Chapter 25: Who took it?

Late at night, there was a knock on the door, which was particularly obvious in the quiet village.

Li Mei slammed Huo Jue's door hard, unable to conceal the anger in her eyes: "Huo Jue, get out here right now!"

"You little bastard, you have no father or mother, how dare you plot against me, your aunt!"

Li Mei's cursing was so loud that many people in the surrounding area turned on their lights and walked out slowly.

Some people were still yawning, looking like they hadn't woken up yet.

"Mr. Huo, why are you not sleeping so late at night? What are you doing?"

"Yeah, I'm exhausted from working during the day, and now I can't even sleep peacefully at night?"

Li Mei listened to the noises coming from all around her and said angrily, "What's your business? Go do what you need to do!"

Seeing that her knocking didn't wake Huo Jue up, she kicked the door hard: "Huo Jue, don't hide in there and keep silent. I know you are home!"

Huo Jue stood in the yard and glanced at Wen Xia Nuan: "Wen Zhiqing, why don't you go back to sleep first?"

Wen Xia Nuan shook her head and gave Huo Jue a sly smile: "If I go in now, can you handle these two by yourself?"

Huo Jue is a dull person, and he is okay when facing Huo Zhiguo, but he is no match for Li Mei at all.

"And if Li Mei asks you where those things went, what will you say then?"

Huo Jue was silent for a moment. Li Mei's shouting outside the house continued. Wen Xia Nuan took this opportunity to walk over and open the closed door.

Li Mei took advantage of this moment to quickly walk in. Seeing Huo Jue standing in the courtyard, she glared at him angrily: "You bastard, you've schemed against me and your uncle!"

She pointed at Huo Jue, but Wen Xia Nuan closed the gate in front of everyone outside, blocking out the sight of the good intentions.

"I don't understand what my aunt is saying."

Li Mei sneered: "You don't understand? Let me ask you!"

Her high-pitched voice instantly lowered a lot at this moment. Huo Jue's expression swept over her, and his voice came over: "Huo Jue, where are the things your uncle buried?"

He looked calm, while Li Mei's expression was filled with coldness: "Tell me, where did those things go?"

Wen Xia Nuan saw Li Mei ask this question immediately, and her anxiety subsided. "Huo Jue, you should let these two elders in your family go inside to talk."

"Wen Zhiqing, right?"

Li Mei knew that her man had suffered a lot because of her, and a shadow flashed across her eyes: "Wen Zhiqing, shouldn't you also come and tell me where the things are?"

Wen Xia Nuan had already stepped into the front hall, and Li Mei and others followed.

Her eyes fell on Li Mei: "Aunt, I don't understand what you mean."

Li Mei sneered, "Wen Xianuan, you don't understand what I mean? But when I look at you, I feel like you understand it very well."

"Where are those things?"

Huo Jue stepped into the house. Wen Xia Nuan glanced at him. Li Mei's voice continued, and Wen Xia Nuan said, "Isn't the thing buried where it is?"

She frowned and looked at Li Mei: "Auntie came to Huo Jue just to ask this?"

"Then you really wronged him."

Wen Xia Nuan looked at Huo Jue: "He has been busy at home since he got off work today. Not only me, but also Old Madam Huo can testify for him."

Li Mei sneered, "Wen Zhiqing, the witnesses you mentioned are all people close to Huo Jue. Why should I believe what you say?"

Huo Jue frowned, looking at Li Mei's aggressive expression. He took a step forward, blocking Wen Xia Nuan's way, and said to Li Mei, "If you don't believe me, you can go ask grandma."

Li Mei was speechless for a moment. As the old lady's daughter-in-law, she had been deeply afraid of her since she got married.

Wen Xia Nuan had her right hand. Li Mei looked at Wen Xia Nuan and said, "Don't use this old lady to pressure me, Wen Xia Nuan. Do you really think I don't know what you're planning?"

Wen Xia Nuan stared at Li Mei in silence, her expression indifferent: "Aunt, it was you who wanted a witness. Isn't it good enough that I found one for you right now?"

"Were you lying when you said you wanted a witness?"

Li Mei gritted her teeth as she looked at Wen Xia Nuan. Wen Xia Nuan covered her mouth and yawned, "If Auntie doesn't want to ask Grandma, please don't disturb her in the middle of the night. I have to go to work tomorrow."

Li Mei blocked Wen Xia Nuan's way: "No, how can you leave if we haven't made our point clear?"

She stared at Li Mei with burning eyes. Li Mei took a deep breath and said, "The things were dug up and not found. We are the only ones in the house who know about it!"

"Auntie, are you sure we're the only ones who know?"

Huo Jue's eyes fell on Li Mei. Li Mei frowned and looked at him: "What do you mean?"

"Would Huo Chen not know?"

Huo Jue looked at her and said, "You said I took the things, but you didn't think about whether I had to do this. If I took the things, would you give me the support for grandma?"

"It's a thankless task for me, and I don't have to do it."

Li Mei retorted without hesitation: "There's no way Huo Chen could take those things away!"

She believed in her son's character.

Huo Jue didn't say anything. Li Mei felt uneasy when he stared at her. Huo Jue then said calmly, "Aunt, whether Huo Chen took it or not, you will know for yourself if you go and see for yourself."

Hearing this, Huo Zhiguo reached out and grabbed Li Mei. His eyes swept over Huo Chen and Wen Xia Nuan. He leaned closer to Li Mei and said, "Let's go first."

Li Mei was unwilling, so Huo Zhiguo pulled her hard, and Li Mei walked out reluctantly.

Wen Xia Nuan stood beside Huo Jue, watching the two people leave in a hurry, and said slowly: "Uncle, don't forget the support money for Grandma Huo!"

Huo Zhiguo's face changed. Li Mei turned her head and met the provocation in Wen Xianuan's eyes. She gritted her teeth and could only swallow her unwillingness.

"Huo Jue, close the door."

Huo Jue responded and glanced at Wen Xia Nuan, a hint of a smile flashing across his eyes.

At the gate, Huo Jue watched Huo Zhiguo and Li Mei leave. He seemed to have thought of something, and his eyes fell on them. "Uncle, I hope you can remember what Wen Zhiqing said. Don't forget to pay the alimony."

Li Mei turned around and was about to leave, but when she heard Huo Jue's words, she paused and her eyes fell on Huo Jue: "Don't bother with this matter! If Huo Chen really took the things, I will give you the money I deserve!"

Li Mei retracted her gaze and glanced at Huo Zhiguo: "Let's go!"
