Chapter 53 Happiness
She practiced in her mind many times, just so that she wouldn't hesitate when she said it out loud.
Song's mother stood there, stunned, staring in disbelief at the girl who was carefully cutting fruit, her lips trembling slightly.
She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
Her daughter seemed to speak.
Was it her hallucination?
After so many years, she finally heard her beloved daughter call her "Mom" again.
She was so moved she almost cried; her eyes were already red.
"Yi-yi, you..."
With a lump in her throat, she struggled to suppress her emotions, her words barely concealing her surprise and delight.
"You're willing to speak now?"
No, it's not possible.
No, it's not possible.
Rather, it's willingness.
She never thought her daughter was a defective person; she just didn't want to communicate with others.
No one knows what she went through during the time she was missing as a child.
It's astonishing that such a lively person has become taciturn and refuses to communicate with others.
As parents, they saw it all and felt even more heartache.
She and her husband didn't want to force her; as long as Song Shiyi felt happy and content, that was enough for them.
If you don't want to talk, then don't.
But unexpectedly, heaven still favored her daughter.
She's willing to open her heart now.
Song Shiyi arranged the cut fruit on a plate, then washed and dried her hands. Holding her mother's hands, she looked into her eyes and called out again with utmost seriousness:
"Mom, thank you."
Thank you for taking care of me and loving me all these years.
Thank you and my father for your understanding and support.
Thank you for helping me grow into such a great person.
Song's mother wiped the corner of her eye, feeling both happy and touched.
"Why are you saying this, child? Don't thank me. You're my daughter, why are you being so polite?"
Song Shiyi curved her lips into a smile, which was sweet and obedient.
Song's mother hurriedly told her husband the good news, and she even kept him in suspense, deliberately making him guess.
"Honey, great news! Can you guess what it is?"
Seeing this situation, Si Yue knew immediately that it must be because Song Shiyi could speak.
This is indeed a very happy occasion.
She patted Xie Lin's arm and said excitedly, "Let's go, let's go join in the fun."
Xie Lin nodded, having no objections.
Si Yue walked to Song Shiyi's side, picked up a watermelon, took a bite, and whispered in her ear, "Does Auntie know?"
Song Shiyi nodded.
Mr. Song was stir-frying something over a high flame, sweating profusely. Without turning his head, he replied, "What's up? Is that celebrity you like having another scandal?"
Song's mother: "..."
She choked, looking at the children's snickering expressions, she pulled Song Shiyi over and pinched his arm in an annoyed tone, saying coquettishly, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Taking the opportunity, Si Yue joked, "Uncle, how can a house collapse be considered a happy event?"
He Jinzhao smiled, standing on the same side as his future father-in-law.
"They must have known he was going to fail, so they were able to cut their losses in advance?"
Mr. Song gave him an approving look, "That's right, you know me."
He Jinzhao smiled shyly.
Song Shiyi couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Mr. Song's spatula stopped moving strangely as he stared blankly at his daughter's smiling face. He asked his wife in a daze, "Honey, did I just hear our daughter make a sound?"
Under his expectant gaze, Song's mother smiled and nodded.
"Yes! This is the great news I wanted to tell you! Yi-yi, your voice is so sweet!"
Mr. Song was so happy he was practically beside himself.
He looked at Song Shiyi expectantly and said, "Daughter, do you mind if we say it again?"
Song Shiyi's eyes were full of smiles as she pointed to the vegetables in the pot and said with a smile, "Dad, the vegetables are going to burn."
Mr. Song was instantly flustered. The huge surprise hit him hard, leaving him a little overwhelmed and unsure of what to do.
Seeing this, He Jinzhao took the spatula from his hand and said with a smile, "You take a break, I'll do it."
Song Shiyi smiled gratefully at him, and he smiled back, gesturing for her to talk to her parents more.
The group gathered around the kitchen, creating quite a lively atmosphere.
Fortunately, the kitchen is quite large, otherwise it would be really crowded.
