Chapter 77 "That thing you did back then, wasn't it?"
He Zhao stomped his foot in anger and said, "Brother! Why don't you care if I'm alright?"
He Jinzhao turned to look at her, examined her carefully, and seeing that she was not injured, his lips relaxed slightly and his expression softened as he said, "It's good that you're alright."
After saying that, he immediately turned his attention back to the girl crying silently in Si Yue's arms, his eyes filled with undisguised worry.
What's wrong?
What exactly happened while he was away?
This morning I was happily telling him that Si Yue was back and we should go out and play together.
Who knew that He Zhao would suddenly send him a message in the afternoon, leaving only one sentence before disappearing without a trace.
He was so scared he almost broke out in a cold sweat.
I was terrified that something might have happened to them.
He inadvertently caught a glimpse of the person on the ground, and his brow furrowed deeply.
"It's you?"
"You still dare to show your face in front of me?"
His voice was extremely cold, his eyes were slightly narrowed, and his expression was inscrutable.
These two sentences have already indirectly confirmed that what Brother Ye said earlier was true.
Song Shiyi's tears fell like pearls from a broken string, her vision blurred, her shoulders trembled uncontrollably, and she couldn't even lift her head.
Si Yue felt heartbroken and gently patted her back, softly comforting her, "Don't cry, it's not your fault, don't blame yourself."
He Jinzhao's brows furrowed into a tight knot, his eyes surging with barely suppressed anxiety and tenderness.
He subconsciously reached out, his fingertips just touching Song Shiyi's trembling shoulder, then paused gently as if afraid of disturbing her, his Adam's apple bobbing violently, his voice hoarse with emotion.
"Yi-yi, don't be afraid, I'm here."
He looked down at the girl's head buried in Si Yue's arms, her thin shoulders trembling like withered leaves in the wind, and his heart clenched in pain.
He had never seen her so heartbroken.
It was just one day that I wasn't by her side.
They actually let themselves be bullied.
Heartache surged through his chest like a tidal wave, almost overwhelming him, while a sharp anger surged up his veins.
He would never let anyone who dared to wrong Song Shiyi get away with it, no matter who it was.
He suddenly looked up at He Zhao, his eyes filled with suppressed malice.
"What exactly happened? Who did this to her?"
He Zhao was startled by the coldness in his eyes, and quickly sniffed, speaking rapidly: "Brother! It's him!"
She pointed at Ye Ge on the ground, her voice trembling with tears. She didn't mention the incident itself, but simply recounted the cause and process of what happened.
With each sentence he heard, the chill in He Jinzhao's eyes deepened.
After He Zhao finished speaking, the air pressure around him was so low that it was hard to breathe. His previously anxious eyes instantly turned icy and fixed on Ye Ge.
Ye Ge now wished he could disappear into a hole; the pressure was just too creepy.
It's even more alarming than the previous two years.
Is this kid a decent person?
You haven't done anything shady, have you?
He Jinzhao slowly took steps, his footsteps making a dull thud as he walked towards Ye Ge, who was still lying on the ground.
Before Ye Ge could react, He Jinzhao grabbed his collar, veins bulging on his forearm, and forcefully lifted him off the ground.
Ye Ge was being strangled and could hardly breathe, his face turning a deep purplish-red. He Jinzhao's face was very close to his, his eyes as deep as a pool of water, and his voice extremely cold.
"If you dare lay a finger on her, I'll cripple you."
He clenched his other fist, his knuckles cracking, about to bring it down, when suddenly a sharp siren blared from afar, growing louder as it approached, piercing the tension in the air.
He seemed not to hear, his hands continuing their movements, until just as his fist was about to strike the man's face, someone called his name.
"Congratulations on today."
"Let go."
The voice wasn't very loud, and it was even a little hoarse, with a slight tremor.
But it made him stop moving instantly.
He Jinzhao slowly turned his head and met those bright red eyes.
The air fell silent for a few seconds.
"Bang--"
He flung his hand away violently, slamming the man to the ground. Ye Ge groaned in pain and couldn't get up for a long time.
He Jinzhao straightened his collar, the fierceness in his eyes still lingering, but he forcibly suppressed his turbulent emotions, coldly glaring at the person on the ground, and gently opened his lips.
"I already warned you last time not to mess with my people again."
"You can't persuade a suicidal ghost with kind words."
"In that case, you should go inside and stay there."
The police car quickly pulled up to the side of the road, and several officers got out and strode over, routinely asking, "What happened here?"
Si Yue helped Song Shiyi to He Jinzhao's side, gently placed the girl's hand in his palm, and said softly, "She's not feeling well, you should go back with her first."
"I'll take care of this."
He Jinzhao held Song Shiyi's slightly cool hand tightly, his fingertips gently stroking the back of her hand. When he looked down, all the fierceness in his eyes disappeared, leaving only a soft comfort. He spoke very softly: "Okay, thanks."
He turned to look at He Zhao, his tone indifferent: "You go with Si Yue, I'll settle the score with you when we get back."
He Zhao was immediately jolted awake, and his eyes instantly became listless as he looked at him.
She pouted, feeling a little unhappy.
Why was he so gentle with Song Shiyi?
He's fierce to himself.
She was not convinced.
But she could only think it to herself; she didn't dare to actually utter a word in rebuttal.
He Jinzhao pulled Song Shiyi into his arms with a slight tightening of his arm, gently patting her back with his palm, "It's alright, I'll take you home."
Song Shiyi snuggled closer to him, her nose brushing against his clothes, clutching his hem tightly and refusing to let go.
Her eyes were still glistening with tears, her gaze moist and jade-like, making one feel tenderness and pity just by looking at her.
She gently shook her head, her voice very soft.
"I'm not going back."
She tilted her head slightly, her eyes filled with emotions he couldn't understand, and slowly said, "I have something to tell you."
He Jinzhao paused, his eyes flickered, and he sensed that something was off about Song Shiyi.
But he didn't think much of it, assuming he was still shaken from the earlier fright.
As for what she wanted to say to herself...
He had some idea of this.
He pursed his lips slightly and nodded gently.
"Then, shall we go to my place?"
"It's not far from here, about twenty minutes away."
Song Shiyi agreed without thinking.
Her mind was in complete turmoil, and she had no time to think about anything else, nor did she care that the two of them were going to be alone in a room together.
She had a lot of questions she wanted to ask He Jinzhao.
Why did he help her in the first place?
Why not tell her?
Why didn't you admit it when she asked?
And why suffer such painful punishment for her sake?
They remained silent the entire way.
The fingerprint lock was unlocked, the handle was turned, and after Song Shiyi stepped inside, the door clicked shut.
He Jinzhao lives in a large, single-level apartment. The space is very large, and the decoration is in a cool color scheme, making it look very uninhabitable.
Song Shiyi glanced at it briefly and then looked away.
"Please sit down, I'll pour you a glass of water."
He Jinzhao had just taken a step when he felt his fingers being gently pulled.
He paused slightly, looked down at the girl in front of him, and spoke in a deep, gentle voice.
"What's wrong?"
Upon hearing this voice, Song Shiyi instantly lost control of her emotions.
She suppressed the stinging sensation in her nose, her eyes misty with tears, and softly asked the question.
"Was it you who did that back then?"
