Chapter 92 Skylight

On the day Wu Tong arrived home, the twin prime conjecture was proved and the special issue of Annals of Mathematics was published worldwide. Suddenly, it was like dropping a depth bomb on the international mathematics community again, and shock waves spread from the inside out across the world.

South Asia, Borneo, Hydra.

In a pre-booked hotel conference room, members assigned by the International Union of Mathematicians who arrived here in advance were busy and making preparations in an orderly manner.

Although the 26th International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM-2010) will not be officially held for another month, every successful conference is not achieved overnight, and it is common sense to prepare for it several months in advance.

The International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), initiated and organized by the International Mathematical Union, is the largest event in the international mathematics community, with a history of over a hundred years. The first congress was held in Zurich in 1897. After the Paris Congress in 1900, it was decided to be held every four years, and it has never been interrupted except during the two world wars.

This year marks the 26th edition of this international mathematician gathering.

As the highest-level academic conference in global mathematical sciences and the largest and highest-level event in the international mathematics community, the conference focuses on academic exchanges and awards the Fields Medal, Chern Medal, Gauss Medal, and Nevanlin Prize.

At each conference, mathematicians who have made outstanding achievements in the past four years are invited to introduce important progress in various directions in related fields.

Being invited by the International Congress of Mathematicians to give a 1-hour and 45-minute report is naturally a great honor, which shows that the work of the inviter has a great impact internationally.

It is a special honor to be designated to give a one-hour report. The reporters are undoubtedly some of the most outstanding mathematicians today, and many of them are even past or future Fields Medal winners.

The invitees are appointed by the International Mathematical Union and determined by a program committee composed of world-renowned mathematicians.

As the meeting approached, most things had been settled, and the final submission dates for the reports of the procrastinators had been basically determined. The committee members responsible for finalizing the arrangements for the meeting were still in a relatively relaxed mood and could even take a break to check out the latest developments in the mathematics community.

Only one person exclaimed,

"Oh my God, a proof of the twin prime conjecture? A special issue of the Mathematical Yearbook. Oh my God... That genius little girl from the Oriental Pearl Tower has created another miracle. She actually solved the twin prime conjecture. Oh my God... She's only sixteen years old. I'm still chasing Lina, racking my brains to write love poems for her, and high school math is as hard as shit. This little girl actually solved another mathematical conjecture... Oh my God! This world is crazy!"

"Another damn enviable genius, another Tao? It's a pity that she didn't make it to this year's Mathematician's Congress and can only wait for the next one! When the Mathematical Yearbook was published in May, all the speakers had been confirmed, otherwise we would have witnessed this young child step onto the stage of the Mathematical Congress this year!" The companion leaned over to take a look, and after being equally shocked, he shrugged and spoke regretfully.

"Even if it's the next class, this young genius is only twenty years old. Isn't it enviable to still be young at twenty?"

In the conference room, everyone was discussing and sighing.

Ding-a-ling...

The phone rang, and when Alvin, the conference organizer, answered the phone, he jokingly grumbled to his companions, "Look, Professor Berg is here again to confirm the specific arrangements for his conference and his treatment!"

However, as the call was connected, Alvin's expression changed from humorous to irritable under the hurried and flustered report from the person on the other end.

"What? Professor Berg was taken to the hospital by his beloved dog? A huge Caucasian Shepherd Dog? With a broken leg?"

"Oh my God!" After the call ended, Alvin covered his forehead with his hands, looking like he had a headache. "Did someone's brain get eaten by that big dog?"

"What's wrong? Alvin, what's going on with Professor Berg?" Seeing his colleague and boss looking clearly amiss, he couldn't help but ask. You know, with the meeting so close, if something went wrong, it wouldn't just be Alvin who would be busy, but everyone present would be frantically fixing it.

"Haha... Our dear Professor Berg was dragged down by his beloved dog, a tall Caucasian Shepherd Dog, while walking his dog this morning. He suffered a broken leg and a broken arm and will need to rest in bed for at least six months. That's the same as our meeting, where the 45-minute presentation was interrupted!

Ah shit... Damn dog, Berger is asking for death, why doesn't he raise a man-eating tiger? " Thinking about the crazy work they will have to do next, screening the world for suitable mathematicians, inviting them, chasing them for manuscripts, he can't help but go crazy!

"Poor Professor Berger! Let's mourn for him!" The questioner couldn't help but look on with a look of annoyance. "Has anyone else this year, or in the past two years, achieved such remarkable results, outstanding enough to give a 45-minute presentation at a mathematician's congress?"

When they calculated the amount of work they would have to do repeatedly, many of them looked overwhelmed. They had just gotten over the stress of chasing manuscripts.

Which of those great people is easy to get along with? The king of delaying submission is just an ordinary person.

"A major and outstanding achievement, the proof of the twin prime conjecture, does this count?" The person who just exclaimed pointed to the special issue on the proof of twin primes that had just been opened on the screen.

"There probably hasn't been a more significant new advancement in mathematics this year!" It's just that this child is so young that it's amazing!

With only one month left until the opening of the conference, they don’t have much time to waste!

"I'll go report to the president!" Alvin spread his hands in frustration. He had no other choice. Thanks to this rising star in the mathematics world this year, he should be able to fill a perfect window for his skylight.

On July 20th, Wu Tong was talking to his family when his phone rang. He glanced at it and wondered if it was an overseas call or a scam? He hung up immediately and blocked the call.

After a while, Wu Tong's phone rang again.

Had she stumbled upon a scam today? With such persistence, Wu Tong thought the caller had simply changed their number and called again.

However, the caller ID on the phone screen made Wu Tong pause before hanging up the phone.

Professor Zhou Wenping's call? Is there something going on at school? Why is Professor Zhou calling her?

She didn't delay and gestured to Teacher Jin and Ms. Xu to answer the phone, and Wu Tong answered the call.

"Good morning, Professor Zhou!"

"Good morning, classmate Wu Tong. Are you wondering why I called you?" Zhou Wenping greeted him with a smile. Usually, Li Yishen was responsible for contacting Wu Tong, and today he called suddenly, which must have left the classmate confused!

"Professor Zhou, I'm honored and happy to receive your call!" Wu Tong didn't know what to say. He could only smile shyly. Could he say, "Professor, you have said everything I wanted to say?"