Looking at Song Shiyi, Song's father nodded, his eyes growing increasingly moist. With tears in his eyes, he said with relief, "Good, good."
Song Shiyi took out a few tissues and wiped his sweat, saying gently, "Dad, please don't... get agitated."
Mr. Song took the paper from her hand and said, "I'm not excited. I'm covered in cooking fumes. Don't touch it, or you'll get covered in them too."
Song Shiyi was somewhat helpless; it had lost its flavor.
Seeing this scene, Song's mother's mouth was practically stretched to her ears; today was definitely the happiest day for their family.
Life is ordinary, with occasional little surprises; harmony in the family brings prosperity.
That was her biggest wish.
Mr. Song waved his hand and spoke with great pride.
"On this auspicious day, I've made up my mind!"
"Everyone's salary will be doubled, plus bonuses, everyone gets one!"
Everyone cheered happily, and the entire villa was filled with a joyful atmosphere, which was so delightful that it made one's heart ache.
Si Yue cheered along, "Yay! Yay!"
Xie Lin asked, puzzled, "You didn't do anything, so what are you happy about?"
Si Yue glanced at him and chuckled.
"What do you know? We need to create a good atmosphere, okay?"
Xie Lin: "..."
He really doesn't understand.
However, he glanced around at everyone and saw that almost everyone had a genuine, happy smile on their face, which was quite rare.
At least, his family never did.
There has never been such a warm, cozy, and harmonious atmosphere.
Every day is cold and lifeless.
Just as he was lost in his thoughts, Song's father suddenly patted him on the shoulder and smiled kindly.
"You four get one too, I'll give you all a big red envelope!"
Xie Lin was stunned for a moment, not quite able to react.
Si Yue, who was standing next to him, smiled sweetly and immediately said with a beaming smile, "Thank you, Uncle and Aunt, you're too kind of me."
Song's mother tapped her forehead and teased, "You're still shy about going? You're always the most enthusiastic one."
"Oh dear, please don't expose me."
Seeing that there was still no movement beside her, she turned her head and asked curiously, "What are you thinking about? Hurry up and thank your uncle and aunt."
Xie Lin snapped out of his daze, abandoning his nonchalant attitude and adopting a humble demeanor, his tone full of sincerity.
"Thank you, Uncle Song and Aunt Song."
"We're all family, don't be so polite with me."
Song Shiyi looked at them, a faint smile playing on her lips, serene and beautiful.
He Jinzhao cleaned up the kitchen and said to the group, "Dinner is ready."
The three of them consciously brought all the dishes to the table.
The color is perfect; it looks delicious.
The dishes on the table were mostly prepared by Song's father; He Jinzhao was simply finishing up his work.
Song's mother set out the bowls and chopsticks with him, while Song's father went to fetch the wine he had been treasuring for a long time, saying he was happy today and would have a drink.
The group sat down; the younger people drank beverages, while the elders drank alcohol.
Song's mother was also a wine lover. She drank quite a lot when she was young, but she has become more restrained as she got older, though she still enjoys a small drink from time to time.
He Jinzhao couldn't resist Song's father's enthusiastic recommendation, so he brought Xie Lin in as well, leaving only Si Yue and Song Shiyi drinking juice.
Mr. Song raised his wine glass, and everyone stood up to listen to him speak.
"Uncle, thank you for taking care of my family. If we have caused you any trouble, please forgive us."
He Jinzhao glanced at the girl opposite him and chuckled, "Uncle Song, you're too kind. As a friend, it's only right that I take care of her."
Si Yue chimed in, "That's right, that's right."
Xie Lin nodded as well.
Song Shiyi smiled but didn't say anything.
Song's mother patted her head affectionately and said gently, "Alright, let's stop being so formal and eat."
The clinking of glasses in the air created a crisp, porcelain-like sound, accompanied by the laughter and playful banter of the crowd. The butlers and servants waiting nearby couldn't help but smile at the scene.
It sounds like happiness, and it looks like it.
The moonlight was deep, and the stars were scattered everywhere.
There could be no better moment than now.
