Chapter 23 The Best Experiment

"Cough cough cough..."

The scene was filled with billowing smoke and dust.

When the dust settled, the monster's ten souls had vanished without a trace.

Lin Nai was speechless. She hadn't expected that Shi Hun would be so cowardly. He was once a god, yet he just ran away like that.

Tang Hongshan brushed away the dust, gripped his straight sword, and stood up: "Cough cough... Xiao Chuan, Yu Xi, are you both alright?"

Lin Yuxi replied, "Captain Tang, we're fine."

She had just encountered the monster Ten Souls, and her arm was cut by the sword energy, but it was nothing serious.

Yang Xiaochuan also said, "I'm fine too..." Then he looked around and asked, "Did that otherworldly monster run away?"

"It seems so," Tang Hongshan said, then turned his head with a complicated expression and looked at the night sky not far away.

Unexpectedly, this trip not only led them to the White Death's apostle and clues about the monster with divine power, but also to the fallen angel of the Myriad Manifestations level...

I wonder if this black angel really got lost by accident when he came to the human world, or if there's another reason behind it?

Lin Nai raised his hand, looked at his palm, and seemed to be deep in thought.

In the face of the Ten Souls, he managed to retrieve the silver scythe from the White Reaper's office in a moment of desperation.

But what did you do just now?

Linna wanted to recapture that feeling from before, but she just couldn't find it again...

Lin Nai sighed inwardly, thinking, 'This thing is really hard to control.'

Night fell, and the child's eyes slowly returned to their normal black color.

She approached Lin Nai and asked, "Brother Lin Nai, are you alright?"

“…It’s nothing.” Lin Nai came back to her senses, looked at the girl in front of her, and reached out to pat her head: “Thanks for earlier.”

"Hmm..." The girl lowered her head, her fingers fiddling with the buttons on her clothes.

Tang Hongshan immediately contacted the Night Watch headquarters: "Hey, Captain, we've found the monster that injured a small squad of Night Watchmen... but it's not a demon, it's an unknown otherworldly race, and it possesses some divine power. We couldn't capture it, and it got away... Yes, I'll explain the details to you when I get back. By the way, we've found the White Death's apostle... Hmm, I'll try my best to persuade him."

After hanging up the phone, Tang Hongshan sheathed his long sword and approached Lin Nai: "Classmate, are you alright?"

Lin Nai shrugged: "It's just a scratch, nothing serious."

Tang Hongshan nodded, then looked at Ye Wan'er beside him, paused, and said, "You must be Princess Ye Wan'er of the Black Angel Clan, right? Hello, I am Tang Hongshan, the captain of the third squad of the Night Watchmen of Ye City."

One night, a strange middle-aged man suddenly approached her and greeted her, leaving her momentarily flustered: "Ah...I...you..."

He immediately bowed slightly and politely said, "Hello..."

Tang Hongshan was somewhat bewildered. In just a short while, how could this girl suddenly seem like a completely different person?

She turned to look at Lin Nai, gazing at him with a questioning look.

Lin Nai touched her nose: "Emmm... It's nothing, she's just having a social anxiety attack. This child hasn't had much contact with strangers."

Tang Hongshan: "?"

"Oh, she has a dual personality. Don't worry about her. She'll revert to what she was doing just now if she gets provoked." Lin Nai waved her hand.

Tang Hongshan suddenly realized.

So, you have a split personality...?

"So, the person who called earlier saying they took in a lost black angel girl from another dimension was you?"

"It's me." Lin Nai tilted her head. "So, you're the uncle who answered the phone the other day?"

"Yes..." Tang Hongshan was both amused and exasperated, never expecting such a coincidence in the world.

"Lin Nai, how about we talk somewhere else?" Tang Hongshan brought up the main topic.

Lin Yuxi and Yang Xiaochuan also followed, looking at Lin Nai expectantly.

Linna could roughly guess what they wanted to say, but still calmly asked, "Is there something you need?"

“You have awakened a very promising divine sequence.” Tang Hongshan looked at Lin Nai and said formally, “We would like to invite you to join our Night Watch.”

Linna fell silent, seemingly deep in thought.

Seeing his reaction, Tang Hongshan wasn't in a hurry: "How about we get in the car and talk?"

“Okay,” Lin Nai replied readily.

Tang Hongshan smiled and then looked at Ye Wan'er: "Your Highness Ye, is this your first time visiting our human plane? How about we come to the Night Watch headquarters in Ye City? We warmly welcome our allies from the Black Angels."

"Ah, I..." Ye Wan'er hesitated, glancing at Lin Nai beside her, "Okay..."

The Night Watch's vehicle had already pulled up and stopped by the roadside.

It was a very large SUV, the kind that could seat seven people.

The group of people got into the car separately.

Before Tang Hongshan got into the car, Lin Yuxi secretly pulled him aside and whispered, "Team Leader Tang, the guys from the information team just texted me saying that the people from the gene company have already contacted Lin Nai before us."

Tang Hongshan immediately raised an eyebrow.

Lin Yuxi said with some worry, "The gene company is much richer than us. The conditions, resources, and benefits they offer are all better than what we night watchmen receive. What if..."

"There's no room for 'what ifs'." Tang Hongshan said seriously, "The director has given a firm order: we must win him over no matter what. This matter can only succeed; it cannot fail."
