Chapter 42 I Believe in You

"Wen Zhiqing, we're here."

Wen Xia Nuan came back to her senses belatedly, her eyes falling on him. When she realized that she was still being held by Huo Jue, she patted his shoulder and said, "Put me down first."

Huo Jue responded and placed her on a chair. Looking at Wen Xia Nuan, he said, "I'll get you some medicine for sprains and bruises."

"No!"

Wen Xia Nuan stopped Huo Jue and said, "Have you forgotten? I gave you the potion. I still have some in my bag. Take it and apply it on me."

Huo Jue breathed a sigh of relief and nodded: "Then I'll get it for you."

"Wen Zhiqing, shall I apply it on you?"

Wen Xia Nuan shook her head: "I'll do it myself."

This time she sprained her ankle and asked Huo Jue to carry her back. It would be inappropriate for him to apply medicine on her.

And thinking about how she was staring at him in a daze, Wen Xia Nuan also needed to calm herself down.

"Thank you for bringing me back this time. Huo Jue, can you please leave first?"

Huo Jue's eyes were filled with emotions, but when he saw Wen Xia Nuan's serious expression, he still nodded: "Okay, I understand."

He walked out, and Wen Xia Nuan took out the medicine and rubbed her ankle, grimacing in pain.

"Huo Jue!"

Old Mrs. Huo stayed in the house for a long time. When she heard footsteps coming from the corridor, she called him.

"grandmother."

Huo Jue paused, not expecting her to be still awake so late. "Why haven't you rested yet?"

Mrs. Huo's face was gloomy, with a hint of coldness in her expression: "Come in!"

Huo Jue paused, and Old Madam Huo scolded him, "Why, you don't even listen to me?"

How dare he?

Huo Jue walked into the house. Old Mrs. Huo pursed her lips, a gloomy look flashing across her eyes. "Do you want to tell me what happened outside?"

Huo Jue said nothing. Old Madam Huo snorted coldly, "Your uncle's family is still connected to you even if we break bones. Why are you targeting them just for an outsider?"

He raised his head and looked at his grandmother. He had endured it so many times, and this time Huo Jue didn't want to endure it any longer: "Grandma, Huo Chen locked me up in the granary. It's so hot, if Yanfang hadn't found me, I might have died in there!"

"Are you sure what I'm going through is just a small thing?"

Huo Jue's voice was calm, but upon closer listening, it was still gloomy.

Old Madam Huo glanced at Huo Jue and said, "Look at you! I just said a few words, and you're so stubborn that you want to challenge me. Huo Jue, look at you!"

Huo Jue was exhausted after a long day and didn't have the energy to continue arguing with the old lady. "Grandma, if you don't have anything else to say, I'll leave first."

He turned and was about to leave. The old lady saw him and reached out with her cane, knocking hard on the ground: "If you want to leave, I won't stop you! But you have to remember this!"

"Huo Chen's job was arranged by your uncle with great difficulty. Go to the captain tomorrow morning and tell him that you will not pursue Huo Chen anymore!"

Huo Jue paused as he was about to leave, his eyes fixed on the old lady. Without turning around, he spoke in a cold voice, "Impossible! I won't agree to this!"

The old lady stared at Huo Jue in frustration.

The door was closed, completely blocking out the old lady's angry curses. Huo Jue walked forward, feeling more tired than ever before.

Huo Jue no longer felt sleepy for a while, so he simply sat outside the door.

"Huo Jue?"

A flashlight beamed down the dark road. Huo Jue looked at the people coming and going, and his gaze fell on the captain: "Captain."

He put away the flashlight, looked at Huo Jue and smiled: "What are you doing sitting at the door so late at night?"

Huo Jue smiled but said nothing. The captain seemed to see his hesitation and changed the subject: "I also have something to tell you."

The team leader felt Huo Jue's gaze on him and said, "Everyone in the village committee has seen your hard work during this period. It just so happens that we haven't found a suitable person to take the scorekeeper position vacated by Huo Chen. We discussed it and decided to let you take over."

Huo Jue was stunned for a moment. He never expected that such a good thing would happen to him!

But then, as if he had thought of something, Huo Jue looked at the captain anxiously again: "But my background..."

The captain waved his hand. "Huo Jue, this happened a long time ago. Is it really worth your worry? Besides, your component was eliminated long ago. Why should you be so worried?"

Huo Jue pursed his lips and smiled, a surge of strength suddenly filling his heart. "Captain, I will definitely not let the organization down! I will do my best!"

He spoke quickly, and the captain smiled and put his hand on Huo Jue's shoulder: "Okay, sit down first."

"Besides telling you about being the captain, I have something else to discuss with you."

Huo Jue was stunned for a moment. The captain pursed his lips, thought for a moment, and said, "Huo Chen's matter was reported to the town. The impact was too bad. Your uncle actually came to me later. He said that your grandmother didn't want the matter to become a big deal."

"I came here to ask what you think."

Upon hearing this, Huo Jue pursed his lips and said, "Captain, I don't want to forgive you this time."

The captain didn't seem surprised. Deep down, he felt a sense of realization: "Huo Jue, if you don't want to, no one can go against your wishes. But you have to be careful about your uncle."

Huo Jue nodded: "I know."

The captain didn't say anything else. He stood up and patted his pants. "You've made your decision. I won't say anything else. I'm going back first."

Huo Jue stood up and walked him a few steps. Seeing the captain wave at him, he turned back.

The uneasiness in his heart dissipated, and Huo Jue's steps became a little lighter.

Have a good night.

The next day, early morning.

Smoke curled from the kitchen chimney. Wen Xia Nuan limped into the house and saw Huo Jue cooking breakfast. She sat on a chair beside him and said, "Huo Jue."

"Wen Zhiqing."

Huo Jue stopped what he was doing and looked at her ankle: "How's your foot?"

Wen Xia Nuan waved her hand: "After taking the medicine, the pain is much better. I guess I'll just be a little slower these few days."

As she spoke, she looked at Huo Jue and said, "The weather is nice today, suitable for sowing wheat seeds. Why don't you take out the rest of your wheat seeds first?"

Huo Jue thought for a moment and nodded: "Okay."

Wen Xia Nuan breathed a sigh of relief: "Then let's go after breakfast."

After hearing what Huo Jue said, Wen Xia Nuan looked up and smiled at him: "Let's work hard. Although I dare not boast, my efforts will always pay off!"

Huo Jue's heart was filled with passion at Wen Xia Nuan's words. He stared at her with burning eyes: "Okay, I believe you!"
