Chapter 166 The Strange Townspeople

Tiger and his gang were completely unaware of the strangeness of the town. They happily entered the town, proudly raising their heads like victorious roosters.

However, once they entered the town and stepped onto the main street, they were completely stunned.

The bustling town streets were filled with vendors selling their wares and passersby dressed in ancient costumes.

"Tiger...Brother Tiger, where is this?"

One student asked, dumbfounded.

"What's going on..." Hu Xiong frowned and opened his system map panel.

The location shown on the map is correct.

We were just a hair's breadth away from the finish line.

But how did this place suddenly become like this?

Where did these people dressed in ancient clothing come from?

Hu Xiong was completely bewildered.

He even subconsciously thought that he had come to a street where ancient costume cosplay was held.

But then I realized it was impossible.

The mountains and forests in the suburbs of Yecheng have been completely sealed off and a barrier has been set up because of the National Freshman Competition, so ordinary people can't get in at all.

How could anyone possibly be holding a period costume cosplay gathering here?

By this time, the sun had already set.

The last trace of the blood-red sunset on the distant mountaintop has been swallowed up by the mountain.

The town had absolutely no modern facilities, and as soon as night fell, endless darkness enveloped the entire world.

Many street vendors are also packing up and going home.

"Excuse me, could you tell me where I am?" A student stopped a passerby.

The passerby slowly turned his head and stared at him expressionlessly.

It was a face that looked completely bloodless, which appeared even more sinister in this environment.

The student paused, looking at the man's face, as if recognizing him: "Jiang Tao?? Weren't you eliminated in the last round? What are you doing here??"

Jiang Tao did not respond; he turned his body completely around and stared intently at the student.

"You are an outsider."

The once noisy town streets immediately fell silent.

All the passersby and townspeople nearby stopped what they were doing and cast sinister glances at Hu Xiong and his group.

Some people even pulled out boning knives from the pork stall.

Tiger finally realized something was wrong with these people. Instantly, his hair stood on end, his body tensed up, and he clenched his fists warily.

"Jiang...Jiang Tao...what's wrong?"

The student who had been in the previous situation hadn't reacted yet. Startled by "Jiang Tao's" appearance, he took a step back and asked timidly.

"They are outsiders."

"The outsiders are coming to steal our things again."

“Kill them.”

“Kill them.”

“Kill them.”

"kill......"

The townspeople, upon realizing that Hu Xiong and his group were outsiders, completely lost their previously enthusiastic smiles, replaced by a chilling, icy demeanor reminiscent of an ancient glacier cave.

At the same time, they were like soulless zombies, expressionless, muttering words devoid of any emotion.

Everyone surrounded them.

"Tiger...Brother Tiger!"

Several students stood back to back, terrified as they watched the ancient townspeople surround them.

Hu Xiong's eyes darkened.

He now realizes that this unusual situation is probably related to this round of matches!

However, he did not sense any soul power fluctuations from these people.

"You're courting death!" Hu Xiong unleashed his soul power, revealing his level 5.8 strength.

The soul power condensed into a form, as if a ferocious tiger had truly stood up behind him.

He let out a roar like a tiger, and his soul energy rippled outwards.

"Ah...!!" All the ancient townspeople were thrown away by the powerful soul energy, screaming as they fell more than ten meters away.

Some fell to the ground and rolled several times, just like they had been hit by a car.

Some were in worse condition, crashing into trees or walls with a loud "splat," leaving behind a pool of blood and mud.

Some had their arms and legs broken, and were pushed away by the shockwave of the soul force. The cracking sound of bones breaking could be clearly heard.

"Overestimating one's abilities."

Hu Xiong coldly surveyed his surroundings.

I had initially thought that these strange townspeople might pose some kind of threat.

It turns out that these people all seem to be ordinary people, not even Level 1 superhumans.

“You… will not die a good death…” A townsman lying in a pool of blood weakly raised his head, pointed at Hu Xiong, and said, “The Holy Maiden will judge you evil demons…” After saying that, he closed his eyes and died.

[Hint: You have killed 33 townspeople]

[Hint: Your sin value +33]

Hu Xiong frowned slightly when he saw the prompt given on the system panel in front of him.

Several other students gathered around.

"Brother Tiger, what exactly is going on?"

"Did...did we kill someone...?"

Hu Xiong sneered: "Kill who? These guys are just a bunch of NPCs."

"NPC?" The students were all stunned.

“Haven’t you figured it out yet?” Hu Xiong walked to a corpse and turned it over with his foot. “This person who looks exactly like Jiang Tao has no soul power in his body. He’s just an ordinary person. Obviously, he’s not the real Jiang Tao.”

One student realized what was happening and immediately said, "Brother Tiger, are you saying that the reason this town has become like this is because the competition organizers deliberately set up a challenge for us?"

"That must be it," Hu Xiong said gravely. "Otherwise, I can't think of any other reason. I reckon this place is some kind of scene from a game, and we are the players. We have to get out of this scene to pass this level!"

Upon hearing this, the students suddenly realized what was going on.

"Those townspeople were really weird..." a student said with a complicated expression. "One second they were fine, the next they were like they were possessed by ghosts. It was really scary..."

"What's so scary? All the fear comes from insufficient firepower." Another student curled his lip: "These people are so weak in combat, there's nothing to be afraid of."

"You...you all look!" another student suddenly cried out, pointing at the corpses of the townspeople.

The bodies of the townspeople who had died suddenly began to move again.

Their hands and feet seemed unrestrained by their joints, twisting irregularly, until one by one they slowly got up from the ground.

The resurrected townspeople were covered in blood, expressionless, and looked like zombies.

"Outsiders..."

"Kill them..."

"kill......"
