Freshness
Ye Meiyan took out a crystal diamond hairpin from her bag and pinned it on her hair, returning to her usual elegant and calm demeanor.
As she set out on the road out of the school, her footsteps, which were slightly more cheerful than usual, showed that she was in an unconcealable good mood.
A low-key black car was parked on the road outside the school gate. It had been silent in the night for who knows how long. She walked up to it familiarly and tapped on the car window with her knuckles.
Facing the driver's puzzled look, she said, "You go back first. I'll take a taxi tonight."
The driver looked at Ye Meiyan's back as she turned around and left without hesitation, wanting to say something but hesitant. He waited there for ten minutes, but the girl showed no sign of regretting.
He didn't step on the accelerator until the other person's figure gradually disappeared into the flowing crowd.
Ye Meiyan, who was walking on the other side of the street, did not immediately choose to take a taxi. She strolled on the street at a leisurely pace.
The road was lined with various goods sold by small vendors, and she stopped in front of an old lady.
"Grandma, how much is this?" The flowers held in her hands were decorated with colorful small bulbs. The bright light shone on her face, revealing a hazy beauty.
"Twenty." The old lady put down the woolen toy she was knitting and greeted the guests kindly.
"Okay, I'll take it." Ye Meiyan took out the banknotes from her bag. Before she handed it over, another large hand took the money and stuffed it into the old lady's hand.
She paused for a moment, without looking up, and put the money back into her bag.
She picked up the flowers and turned to leave. The boy who was paying the bill tried to chase her, but the old lady behind him called out to her, "Hey young man, this is for you. Be more patient with your girlfriend."
The boy paused, turned around and took the woolen tiger with a silly face and a round belly. He hurriedly thanked and ran away.
Ye Meiyan listened to the footsteps behind her getting closer and closer, and finally keeping a constant distance from her. She stopped, and the people behind her also stopped.
She turned around, and the tall figure of the boy behind her looked a little cramped.
"Zheng Yuan," she sighed, "we've broken up."
Hearing this, the boy raised his head and said in a buzzing voice, "I know."
"But I don't think you know."
Zheng Yuan quickly looked up at the calm girl across from him and asked, "Is it because I went to your house last time that you want to break up with me?"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gone to your house and disturbed you."
The boy spoke quickly, with a hint of urgency and apology, "I didn't know you didn't like this. I just wanted to ask you something."
Ye Meiyan listened quietly until Zheng Yuan finished speaking, then she spoke: "No."
"I wanted to break up before that."
Zheng Yuan's eyes were red as he asked persistently, "Why? Did I do something to make you angry? Or was it because of my friends' invitations? Or is it because your parents are different..."
"Neither." Ye Meiyan interrupted him, "I'm tired."
Facing the boy's wide eyes, her voice was as steady as ever, "After being with you for three months, the novelty has worn off."
"Ye Meiyan!" Zheng Yuan interrupted her abruptly, his eyes red and his teeth gritted. "How can you say that?"
The three words "freshness" are so hurtful.
"I remember telling you at the beginning that I had three exes, and none of them lasted more than three months. You should be no exception." The girl, who was obviously gentle on the outside, now spoke with a cold sword. "It's time."
"Then...then why didn't you tell me in person before? Why didn't you just send me a text message to inform me that you were unilaterally broken up with?" Zheng Yuanxin was trembling. "I thought we could end it well."
Ye Meiyan looked at him and said cruelly, "I'm sorry, I want to do an experiment."
“Did you get the results you wanted?”
"Got it."
After the words fell, silence spread in the air. Even though they were in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the crowd, the two of them were still separated into their own little world.
Zheng Yuan didn't ask what the experiment was, and Ye Meiyan didn't explain.
"Is there anything else you want to ask?"
The girl stood there holding flowers, the light from her arms shining on her face, making her look soft, beautiful and extremely pretty.
Zheng Yuan looked at her and asked, "Why did you choose me?"
He shouldn't have asked this question, but the scenes of today were still before his eyes, shaking his thoughts every moment, and he couldn't help but think of another possibility.
Ye Meiyan stared at him in surprise, as if she didn't expect him to ask this question.
"I want to hear the truth," Zheng Yuan said, unconsciously clenching the woolen toy in his hand. "Please, think of this as a request from your future teammate."
Ye Meiyan was silent for a long time, and time passed silently. It was so long that Zheng Yuan thought she would not answer this question, but the girl suddenly spoke.
"The first time I met you was on the basketball court. That day, you launched a counterattack surrounded by several boys who committed fouls."
"You won the last goal beautifully."
She still remembers the young man who was sweating and full of vigor on the court. His attack was unstoppable and destroyed the opponent's defense with overwhelming force. It seemed that nothing could extinguish the fire in the boy's eyes.
"I watched the whole thing, but you probably don't remember me." She smiled and didn't care.
That day, she quietly watched the entire process amidst the thick crowd that was increasingly crowded with onlookers because of the excitement, and then turned around quietly and merged into the crowd.
Later, when she met Zheng Yuan for the second time, she decided to pursue him.
"I remember you."
"What?"
"I remember you that day when we played basketball." Zheng Yuan looked into the girl's eyes and said, "We didn't first meet in a restaurant."
Zheng Yuan likes playing basketball very much, or his parents want him to be a sports student. He has talent in basketball, but not that much talent, at least he can't reach the level of joining the provincial team.
Maybe he is better at sports than the average person, but that's all he is good at.
Zheng Yuan thought that innate talents might also be divided into different levels, and he just happened to be a little lucky but not lucky enough.
