"Granny, Rongrong is here to serve you."
The bed curtains rustled slightly, and a lazy voice came from inside, "Come and take a look."
Bamboo kicked Zhuang Rongrong, who fell to the ground and could only grit her teeth and walk towards it, trembling.
"Granny Fang..."
"Good boy/girl."
The bed curtains were lifted, and Granny Fang cleared her throat, as if a wad of phlegm was stuck there. She gestured to Zhuang Rongrong.
Zhuang Rongrong looked on in confusion, completely bewildered.
Granny Fang's face darkened, and she kicked Zhuang Rongrong hard, sending her crashing into the table and causing her head to bleed profusely.
Bamboo rushed over, "Oh dear, you little rascal, I've taught you so many times, how come you still can't learn? When Grandma needs to spit, you better open your mouth obediently."
"Open your mouth?"
Zhuang Rongrong thought of something, and despite feeling nauseous, she looked at the bamboo with astonishment.
"How can Granny spit if you don't open your mouth?"
As he spoke, Zhu Zi dragged her toward the bed.
Zhuang Rongrong struggled violently; she refused, she would rather die than suffer such humiliation.
"I don't want to! I don't want to!"
She seemed to explode, and the bamboo couldn't hold her down, turning the house upside down in an instant.
Granny Fang spat, her anger flaring. "Throw her into the snake pit! If she's still alive in three days, break both her legs and make her beg on the streets!"
...
"My goodness, how quickly things have changed!" The village chief rubbed his eyes so hard they were almost blind. "Liu Da, am I seeing things? Our wheat field has changed again?"
"That rain must be divine rain, village chief! It looks like our village is about to become rich!"
Liu Da's face was rosy and full of joy.
In previous years, wheat would ripen in July or August. If it ripens in May, it's a whole month too early. Right now, the market is full of old wheat. If they produce new wheat, there will be a buying frenzy.
Moreover, their new wheat is plump and looks like a little baby. With new wheat available, who would bother with old wheat?
The village chief naturally understood this principle. "Have the Zhou family members returned yet? I noticed that the crops on their burial plot are growing the best. They might harvest several hundred more kilograms than the entire village. They don't even keep an eye on it. What if someone steals it?"
Liu Da clicked his tongue, "Who would be so heartless as to touch her things? Her daughter, Sisi, brought life-saving rain to our village. Everyone in our village is grateful and would never have such thoughts. We are all kind-hearted."
These words, however, made the village chief break out in a rash all over his body.
He suddenly realized how foolish he had been to believe Liu's words and lead people to burn that silly girl to death. If she had actually been burned to death, he would have killed an entire village.
Feeling guilty, the village chief planned to go check on the land after dinner. Since they hadn't returned yet, he figured he'd take a stroll and keep an eye on it while he was at it.
The village chief went home for dinner, and indeed some people in the village had designs on it, especially Zhou Youfu's family.
Rumors circulated in the village that the rain was divine rain, and he believed them these past two days, witnessing the wheat change several times with his own eyes.
But strangely, his wheat was the only crop that remained unchanged.
They were all so thin and bony that they looked like bone fragments; a gust of wind could knock them down in large numbers, and their ears of grain were only the size of a finger.
Although it's better than before, it still can't compare to others. They can collect hundreds of kilograms, while he can only collect a few dozen.
What can you do with dozens of kilograms of that?
Zhou Youfu was so angry that he set his sights on the Zhou family's land. He felt that it was that silly girl who angered him and caused the rain to fall on his land instead of a divine rain.
Anyway, her wheat field was full and dense, so he wouldn't be able to spot it even if he took a little.
"Zhuangzhuang, hurry up and cut it. Daddy's going over there. You stay here. When we get home, Daddy will buy you roast chicken!"
Upon hearing that there was roast chicken, Zhou Zhuangzhuang was full of enthusiasm.
"Hey, what are you doing?" The village chief had just looked down when he saw two people acting suspiciously in the wheat field. They must be thieves.
He shouted, "Come on, catch the thief!"
At that shout, the nearby villagers swarmed over, each carrying a stick.
Zhou Youfu got scared and tried to slip away from the other side with his son, but they were caught red-handed by the villagers.
"Zhou Youfu, what are you doing sneaking around like that?"
Zhou Youfu chuckled, "I...I needed to pee, so I came in to relieve myself, just a quick pee, hehehe."
"Bullshit! You're clearly stealing wheat!" someone shouted, coming out with his sickle and the harvested wheat.
Zhou Youfu retorted angrily, "You're talking nonsense! I didn't cut that! I was just urinating!"
The village chief snorted and grabbed his hand. "Do you get calluses all over your hands from urinating?"
"I already have calluses!"
"Then Zhuangzhuang, tell me!" The village chief grabbed the brat. "Tell me, or I'll break your dad's legs today and make you serve his excrement every day!"
Zhou Zhuangzhuang was naturally afraid of this threat.
He cried and said, "It was Dad. Dad said the wheat in this field is growing well. Dad told me to harvest it, and he would buy me roast chicken when I got back. Waaah!"
"Zhou Youfu!"
Zhou Youfu panicked and ran haphazardly, stammering, "I...I...I..."
The village chief angrily retorted, "What do you mean, 'what ...'? The evidence is conclusive. You stole something and you still want to deny it?'"
"That's right, it's really hateful. If it weren't for that girl from the Zhou family who summoned rain to make the wheat in the fields grow, we wouldn't know what to do in this drought year. Instead of being grateful, he kicked us when we were down!"
"Tie him up and hand him over to Dawei. Zhou Youfu is too wicked; he must not be spared!"
The villagers dragged Zhou Youfu to the Zhou family home. Zhou Dawei was furious and locked him in a dark room, starving him for a long time. If it weren't for his upcoming marriage, he would have definitely taught this old rascal a lesson!
When Qin returned with Sisi, Zhou Youfu was weakly shouting, "You heartless wretch! How dare you treat your second uncle like this! You ungrateful wretch, if I die, I'll never be a ghost..."
