Chapter 53: Call your husband if you have something to say, Zhou Jibai if you don’t?

Chapter 53: Call your husband if you have something to say, Zhou Jibai if you don’t?

On the night the old lady left, Zhou Jibai set out to steal the painting "Spring Mountain with Birds on the Branches" for Shi Huai.

Zhou Jibai waited until late at night when the servants were all asleep, then he turned off the surveillance camera and sneaked into the basement of the old lady's house. If someone saw him openly taking out the painting, he would be in trouble.

I guess the old lady just arrived in Country A and will rush over immediately after getting the news.

After successfully obtaining the "Picture of Birds on the Branches of Trees in Spring Mountains", Zhou Jibai withdrew in time and handed the original work to Shi Huai like presenting a treasure.

Looking at the original work Zhou Jibai was holding in front of him, Shi Huai's eyes lit up with a joyful smile, and he held the treasure lovingly in his arms.

"Thank you!"

Shi Huai held the painting and looked up at Zhou Jibai. There was a sparkling luster in his almond-shaped eyes, reflecting Zhou Jibai's handsome face.

Seeing Shi Huai smiling so happily, Zhou Jibai's eyes were filled with affection. He felt that it would be worth it even if the old lady punished him to kneel in the ancestral hall and wear out the cushion.

Zhou Jibai raised his eyebrows slightly: "Just a verbal thank you?"

"Yeah!" Shi Huai nodded like a chick pecking at rice.

After thinking for a moment, she immediately stood on tiptoe, raised her head and kissed Zhou Jibai's lips several times, "Can't I just say thank you verbally?"

Zhou Jibai was stunned by the soft and sweet touch of her lips. Then he gently touched the place where Shi Huai had just kissed him with his fingertips and chuckled, "Are you a woodpecker?"

Shi Huai glanced at him and couldn't help but hug the original work tightly in his arms: "Then I won't kiss you next time?"

Zhou Jibai ignored her and asked, "Is it heavy to hold?"

"Hey, it's not heavy."

She felt very happy when she thought that she could do something within her ability to help her grandmother. How could she care about the heaviness of this original painting?

Zhou Jibai opened his thin lips and uttered a single word in a low voice: "Stupid."

After saying that, he reached out and took the painting that was almost warm in Shi Huai's arms back into his own hands.

"Eh?" Shi Huai thought Zhou Jibai was going to try to steal the painting from him, so he looked up at him, "What are you doing?! Didn't I thank you already?"

"Do you think I'm just looking for a couple of kisses from you?"

Zhou Jibai glanced at her for a moment, then quickly looked away, turned around and walked towards the study.

Shi Huai followed closely.

She and Zhou Jibai lived in a suite and walked through the corridor to the study.

Zhou Jibai slowly opened the fingerprint door lock, and then the light in the study came on. This was Shi Huai's first time in Zhou Jibai's study.

The study is spacious, minimalist and cool. Ebony bookcases span the entire wall. There are dedicated areas for reading, resting, and working. The obsidian-colored desk is spacious, with a laptop and a few books on top. After removing the items, it's easy to spread a quilt on top and use it as a bed.

Zhou Jibai casually threw the laptop and book in the middle of the desk aside, and then placed the "Picture of Birds on the Branches in Spring Mountains" on the table.

"Fix it right here, little drudge."

Shi Huai didn't expect that Zhou Jibai was so thoughtful and was willing to give his study to him.

"Um!"

But today, Shi Huai had no intention of repairing the painting. She simply examined the entire painting carefully, reaffirming her ability to repair it. With a little over a month's work, she should be able to finish the project by her grandmother's birthday.

There are no tools or anything yet.

If you go to buy it now, many tools are in short supply and you may have to wait a few days.

But for Shi Huai now, she has to race against time. It is too luxurious for her to relax and wait for a few days.

So that night, she looked through her address book and found a list of friends who she hadn't contacted for a long time and were almost forgotten.

After hesitating for a moment, she sent an emoticon.

Waiting anxiously for that person's reply.

It was already very late at night. Zhou Jibai looked at Shi Huai who was still staring at her phone, stretched out his long arm and held her phone in his hand.

"Go to sleep." His voice was low and it was rare for him to speak to Shi Huai in such a tone that did not allow him to be argued with.

Shi Huai puffed up his cheeks and reached out to snatch the phone back: "I'm waiting for someone to reply."

"I haven't replied for such a long time because I don't want to pay attention to you." Zhou Jibai's words were sharp and to the point.

The blunt words fell into Shi Huai's ears, like an arrow piercing into Shi Huai's heart, and her face was visibly disappointed.

After all, the last time he and she chatted, it wasn't a pleasant experience. She might have made up her mind to cut ties with him, so ignoring him was perfectly normal. But Shi Huai couldn't help but feel a moment of sadness when he thought of her.

Zhou Jibai took in Shi Huai's dejected expression and asked, "You're being a bootlicker for others, and they don't agree?"

"No!" Shi Huai glared at him.

"Then why do you look so lost?"

Shi Huai bit her lip and turned her face away, hesitating whether to tell Zhou Jibai or not.

Zhou Jibai didn't intend to keep asking. "If you don't want to talk, go to sleep. It's already half past eleven. If you don't sleep, the baby in your belly will need to sleep too."

Shi Huai said nothing.

Then, there was a "click" sound, and the lights in the house suddenly went out, plunging into darkness.

Once the space became quiet, Shi Huai couldn't help but move closer to Zhou Jibai.

Her movements were as slow as a little snail. Before she could get close, Zhou Jibai embraced half of her body and she easily fell into his arms.

Shi Huai put her ear to Zhou Jibai's chest, sensing his strong, powerful heartbeat. After a while, she spoke softly.

"Zhou Jibai."

"If you have any problem, call your husband. If you have no problem, call Zhou Jibai?"

Shi Huai: “…”

She just wanted to have a casual chat with Zhou Jibai! But why was this person's words not gentle at all!?

Shi Huai hummed and said softly, "Husband."

The sweet voice tickled people's hearts. But in the dark night, Shi Huai couldn't see Zhou Jibai's face, and it seemed that he didn't seem to be too upset.

He just gave a low "hmm" as a response to himself.

Shi Huai moved twice in his arms and asked softly, "If you and your friend had a conflict and ended up parting on bad terms, how would you resolve it?"

Zhou Jibai: "Hang their ugly photos on the big screen in the mall and play them on loop for a few days. Wait for them to come and beg me for an apology."

Shi Huai's mouth twitched twice: "Is there no more decent way?"

"True friends should work together to resolve conflicts. If conflicts cannot be resolved, it means you are destined not to be friends."

Zhou Jibai's words were very pertinent, and Shi Huai felt a little heavy in his heart after hearing them.

Shi Huai hadn't contacted her since graduation. In her previous life, they hadn't spoken for over a year, but now, from the time they took their graduation photos in June to October, they had only been out of touch for four months.

Shi Huai sighed lightly, not knowing what to say.

During the four years of college, the relationship between Song Xuwen and I was more like family than family.

The reason for their separation back then made Shi Huai feel depressed and uncomfortable.
