"Little miracle doctor, great-aunt, from now on you will be our Zhao family's savior, our Zhao family's great-aunt. We will remember your great kindness for the rest of our lives. Thank you!" Zhao Tianfu kowtowed repeatedly.
Sisi waved her hand, "It's good that Yuan'er is alright. He's recovered after taking my medicine, so he won't faint from weakness anymore."
However, she needed to figure out why Yuan'er looked exactly like her dragon pot.
In the dungeon.
The old man leisurely sipped his wine, watching the swaying bucket. He laughed happily whenever a scream came from inside the bucket.
"This girl is quite resilient to bites."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the bucket suddenly stopped.
The old man got up and went over to knock on the door. "Hey, why aren't you saying anything?"
The human voices disappeared, and so did the mice.
It can't be...
The old man panicked. That man had said he couldn't let her die; if he killed her, he'd be in big trouble.
He hurriedly opened the lid and peered inside. A dark shadow suddenly lunged at him. The old man covered his eyes, screamed, and fell to the ground, his hands covered in blood.
"You...you're still alive! You lied to me, you shameless slut, how dare you lie to me!"
Zhuang Rongrong was covered in blood, and her body was covered in rat bites; in some places, her skin was on the verge of falling off.
She stared intently at the old man, her grip tightening, blood and flesh seeping from between her fingers.
She had to fight and kill all the rats to get out; she would never have peace of mind if she didn't kill the old man.
"What, what do you want to do?" The old man watched as she picked up a stone from the ground, and tried to get up and run away in fear, but the more panicked he became, the less he could get up.
Zhuang Rongrong stood before him, her face covered in blood, her eyes as cold as if she were looking at a dead man. "You should have died long ago."
Bang--!
With each blow, Zhuang Rongrong dumped all the anger, humiliation, resentment, and fear she had in the bucket onto her head.
Soon after, the person stopped breathing.
"Ha ha ha ha."
She laughed like a madwoman, but fell to the ground like a leaf. She didn't seem to feel any pain, curled up and hugged herself, and then suddenly burst into tears.
Why?
Why be so unfair to her?
She finally found a good home, and she thought she could start over and live a good life again. Why should she be stopped?
Why can't we be nicer to her?
"Miss Rongrong."
Zhuang Rongrong's face stiffened.
She opened her blurry eyes and looked over. Xu Zhenzhen was standing in front of her, looking down at her.
"My family invites you."
...
To express his gratitude to his great-aunt for saving his life, Zhao Tianfu held a grand banquet at the Zhao family home. Qin Shi, not wanting Sisi to stand out too much, kept the news quiet.
Zhao Tianfu had drunk some wine, feeling both happy and sad. He thanked Qin Shi profusely, but before he knew it, he was arguing with You Rong again.
"You're a wicked person. Sisi is our Zhao family's little ancestor, our great-aunt. How can she become your goddaughter? No way, I don't agree."
You Rong rolled her eyes. "I don't care whether you agree or not. I already recognized Sisi as my goddaughter a long time ago. What are you yelling about in front of me?"
"If Sisi is your goddaughter, then what am I to you? Am I your grandson?"
"You can be one if you want."
"You're talking nonsense! My great-aunt is going to your house to be your goddaughter? Who do you think you are? If anyone's going to be a goddaughter, it'll be the emperor!"
You Rong got excited and said, "Pah! Don't be so unreasonable! I've already accepted my fate and can't change it. You'd better call me Great-Grandmother, or I'll take Sisi away right now!"
Zhao Tianfu, drunk and carefree, shouted, "You dare! You dare take me away? I'll go and vomit in front of your city lord's mansion! I'll shit in front of your city lord's mansion and make you stink to death!"
"..."
The two were arguing fiercely, while Sisi ate with great relish; everything was delicious.
Wen Sang noticed Xiao Tao serving the dishes and grabbed her, "Xiao Tao, where's Rongrong?"
"This servant did not see Miss Rongrong." Her gaze was clearly evasive.
"Speak quickly!"
“Mother,” Zhao Yuan said, “Zhuang Rongrong caused your life to be in danger. I have already had her locked in the dungeon and beaten to death. You don’t need to worry about her anymore.”
"What?" Wen Sang's face turned pale. "How could you beat her to death? It's not necessarily her fault."
"Who was that? You were perfectly fine before, how come you were in critical condition just because she touched you? Didn't you ever think about that?"
Wen Sang moved her lips but couldn't speak.
After a long pause, she spoke again, "Rongrong can summon rain; she can save all the people of Wuzhou."
"Yes, if saving the people of Wuzhou requires sacrificing you, I am unwilling. If it were me, I believe Mother would not be willing either."
Wen Sang was naturally unwilling, as he was her only son.
But without water, people will die of thirst.
Zhao Yuan leaned against her, "Mother, Yuan'er just wants to stay with you forever."
Wen Sang's eyes reddened, and she murmured, "Alright, Mother will stay with Yuan'er. Mother won't ask about Rongrong anymore. Perhaps this is her fate."
Zhou Erqian, who had been standing there in a daze, suddenly turned and ran towards the dungeon after hearing Zhao Yuan's words.
If he remembered correctly, the city lord had asked Brother Xu to go to the Zhao family dungeon and bring out a child, and that child was probably Rongrong.
Zhao Yuan wouldn't really have someone beat Rongrong to death, would he?
In the city lord's palace.
City Lord Sun Changjing sat in the main hall drinking tea. Xu Zhenzhen bowed and reported, "My lord, the person has been brought back, but the situation is not optimistic. She has many wounds from rat bites, and I am having the doctor apply medicine to her."
"Did she bring back the Buddha statue from the red cloth bag?"
"I brought it back."
A maidservant came over carrying a red cloth package.
Sun Changjing was really curious as to why the Bodhisattva was always wrapped in a red cloth. Was the Bodhisattva afraid of being seen by people?
He got up and walked over, intending to untie the red cloth bundle, when suddenly someone burst in.
"Brother Xu!"
Zhou Erqian asked anxiously, "Where's Rongrong? How is she? Is she still alive?"
"She's fine, she was just bitten by a rat. She's getting medicine applied in the next room. You can wait here."
“Alright.” Zhou Erqian, the city lord, bowed.
Sun Changjing withdrew his hand, which was about to examine the red cloth bag, and sat back down in the main seat.
A moment later, a maid helped Zhuang Rongrong over.
She was wrapped in strips of cloth, from which blood seeped, and she looked horrifying. Zhou Erqian suddenly stood up.
"Rongrong, what happened? How did you get bitten by a rat?"
The sight of the man before him made him completely forget that Zhuang Rongrong had once tried to kill him.
Upon seeing him, Zhuang Rongrong felt an overwhelming pang of sadness. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, and she instinctively lunged towards him.
"Brother Erqian!"
Zhou Erqian hugged her, "What exactly happened? I went to the dungeon, and I didn't see any rats. How could you have been bitten by rats?"
"It's that old man in the dungeon. He caught a lot of rats and deliberately let them bite me. It hurts so much! It hurts so much! Brother Erqian, why did you take so long to come!"
