sing karaoke, and have heart-to-heart talks on the rooftop.

But in this world, those without strength are simply seen as a burden.

Lin Nai was really fed up with the way her classmates looked at her.

Direct mockery is relatively rare; most people just look at you with disgust or give you a cold shoulder. More cultured people will look at you with sympathy, but will still deliberately keep their distance, because what if they become too familiar and then get stuck with you when you need to team up for a mission?

It's late at night.

After finishing his fried noodles and paying, Lin Nai bought a hand-pulled pancake from a roadside vendor and prepared to return to his small home.

He did not live in the school dormitory.

Anyway, even if he lived in the dormitory, he would be ostracized and could only lie quietly by himself. It would be more comfortable to live alone at home.

It's raining.

The rain gradually intensified, but thankfully we had already reached the bottom of our building.

Lin Nai stomped through the puddles and ran quickly to the eaves of the building in the community, brushing the raindrops off her hair.

"Um?"

Lin Nai was about to go upstairs when he suddenly saw a figure sitting under the eaves at the entrance of the stairwell.

She was a girl of about seventeen or eighteen years old, who looked about the same age as him. Her wet hair was draped over her shoulders, with a few strands of wet hair sticking to her fair cheeks. She was wearing a very thin white dress that clung to her delicate skin, revealing glimpses of her flesh. She had her arms wrapped around her fair legs, with half of her face buried between her knees. She was curled up in the corner of the stairwell, looking as if she was taking shelter from the rain.

As Linna looked at her, the girl also raised her head.

It was a face capable of bringing ruin to a country, gentle and pure, breathtakingly beautiful.

Lin Nai's heart skipped a beat.

Why is there a girl sitting here taking shelter from the rain so late?

Linna noticed the girl's right shoulder at that moment.

There was a glaring bright red stain and a gaping, bright red wound, which clashed sharply with the fair and smooth skin of her shoulder.

Are you injured...?

It looks like the scratches of some kind of monster.

In this era, getting injured is all too common.

Venturing into other realms is a dangerous undertaking. Even entering through a portal requires a team and is fraught with peril.

However, after returning from a mission, the school usually arranges centralized treatment.

She looks quite young; she should be a student, right?

Could it be that he didn't get into university...?

That's even worse than what I've experienced.

Lin Nai looked at the girl for less than a second before immediately looking away.

Although Lin Nai had lived two lives, he actually didn't have much experience interacting with girls.

In his previous life, he never had a girlfriend.

In this life, not to mention, I don't even have a single friend.

I started walking up the stairs.

After taking a few steps, Lin Nai suddenly stopped. After hesitating for a while, he turned back and stood in front of the girl in the white dress: "Hey, um..."

The girl looked up at him with a bewildered expression, her obsidian-like clear pupils appearing bright and innocent in the darkness.

Realizing that Lin Nai was speaking to her, the girl patted her skirt, stood up from the ground, and awkwardly bowed slightly to Lin Nai: "You... hello..."

Linna was stunned.

He's quite polite, isn't he?

Lin Nai was silent for a moment, then asked, "Um...where do you live? Or, which school do you go to?"

"It's raining quite heavily, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. Shall I go get an umbrella and take you home?"

“Home…” The girl paused, then shook her head gently without speaking.

What does shaking your head mean?

Linnaeus was puzzled.

Is your home not here, or do you simply not remember?

"You seem to be injured. Did you just come back from exploring another realm?"

Lin Nai hesitated for a moment, then pointed upstairs and said, "My home is upstairs. If you have nowhere to go... would you like to sit upstairs for a while? I'll get you some medicine, and we can leave when the rain stops."

The girl seemed a bit naive; it took her a while to realize what Lin Nai was saying, and she quickly replied, her cheeks slightly flushed, "Ah... thank you..."

Lin Nai looked at the girl suspiciously, feeling that there was something strange about her.

What a beautiful girl! How come she has a stutter at such a young age?

And he seems a bit dull and silly...

Or is it just simple social anxiety?

Lin Nai went upstairs, unlocked her own security door with her key, and went inside. She saw the girl still standing outside the door with a silly look on her face.

"Come on, come inside with me."

The girl nodded blankly and followed Lin Nai inside.

It was only then that Lin Nai realized that the girl wasn't even wearing shoes; her two small, white feet were bare on the ground.

Lin Nai didn't mind that she had come in through dirty rainwater and gave her a towel.

"Look, you're all wet, go dry yourself off first."

The girl didn't take the towel; her eyes were fixed on Lin Nai's other hand.

Lin Nai looked at it with a puzzled expression.

It turned out she was looking at the bag of scallion pancakes she was carrying in her left hand...

"Gurgle...gurgle..."

The girl's stomach rumbled.

It seems she's been hungry for quite a while.

The girl blushed instantly, lowered her head, and murmured in a voice barely audible, "I...I'm sorry..."

Linnaeus was both amused and exasperated.

Could this girl have come back with him because of the scallion pancake in her hand?

"Are you hungry? Okay, but you have to clean yourself up before you eat, or you'll catch a cold."

However, after saying that, Lin Nai realized that the girl should also be a superhuman. Even though she was injured, she didn't seem to be greatly affected, so her physique shouldn't be too weak.

So he shook his head, handed the towel to the girl, and placed the scallion pancake on the table beside him: "You wipe yourself first, and then you can eat. I'll go get you some clean clothes and some medicine for your wounds."

Lin Nai walked towards the room, but turned back at the door and asked, "By the way, what's your name?"

The girl slowly raised her head and met his gaze: "Night."

The sound is delicate and soft, like a wind chime swaying in the breeze on a summer night.
