Chapter 6: The Jin Family

Chapter 6: The Jin Family

"Let's go see grandpa and grandma first!"

She can pick any time to go shopping. Tomorrow is a weekend, so why not go to grandpa's house while dad is on break?

She missed the old man, but she had been so absorbed in studying these days that she hadn't had time to make it through the month.

Wu Jingzhong and Jin Yu are both office workers with fixed working hours, and the time they can go back to her parents' home is mostly weekends and holidays.

Wu Tong grew up in his grandmother's house since he was a child. After Wu Tong was born, the old lady Wu at the Wu family made an excuse that she had to help her eldest son take care of her grandson and could not leave, so she refused to take care of Wu Tong.

It is a token of their kindness for the elderly to help take care of the child. If they don’t, the couple can’t complain, right? Wu Jingzhong and Jin Yu have to support their family, so they certainly can’t give up their jobs to take care of the child at home. Jin Yu was taken care of by her own mother during the confinement period. After the confinement period, the couple discussed and considered and decided to squeeze out some money and hire an aunt to help take care of the child while they were at work.

When Grandpa Jin Yongqing found out, he scolded his daughter and son-in-law for being so naughty and treating them as outsiders. He took his wife and took Wu Tong, who was only one month old, back to the Jin family to take care of her. The in-laws didn't care about their granddaughter, but they did. They took care of her until she finished kindergarten and went to elementary school, the same school as Jin Yu, before taking her home.

In that memory, after she refused to go to school and went out to work, her grandparents were worried that she would have a hard time living in another place, so they secretly gave her money and told her to take good care of herself.

The Jin family lives in the southeast of the county. Their house is their own old house plus the homestead sold to them by their neighbor. On this basis, they built a new three-story building, and they have lived there for ten years.

There are yards in front and back, it couldn't be more comfortable. Jin Yongqing was impatient to live in a residential building, thinking that it was not as popular as here, where old neighbors were everywhere.

The old couple of the Jin family were old workers in the county machinery factory. They were absolutely of good family background in that special era. Jin Yongqing was a seventh-level fitter and was also a well-known master chef in the factory at that time. He could hold his head high wherever he went.

Unfortunately, most of the state-owned factories were not doing well, and they were also caught up in the wave of layoffs. Jin Yongqing was a decisive person, believing that there is always a way out, so he took the buyout salary for his family of four and opened a car repair shop.

Both the father and son of the Jin family have skills and are generous. As their economic conditions are getting better and better, the auto repair shop that they used to make a living has now become a repair center with four open rooms. In the county town, they live a good life.

In recent years, Mr. Jin has retired to the second line and handed over the family business to his son Jinyuan. Jinyuan is in his prime and is planning to move further into the automobile 4S store.

Teacher Jin Yujin is the eldest of the two siblings in the Jin family. He was admitted to the Zhongyuan Normal University, where he received a subsidy from the state and was assigned a job after graduation to teach at the county primary school.

He has a younger brother who is two years younger than him, Jin's uncle Jin Yuan. Jin Yuan got married early and has only one son. Wu Tong's cousin Jin Xin is two years older than Wu Tong.

This is because Teacher Jin got married late after entering the normal school. Even if the marriage and childbearing went smoothly, Wu Tong was still a step late.

······

"Grandpa."

When Wu Tong's family of three arrived at Jin's house, Jin Yongqing was sitting at the stone table in the yard, drinking tea slowly from a teacup. The grape trellis above his head was half-hidden with green leaves, and bunches of purple grapes were hanging on the branches, looking particularly lively and tempting.

This grape tree has lush branches and leaves. It was planted after the new house was built. Old Man Jin takes good care of it. Now it is the peak fruit-bearing season. Wu Tong had tasted the grapes sent by his grandfather before, and they were very sweet.

"Oh, my precious granddaughter is here. Grandpa just picked some grapes for you and washed them. Come and have some!" As soon as he saw the family of three coming in, Jin Yongqing smiled immediately. He put down the teacup, stood up and greeted his precious granddaughter.

Yes, in the Jin family, Wu Tong has always been treated as the eldest granddaughter. In the words of Old Man Jin, there are only these two children in the family, and there are no outsiders in our family. He sneered at the words granddaughter and nephew.

"Grandpa, I miss you. Where's my grandma?" Wu Tong walked up to the old man with a smile, and hugged his grandfather's arm.

"Really? I don't think so. You heartless kid. You haven't come to see grandpa for a month!" Old man Jin pretended to be unconvinced. In the past summer vacations, this child would stay here for most of the summer vacation, and the rest of the time he would go back and forth between the two places.

This summer, he didn't show up for a month. If he hadn't asked his daughter and found out that she was motivated and studying hard, he would have gone to pick up his granddaughter in person.

"Your grandma is in the house. It's hot outside. Let's go inside."

"Grandpa, I'm just trying to make up for my loss. I didn't pay enough attention before and fell behind in a lot of lessons. I couldn't even do the questions, so I spent more time to consolidate the lessons I missed. I'll be a sophomore in high school at the start of the school term, and if I don't pay more attention, I won't be able to keep up with the classes!" Wu Tong spoke the truth without making excuses for his previous mischief.

"My eldest granddaughter has worked hard in her studies. Grandpa got a big silver carp early this morning and raised it in the backyard. I will make you your favorite boiled fish today to nourish your body."

Old man Jin was an open-minded and knowledgeable man. He never stopped his children from making progress and treated them equally. When his eldest daughter was admitted to university, he was more proud than anyone else. As for his youngest son, he beat him up and made him finish high school. Since he really didn't have the ability to pass the college entrance examination, he took him to learn a craft and didn't let him go out to mess around, so that he could have a skill to support his family.

"My Miss Tongtong finally remembered that you have an uncle who is waiting for you. He has been waiting for you so long that the flowers are about to wither!" Hearing the noise, Jin Yuan came out from the living room with a smile.

Wu Jingzhong had called them in advance and told them that they would be coming over. Jin Yuan deliberately did not go to the store today and waited at home.

He is a typical northern man, tall and big, he started out as a car repairman, and has experienced a lot over the years, so he looks particularly strong. He also caught up with the reform and opening up in the 1980s, and wanted to keep up with the trend of the times and become a fashion trendsetter, but unfortunately, his old father was strict and hit him with a big stick, so he was extinguished before he could even lift his tail.

However, he still retains his cheerful and playful personality, which can be seen from his outfit today. The pink polo shirt, off-white casual pants, and sports sneakers are really amazing, especially in a small county like theirs that has not yet developed. If he goes out with this outfit, he will definitely turn heads.

"Uncle, no one tied your feet and stopped you from coming to my house to see me!" Wu Tong held her grandfather's arm. With someone's support, she was very bold. She wrinkled her nose and glanced at her uncle who didn't behave properly. She and Jin Yuan were used to being disrespectful to each other.

"Oh my, why is my heart so painful? It's getting cold in the autumn. How come this little cotton-padded jacket is leaking out before I even put it on?" Jin Yuan was a bit of a show-off. When Wu Tong started talking, he immediately became eager to perform and acted like Xi Shi holding her heart. The burly man pretended to be delicate, which was really eye-catching.
