Chapter 18 The Snake King's Filial Piety.

Suddenly, a large snake appeared on the courtyard wall, its eyes as red as the July sun, filled with burning rage.

Zhuang Rongrong's legs trembled as she thought quickly. She had given Zhou Erqian snake-attracting powder, so logically, the snake should have gone to the Zhou family.

How did I end up at her house?

In just a few seconds, the snake king charged at her, causing chaos and collapsing the courtyard wall. It was clear that it wanted to bite her to death.

Zhuang Rongrong was terrified and instinctively ran into the house, hoping that she would be safe once the door was closed.

Unfortunately, she underestimated the snake king's abilities. The wooden door was easily destroyed by him, as thin as paper, and he roared as he charged toward her.

How could this be? How could this be?

Zhuang Rongrong screamed in fright, smashing all the tables and chairs around her, yelling, "I told you to go to the Zhou family, to find Zhou Sisi, not to come here... uh..."

His throat was being choked.

The snake king's tail coiled around her neck, and in an instant, Zhuang Rongrong felt her vision go completely dark.

"Release my daughter!" Liu Cuihua threw a torch at the snake king, which immediately loosened its tail.

It bit Liu Cuihua with its big mouth.

She ran outside in terror, but the snake king bit her shoulder and flung her out of the courtyard, where she collapsed unconscious on the ground.

"mother--!"

Zhuang Rongrong screamed in anguish.

Before she could even feel sad, that beast set his sights on her again.

The snake bit her foot and was about to swallow her whole. In her panic, Zhuang Rongrong grabbed the red cloth bag on the table.

Almost instantly, the snake king released its grip, and she fell to the ground from mid-air, her bones broken.

The snake king stared at the red cloth bundle with red eyes, filled with curiosity, but even more so with fear and a desire to avoid it at all costs.

Seeing its fear, Zhuang Rongrong clung tightly to the red cloth bag, gritting her teeth as she said, "You dare come up here? You idiot! I told you to bite Zhou Sisi to death, and you dare to touch me? You're asking for death!"

Although the snake king was afraid of the red cloth bag, he was also quite bold. After hearing this, he immediately rolled his eyes.

That red cloth bag could at most save her life, but it couldn't harm her, could it? Why would she say such a stupid thing?

But that's not enough to quell its hatred!

The snake king grew increasingly dissatisfied. It swung its tail and smashed all the villagers' houses into ruins before leaving.

It needs to hurry up and find something to apologize to the Dragon Princess!

Looking at the ruins, her broken leg, and her unconscious mother, Zhuang Rongrong blamed everything on Zhou Sisi.

Zhou Sisi, you just wait!

She wiped away her tears and limped toward Liu Cuihua, saying, "Mother, I'm going to find a doctor. You wait for Rongrong."

The next day, when Qin came out of the house, the yard was piled high with game, from wild boars and bears to field mice and sparrows, forming a small mountain.

They were all bitten through.

"Good heavens, what incredible luck! Someone actually brought us food?"

Qin rubbed her eyes hard and rushed back into the house, shouting, "Mother, come quickly and see, we've got a game in our house!"

The old lady was feeling lazy and sleepy when she heard this and couldn't help but chuckle. "Are you still half asleep? We were attacked by that big snake yesterday. The stench of snake hasn't dissipated yet. What prey would dare to come into our house?"

"Oh, Mother, come and see!"

Unable to get past her, the old lady had no choice but to get up.

He stood unsteadily at the door, his eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets in surprise.

"Good heavens, this...this..."

“I knew it, but Mother didn’t believe me.”

With so much stuff, who would believe it?!

"Could it be that God has opened his eyes and bestowed this upon our family? To appease us after being attacked by that giant snake yesterday?" the old lady muttered, and Qin Shi listened in a daze.

She had a feeling that these things were an apology from the giant snake; the symmetrical cuts on the prey looked just like snake fang marks.

That makes Lao Wu's explanation yesterday seem strange.

What could the Zhou family possibly fear from a giant snake?

They came with such force, so why did they suddenly leave?

As she was wondering, the old lady happily pulled her to deal with the things, saying, "Don't think about it. Maybe this is a blessing from God. Ever since Sisi stopped being stupid, hasn't God given us plenty of blessings? It must be that God didn't want Sisi to suffer, so He deliberately gave us these things."

"Don't just stand there, hurry up and get it sorted out. Rub the meat with salt to marinate it, so it doesn't spoil. Also, wake up the two kids and get them to work."

Distracted by her words, Qin Shi stopped thinking about the strange things and thought that she was probably just lucky because of Si Si. She dared not ask too much about the affairs of the heavens.

Xie Yan had already seen what was in the courtyard. Shocked, he felt that this matter was inextricably linked to Sisi.

He pulled the little one out of bed, helped her get dressed and put on her shoes, and Sisi was so happy she didn't want to leave.

The Great Demon King personally dressed her.

If word got out, the entire Three Realms would envy her.

Hehehe.

Unable to conceal his thoughts, the little one in his arms asked Xie Yan, his dark eyes flashing, "Sisi, do you know what's going on with the prey at the gate?"

Long Sisi tilted her head, her face full of childlike inquiry, "What prey?"

He pointed, and Long Sisi looked over, slightly taken aback, and subconsciously exclaimed, "So much meat!"

After saying that, Long Sisi frowned.

"Five pots, Sisi just woke up. Sisi, I don't know where these things came from."

"You really don't know?"

The little guy shook his head.

Xie Yan believed it; he thought the "demon" had transformed into something in the middle of the night and brought back these prey.

If it wasn't her, who else could it be?

Just then, the black bird that Sisi wanted to stay landed on the windowsill and cawed at her.

"Princess, those things were a tribute from the Snake King. He said he was sorry, as he couldn't come out to appease the people during the day for fear of your wrath. So he asked me to come and apologize to you. He said the person who summoned him had a powerful red cloth bag, and he was afraid. It was his incompetence, but he destroyed that man's house and bit his mother. Please don't be angry with the snake clan, Princess. He will come to apologize tonight."

Everyone in the village knew that the carp spirit carried a bodhisattva wrapped in red cloth, and things turned out exactly as she had imagined.

Long Sisi, being simple-minded, did not blame the snake king. She also sent a message through the black bird, telling it not to come down the mountain and scare people.

Then he told Xie Yan the truth.

But Zhou Erqian overheard it.

He was furious. "Zhou Sisi, what nonsense are you spouting? How could Rongrong have brought that snake here? Why would Rongrong bring a snake to harm us? I think you're wronging her!"

Under his angry gaze, Sisi retorted crisply, "It was Zhuang Rongrong who attracted the snake. She even gave you snake-attracting powder, which was in that purse. Second brother, you were clearly deceived by Zhuang Rongrong."

Zhou Erqian grinned coldly, his dark face like that of a ferocious beast. "I think you're just jealous of Rongrong. Rongrong wouldn't harm us."

During the famine years, she sent us a lot of things—food, medicine, even scarce water. What did you do? Do I need to list them all for you?