Every free time is his training time, because he knows that he has to work twice as hard to make winning look effortless.
When he threw the last ball and it narrowly missed the basket, he welcomed the victory with a smile and inadvertently saw a girl turning around.
In the school cafeteria, when the girl sat down on the seat opposite him with her tray, Zheng Yuan was stunned. He felt that God must have heard his prayers.
Ye Meiyan didn't expect that the other party had met her at such an early time and remembered her, but now, those things are no longer important.
She looked at him and quietly extended a hand, "Future teammate, please give me your guidance."
Zheng Yuan looked at her white, cleanly trimmed nails and slowly grasped them. "Please give me your guidance."
As if to put an end to this relationship, the two hands separated as soon as they touched, and Ye Meiyan turned around without any regrets.
She waved to stop a taxi, sat in the car and looked at the rearview mirror. The boy in the mirror was moving backwards.
She withdrew her gaze, lowered her head to open her cell phone, and reported to her family that she was safe.
The night outside the window mixed with bright light strips passed by quickly. Ye Meiyan relaxed her body and leaned back in the chair, gradually becoming lost in thought.
When the car took her home, all the lights in the living room were on and the whole house was brightly lit.
Ye Chengli was sitting on the sofa processing documents. When he heard some noise at the door, he looked over.
Seeing it was his daughter, he quickly stood up and took her schoolbag, a smile spreading across his elegant face, "Yan Yan, why don't you let the driver take you?"
As he spoke, he brought the fish soup that had been heating on the stove from the kitchen, "You must be hungry. Come, have some to warm your stomach."
"Thank you, Dad. There was a bit of traffic on that road today. I wanted to buy something, so I asked the driver to go back first." Ye Meiyan handed the flowers in her hand to Ye Chengli, "Here, this is for you."
The flowers were blooming brilliantly, and Ye Chengli happily filled his arms with the bouquet. He plucked the still-bright flowers from the vase on the dining table.
"Don't do that next time. Although Dad is very happy to receive the flowers, your safety is the most important thing in Dad's heart." He emphasized with a serious face and carefully trimmed the branches of the bouquet with scissors.
"I understand, Dad," Ye Meiyan said, sipping the milky white fish soup spoonful by spoonful. "By the way, I participated in the school basketball game. The team is composed of the top students in our grade. If you join, you can get his exclusive study notes, which are said to improve your grades a lot."
"A lot of people are vying for spots, but he only wants five people." She blew away the hot air. The fish soup was fresh and rich in flavor.
Ye Chengli paused for a moment while arranging flowers before continuing, "Did your teacher agree?"
Ye Meiyan shook her head. "Not yet. We are just forming a preliminary team now. Our class monitor will take care of the teacher's issues."
The bowl of fish soup was quickly finished, and she picked up her schoolbag and said, "Dad, I'm going upstairs to do my homework first."
Ye Chengli looked at her back and reminded her: "Don't stay up too late, go to bed early."
"knew."
The nanny quickly came forward and cleared away the dishes. The lights in the living room went out one by one, leaving only a small night light next to the sofa. It emitted a warm yellow glow, shining on the man in deep thought, while the other half of his body was in shadow.
Ye Chengli looked at the number on the phone, hesitated for a long time, and finally did not dial it.
Under the same night sky, far away in another corner of the city, Song Shuang met a very familiar face at the corner, and she couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"Again."
Song Qing straightened his back against the wall, followed the girl who walked straight past him without looking at him, and said in a good-tempered manner, "Xiao Man, you are late for school today."
Song Shuang stepped heavily on the fallen leaves on the ground, making a crisp cracking sound. "Jiang Jiang is forming a basketball team. I'm joining. They're selecting players for the competition after school."
Hearing this, Song Qing teased, "It turns out our Xiao Man can also play basketball."
"Of course I won't. I'm going to be a cheerleader, not to cause trouble." Song Shuang glanced at him. "I'm more self-aware, unlike someone else."
Pretending not to understand her implication, Song Qing praised, "Indeed, Xiaoman, you are particularly suitable for the cheerleading team."
"Song Qing!" Song Shuang couldn't help it after enduring for a long time. "I've told you countless times not to call me by my nickname. Don't you think it's weird?"
The word "Man" in their local dialect means a person with a bad temper and very willful. She feels ashamed every time someone calls her that.
Song Qing disagreed, "It's not strange at all, it's a cute name, and -"
He raised his hand and tugged at Song Shuang's schoolbag, "You should call me brother."
"No, Song Qing, I just shouted, Song Qing, what's wrong?" Song Shuang made a face at Song Qing. She pulled her eyelids with one hand and didn't forget to stick out her tongue.
Song Qing was almost laughing out of anger. Just as he was about to say something, he met the gaze of the girl behind Song Shuang.
"Xiao Man, your classmate Jiang Qing."
"Where? Where?" Song Shuang stopped making faces and instantly returned to normal. She turned around and saw someone and said in surprise, "Jiang Jiang, what a coincidence, we met again on the way home from school."
"Come on, Song Qing is here. I'll treat you to a big meal." She grabbed Jiang Qing and walked towards the restaurant in front.
Jiang Qing was unexpectedly pulled into the restaurant, and she only had time to look back at the person behind her.
Lin Nanyan followed her to Song Qing and greeted him, "Hello, Brother Song Qing."
Song Qing nodded and said gently, "Come in, it's my treat."
In the restaurant.
Jiang Qing sat at the table, next to Lin Nanyan on her left and Song Shuang across from her. She looked around and asked, "What's going on?"
