Beside the second-floor window of Mingyue Tower, a dark shadow floated, its scarlet eyes fixed intently on her.
With a bang, the apricot blossom demon made her move, tearing open the door to the second-floor room and revealing the ghost's appearance.
Dressed in a white dress, her hair hanging down, still dripping wet, she seemed to be angered, her eyes blazing as she charged at the apricot blossom fairy.
"Turns out he was just a kid."
Long'er smiled contemptuously, took out her sword and slashed at the ghost, who barely dodged and screamed in fright.
"Don't kill me, what have I done wrong?"
Long'er sneered, "You've killed so many people and still show no remorse, your crime is compounded!"
"I didn't kill anyone, I didn't kill anyone at all."
Upon hearing this, the Apricot Blossom Fairy stopped, but Long'er did not, determined to annihilate her soul.
Just as the ghost was about to be killed, a lamp suddenly flew over and sucked it into the lamp.
Long'er immediately recognized the lamp as the one Long Sisi had just carried. Just when she was about to kill the evil spirit, she was causing trouble.
"Long Sisi, are you sick?"
"I'm not sick."
Sisi came out of the house. "What she said is true. She didn't kill anyone. She might know something."
Long'er sneered, "If she didn't kill anyone, who killed those men on the street?"
"She definitely didn't kill anyone."
The apricot tree spirit walked over and bowed slightly. "I am Chunyu. May I ask your names?"
Sisi recited the names of the three people, then looked at him curiously, "How do you know she didn't kill anyone? How dare you, a demon, come to catch ghosts?"
After the Demon King died, the demons and monsters were almost all of one faction, and they all harbored resentment towards the Heavenly Palace.
Isn't he afraid of being ostracized by his own kind when he comes to kill ghosts?
"She harbored resentment but couldn't harness it; otherwise, she would have definitely fought back. Besides, she drowned just two days ago, so her body should still be in the water. As for..."
Chunyu smiled faintly, "I am a disciple of the Flower Goddess. I only need this trial to cultivate an immortal body. Senior sisters and brothers, please give me your guidance."
So she's a disciple of the Flower Goddess, that means she's my teammate.
Sisi gave him a friendly smile.
Long'er snorted disdainfully. Even if that ghost didn't kill anyone, it should still be eliminated. Ghosts are harmful things!
The ghost was captured inside the lamp, which was clearly seen by the maids and servants in the mansion, and even the city lord was delighted.
"So you are a few esteemed individuals. It's a pleasure to meet you. Since you have rid this city lord of that evil spirit, I will certainly treat you well. This way, please."
Sisi and Xiaosi exchanged a glance. There were too many people around, so it wasn't appropriate to release the evil spirit for questioning.
"Thank you, Lord City Lord."
Chunyu smiled slightly, "It's late, so there's no need for further hospitality. Could the city lord please prepare a few rooms for us to stay in for a while?"
"Of course."
The city lord had his maids tidy up several side rooms and send over several dishes of food. As expected, the food was all made of stones of different sizes.
Sisi curiously put it in her mouth and bit it, almost breaking her tender little tooth.
"Aren't they wondering why the food is as hard as stone?"
"Maybe they're fine eating it."
Xiao Si gently pushed open the window, and saw a maidservant at the door eating a steamed bun. Although it was clearly a stone, she ate it bite by bite as if it were a steamed bun.
Sisi found it even stranger. She released the ghost from the lamp. When the ghost saw the four powerful people in the room, it didn't even dare to scream.
"Don't be afraid, we have some questions for you, just answer truthfully," Sisi said with a smile.
Long'er sneered, "If you can't answer or answer incorrectly, I will definitely cut you down with my sword."
The ghost's body trembled visibly.
Sisi glared at her. "Stop talking. Let it talk. What if you scare it into not daring to speak?"
"Are you sick? What's wrong with me...?"
"Alright."
Xiao Si interrupted her and asked the ghost, "You said you didn't kill anyone, then who killed all those men who were murdered every night? Are you the city lord's first wife?"
At this point, it began to cry sadly.
“I didn’t kill anyone, and I’m not the First Madam. I’m Chunxiang, the First Madam’s maid. I was murdered, and the First Madam was also murdered.”
Its excited ghostly figure flickered erratically.
"Take your time and tell me."
Sisi conjured a white candle, placed it on the table, and lit it. Chunxiang gave her a grateful look.
"It all started before the First Madam married into the City Lord's mansion. The First Madam was the eldest daughter of a prominent family of physicians in Jiangnan. After the Master passed away, the Madam took over the clinic."
What woman in the world practices medicine in public? Not only did she face skepticism, but her clinic's business plummeted. Without a man's protection, she was frequently harassed by men, but she endured it all.
Its cries grew even more piercing. "On the very day of the Lantern Festival, a servant from the Guan household suddenly came looking for us, saying that one of the concubines in the mansion was bleeding and, embarrassed to seek a male doctor, had instead summoned the madam."
The lady left, only to be met with humiliation from the young master of the Guan family. He not only did it himself... but also ordered the servants to do it. When the lady returned, she was as delicate as a porcelain doll...
"Why would he do this?" Xiao Si clenched her palms, her heart heavy.
"Because my wife and the city lord are childhood sweethearts, and his younger sister, who is now Concubine Guan, also loves the city lord and wants to be his legal wife."
"That Aunt Guan is so wicked."
Sisi pouted angrily. The Guan family members were all too wicked. She had to take care of this!
"Due to his parents' wishes and the affection between the city lord and his wife since childhood, the city lord still married his wife, but he never touched her. The following month, he married Concubine Guan."
