Chapter 37 "You are unique".
Shen Yanci watched them silently. Their conversation was not deliberately lowered and clearly reached his ears.
He lowered his eyes, chewing his food absentmindedly, finding it tasteless.
There was a little incident during the meal.
It was when He Jinzhao was introducing himself to Song Shiyi's roommates.
With a gentle smile, he politely said, "Hello, nice to meet you, He Jinzhao. Please feel free to ask if you need any help in the future."
Looking at his face, Pei Rui suddenly had a flash of insight and realized something.
"You wouldn't happen to be the academic genius my grandpa was talking about, would you?"
He Jinzhao: "?"
Who is your grandfather?
Pei Zongkan.
He Jinzhao paused, somewhat surprised, and then laughed, "So you're Professor Pei's granddaughter."
This statement directly confirmed the answer to Pei Rui's question earlier.
Yu Wenjun clicked her tongue in amazement, "Tell me, they all have one nose and two eyes."
How can someone be both good-looking and intelligent?
There were four people like that at this table.
She's really about to break down.
Song Shiyi had considered it before, but rejected it because she didn't know about He Jinzhao's early graduation at the time.
I'm not too surprised now.
Si Yue joked, "Let me absorb some of your intelligence, then I won't have to worry about my future research papers."
Xie Lin scoffed, glanced at her, and said as sarcasticly as ever, "You should memorize more laws and regulations instead of doing those useless things."
Si Yue: "..."
Hey, I'm getting motivated again.
The meal ended in a cheerful and fairly pleasant atmosphere.
In the latter half of the story, Shen Yan was called away by Ji Siyu with a phone call. Before leaving, Ji Siyu told Song Shiyi to go home and rest early and not to stay out too late, as it was not safe.
He Jinzhao, oblivious to the situation, laughed and said, "Don't worry, I'm here."
Shen Yanci glanced at him, really not wanting to say that it was because of his presence that he was worried.
"Then I'll be going now, see you tomorrow."
Song Shiyi nodded, indicating that she understood, and told him to hurry over so that Ji Siyu wouldn't be waiting anxiously.
Shen Yanci didn't linger any longer and called a car to head towards Ji Siyu's place.
Xie Lin and Si Yue were all going back to their dorms.
Song Shiyi was going back to the Song family home that evening, so she wasn't with them.
He Jinzhao didn't stay in the dormitory; he bought an apartment near Peking University, where he lives comfortably by himself.
So the two teams parted ways at the fork in the road.
"Be careful on your way back. Xie Lin, keep an eye on things."
Xie Lin nodded casually, waved to the two of them, and walked towards Peking University with the other three.
In the end, only Song Shiyi and He Jinzhao remained, facing each other at the crossroads.
"Let's go, I'll take you home."
Song Shiyi hesitated.
"Are you... going that way?"
He Jinzhao patted her head, "Do I look like the kind of person who would let a girl walk home alone at night?"
Song Shiyi looked completely sincere.
"I can take a taxi."
He Jinzhao: "..."
He gritted his teeth. "Song Shiyi, did you do this on purpose?"
Song Shiyi was inexplicably amused and lowered his head to laugh silently.
Like a cat that's been stealing fish.
She tugged at He Jinzhao's sleeve, her eyes crinkling.
"Don't be angry, brother."
He Jinzhao paused for a moment, his eyes filled with indulgent helplessness.
"Why would I be angry with you?"
"Let's go, it's getting late, we have things to do tomorrow, don't we?"
Song Shiyi nodded.
The two walked side by side on the path. The night breeze gently rustled through the dense green shadows, the cicadas chirped softly, and the temperature dropped a bit, making the stuffy feeling less intense.
He Jinzhao stared ahead, occasionally saying something to her.
Song Shiyi responded to every word, but could only express himself through gestures.
She opened her mouth, but the familiar feeling of blockage forced her to abandon the action.
She pursed her lips, but it still didn't work.
She has certainly seen doctors over the years.
Actually, she could still speak after she was found.
He speaks very little, barely a couple of sentences a day.
Her classmates thought she was mute and didn't like to play with her. She always stayed quietly in a corner by herself.
Over time, she became increasingly silent.
He no longer wanted to speak.
The doctor advised her to maintain an optimistic attitude. It wasn't that she couldn't talk about it, she just didn't want to.
When she feels the urge to speak, she will naturally begin to do so.
When Shen Yanci found out, he tried to cheer her up and coax her into speaking.
But it still had no effect.
After a while, he lost patience.
It's good that they don't talk; at least it's quiet and peaceful.
But what he didn't know was that there was actually one time when she almost spoke up.
only……
What are you thinking about?
Song Shiyi composed himself and shook his head.
He Jinzhao glanced at her a few times, but didn't notice anything amiss, so he didn't press her for more information.
Suddenly, Song Shiyi looked at him and asked him a question without any warning.
"Do you think my inability to speak is a problem?"
He Jinzhao was stunned for a moment, then subconsciously frowned, his face darkened, and his voice contained a hint of coldness.
Why are you suddenly asking this?
"Did someone say something to you?"
Who is it?
He looked over, his eyes darkening slightly.
Song Shiyi was a little confused by his question, not knowing why he would think that way.
She simply wanted to know how He Jinzhao viewed the fact that she was mute.
Or rather, did she cause him any trouble?
"No, don't overthink it."
He Jinzhao looked at her for a few seconds and saw that her expression was calm and there was nothing wrong with her, so he breathed a sigh of relief.
He thought it would be the same as it was in high school.
He relaxed and raised an eyebrow. "As for your question earlier, let's not talk about it now."
"Let me ask you a question first."
Song Shiyi didn't understand what he was up to, so she obediently nodded.
He Jinzhao stared ahead, chin slightly raised, his posture relaxed, but his words struck a chord deep within people's hearts.
Do you need other people's approval?
Song Shiyi suddenly stopped in her tracks.
A hint of unexpected surprise flashed in her clear eyes.
He Jinzhao paused, turned his head to look at her, and said nothing.
She stared blankly at the boy beside her, a strange light flickering in her eyes.
Something seemed to have changed within me at that moment.
What is it?
She didn't know either.
All she knew was that at this moment, she was very grateful to He Jinzhao.
But she couldn't say thank you in person.
A surge of heat welled up in her eyes, and tears misted over them.
He Jinzhao bent down slightly, his dark and beautiful eyes looking directly at her, shining brightly in the bright moonlight, the tenderness in his eyes spreading to the corners of his eyes.
He reached out and gently brushed her reddened skin, his movements soft, and slowly said, "You don't have to please everyone. Even if you can't speak well, you're still better than most people. That's not your flaw."
It's unique.
His voice was low and soft, his speech slow and gentle, so tender it almost seeped into one's heart.
His warm breath gently brushed past her ear, and the heat seeped into her heart from the tip of her ear, making her fingertips tremble.
The night was as dark as ink, with stars twinkling in the sky.
The heartbeats resonated in the stillness.
An ambiguous atmosphere crept in like a drizzle, as if an invisible cloud were enveloping the two of them. Their eyes met, and they slowly lost control.
Song Shiyi first looked away, her eyes wandering, her cheeks flushed slightly, not very noticeable in the night, and even her fingertips trembled slightly as she used sign language.
"Others wouldn't think that way."
He Jinzhao chuckled softly, his expression languid and alluring, yet also heart-fluttering.
"I have no say in what others think."
"At least, for me—"
Their eyes met, and he raised his eyebrows, speaking slowly and deliberately:
You are unique.
Every word struck her heart with unmistakable force.
It is 21:57 now.
She was certain.
She was tempted.
