[if line extra] Poor little Shi Huai
When he was eight years old, Shi Huai lost his mother.
Her father went to Changjing to teach, and she stayed in Guangnan to live with her grandparents.
During that period, Shi Huai was always sick and vomited everything he ate. The originally fair and tender jade ball became as thin as a skinny guy.
Shi Langyue and Li Huaisheng have not yet recovered from the grief of losing their daughter in old age and seeing their loved one die, and now they have to take care of their young granddaughter.
Shi Huai had a high fever again, rising and falling. Li Huaisheng and Shi Langyue took turns caring for him. In the middle of the night, the little guy kept calling for his mother, and the two of them felt heartbroken.
I took him to the hospital several times, and the doctor said it was just a common fever and cold.
The only reasonable answer was that the child was too young to immediately come to terms with his mother's death, and it was a traumatic experience. I prescribed some fever-reducing medication and allowed them to leave the hospital with the child.
Shi Huai's fever had subsided, but he was in a daze all day, often squatting alone at the door of his house, staring blankly ahead, as if waiting for something to return.
Waited until dusk and endured until night fell.
Shi Langyue stayed by her side, "Zhizhi, can you come home for dinner?"
Young Shi Huai would raise his wet eyes, his pupils dark and without any light: "Grandma, why hasn't Mom come back yet?"
Having not eaten or drunk water for a long time, the childish voice had become hoarse, and Shi Langyue's heart was broken when she heard it.
Shi Langyue sat with Shi Huai on the doorstep, hugging her thin body.
She raised her trembling hand and pointed at the brightest star in the dark night sky, the North Star. "Zhizhi, see? The brightest star in the sky is Mom. Mom is always watching over you from the sky."
"Then I can only see my mother on starry nights?" Shi Huai pursed his lips, paused, and then said to Shi Langyue very seriously: "Grandma, you lied. Mom is not a star."
Shi Langyue's heart trembled and tears fell uncontrollably.
She patted Shi Huai's shoulder and burst into tears: "My poor child."
…
Shi Huai is missing.
In the evening, Shi Langyue was worried about Shi Huai, who had only drunk two bowls of thin rice porridge all day. She got up and went to the cupboard to get some lotus cakes that Shi Huai usually liked to eat and brought them to her.
Shi Huai's door was open. Shi Langyue looked inside and found that the room was empty.
Shi Langyue was so frightened that her face turned pale, and she quickly called Li Huaisheng to look for her.
It was already dark, and the nights were very cold as late autumn approached. Shi Huai had been feeling unwell for a while, and only in the past two days had he stopped having a fever.
Shi Langyue was so worried that tears fell down her face. She called Shi Huai's name over and over again and called Shi Huai's father who was far away in Changjing.
The two elderly people found it difficult to look for their child in the dark, which caused a sensation in the entire community and neighbors, and a lot of people helped them find Shi Huai.
Later, Shi Huai was found at the doorstep of his home in the community in the north of the city where his family of three lived.
Shi Huai was still wearing thin pajamas, with messy hair, sitting on the ground, leaning against the doorway and falling asleep. Her face was flushed from the heat, and her pale mouth was still murmuring, "Daddy and Mommy."
Li Huaisheng and Shi Langyue took the child to the hospital.
Shi Huai started to get sick intermittently again. Shi Langyue and Li Huaisheng were both worried that if Shi Huai continued to be sick like this, he would become a little fool.
The next day, Shi Huai's father rushed over from Changjing. Looking at Shi Huai lying on the hospital bed, pale and thin, looking like a monster, his heart was clenched into a ball by an invisible big hand.
He offered a word.
"Mom and Dad, I want to take Shi Huai to Changjing."
