If not, change it

If not, change it

Dusk stained the sky, painting vast expanses of orange as far as the eye could see. Wild geese nested in the branches, occasionally drawn to the crowds on the ground, ducking down to take a quick peck at the tender green shoots to calm their nerves, their small eyes flicking downwards from time to time.

Jiang Qing stood in the middle of the gymnasium, watching with satisfaction as her classmates showed off their prowess and pulled over heads.

She quietly asked Ye Meiyan: "Which position do you play?"

Ye Meiyan looked at the two boys beside her and said, "Small forward."

Jiang Qing was stunned when she heard this. According to her simple and superficial understanding of basketball games, the forward should be the one charging. She didn't expect Mei Yan to play this position.

"What about you?" she asked the two boys.

Chen Heng raised his eyebrows slightly, "Center."

Lin Nanyan: "Point guard."

She knew the center was the C position, but the guard...

"You're a defender?" Jiang Qing looked at Lin Nanyue in surprise.

Lin Nanyan: "I can do anything."

This statement sounded rather arrogant, and even Chen Heng and Ye Meiyan couldn't help but look over.

Jiang Qing looked at him, then turned around and thought helplessly, let him do whatever he wants, he can play whichever position he wants.

She took two tools, Song Shuang and Wang Huaqiang, who also knew nothing about basketball games, and walked into the noisy crowd.

"I said I wouldn't come, but you dragged me along. Let's break up."

"You've booked the cafeteria for me for a week. You said it, you can't go back on your word. I'll just come and take a look."

"I'll let you snatch my watch, I'll let you snatch it, what's so interesting about a crappy basketball game?"

Two boys were playing tug-of-war over a watch, one verbally attacking the other begging him kindly.

Jiang Qing looked at the mess in front of her with a frown on her face. She held her forehead in her hand speechlessly. As expected, there is no such thing as an easy lunch in the world.

"Ahem, we already have three players on our basketball team. Now we're just short of a shooting guard and a power forward. Of course, anyone who wants to be a reserve player is welcome too."

The girl's clear voice rang out in the empty gymnasium, and the noisy crowd fell silent. After a few seconds, the noise resumed.

"Don't blame me this time. There's no place for me. I'm leaving." The boy who was dragged looked at his good brother and, regardless of the other's attempts to keep him, he resolutely pulled away with a decisive attitude.

Fortunately, Song Shuang stepped forward in time and presented a freshly-made academic notebook to the classmate who stayed where he was, beating his chest and stamping his feet, hating himself for not having enough strength to let the other person escape.

When the classmates saw it, they immediately hugged it in their arms and left with great satisfaction.

Sorry, to be honest, he has no interest in basketball games. He is only interested in improving his scores.

There were many students who were reluctant to be dragged here, but Jiang Qing's actions instantly made most of them leave satisfied. After a while, only three strong men who were dragged here and their introducers were left on the field.

Jiang Qing looked at the venue which had suddenly become much emptier and breathed a sigh of relief. Too many people was also a problem.

She looked at the rest of the group with bright eyes and introduced them to each other. "This is Chen Heng, the center of the basketball team, Lin Nanyan, the point guard, and Ye Meiyan... the small forward."

It is no exaggeration to say that her words dropped a bomb on everyone's hearts.

"Are you kidding me?" Yan Wenbo looked at the girl Jiang Qing was pointing at. "A girl?"

Ma Ning was also shocked, "A girl playing small forward?"

The two boys frowned at their friends who pulled them over. They felt like they were being cheated as this basketball team had no sincerity.

Jiang Qing's mood was not affected at all, and even the tone of her voice did not drop in the slightest.

"Yes, basketball is an all-male sport. Anyone who likes basketball can participate. The school doesn't have a rule prohibiting women from joining the basketball team, so our players meet the requirements."

Yan Wenbo was shocked by her train of thought. Wasn't this the default rule? At least in the previous basketball games, all the players were boys. He had never heard of girls.

Ma Ning's frown relaxed, as if what he said made some sense.

Jiang Qing: "We're sophomores and juniors participating in a basketball game, which is already considered unusual in the eyes of the school. So what's wrong with another unexpected incident?"

"Love basketball until death, regardless of gender."

Even though she doesn't love him, it doesn't stop her from shouting like that.

"Good, well said." Song Shuang shouted and began to applaud, his palms turning red, and Wang Huaqiang followed suit.

The atmosphere group quickly took their place, leading to sparse applause from the surroundings.

Yan Wenbo and Ma Ning looked at each other's hands as they unconsciously clapped each other's hands, looked at each other, and quickly put them down.

Ma Ning said seriously, "I came here because you are the only seniors who have said that you want to form a basketball team. I don't care about your gender. What I care about is the strength of the team members."

He looked at the height and body shape of several people, and finally his eyes fell on the dazzling diamond hairpin on Ye Meiyan's head.

"If this is just for fun, I have no interest in playing house with you. You can't even make it past the tryouts, so why waste your time?"

Although he mentioned everyone in his words, everyone present knew who he was referring to.

No matter who looks at it, Ye Meiyan's slender figure and exquisite dress do not seem to indicate that she is good at playing basketball.

But no matter what Ye Meiyan's level was, this basketball game was organized for her. Jiang Qing thought, with five people on the basketball team, even if it was four against one, if their level was high enough, they could still make it through the tryouts. After all, it wasn't a professional competition.

Her eyes fell on Lin Nanyan and Chen Heng's faces. If these two were not good enough, they could be replaced.

The girl's wandering eyes fell on them, and the two boys noticed that she seemed to be thinking about something.

Jiang Qing said: "How about changing..."

"Let's play." Ye Meiyan suddenly stood up and looked around at everyone. "Basketball is a test of strength. Let's play. If I win, I'm eligible to stay. If I lose, I automatically withdraw."

"Beautiful smoke..."

Ye Meiyan smiled and comforted Jiang Qing: "This is what I wanted to tell you. If I don't have that ability, I would rather not participate."

Seeing Jiang Qing was about to say something, Ye Meiyan interrupted her, "I won't regret it if I try."

"Jiang Jiang, this is a competition," she said.

Jiang Qing stared at the girl's serious eyes, and she suddenly realized that perhaps what Mei Yan needed was a fair basketball game, a competitive competition with a passionate spirit, rather than just satisfying her wishes casually.

If it is not a fair competition, what difference does it make whether you participate or not?

As Ma Ning said, she doesn't want to just play around, if she wants to do it, she will do her best.

"Okay," Ma Ning responded. Only then did he truly take this seemingly fragile girl seriously. "Let's compete."

He turned to look at everyone else and said, "Come together."

Lin Nanyan and Chen Heng had no objection, and Yan Wenbo and Zheng Yuan, the boy standing next to him who had remained silent from the beginning until now, had no objection either.

In this way, a team selection competition was held in the gymnasium with great fanfare.

Jiang Qing and Song Shuang stood outside the line, watching the six people in the field warm up.

Song Shuang took the water handed to him by Wang Huaqiang and took a sip, his eyes fixed on the center of the field. A handsome guy with broad shoulders and narrow waist took off his school uniform jacket to warm up, revealing his full and smooth muscles. Who wouldn't love such a vigorous guy?

She nudged Jiang Qing's shoulder and asked, "Who do you think will win?"

"Meiyan and Lin Nanyan," Jiang Qing replied without hesitation, "As for Chen Heng—"

She clutched the water bottle Wang Huacheng had brought her and shook her head, "I don't know."

Meiyan was her best friend, so she naturally trusted her unconditionally, no matter what was going on. Lin Nanyan was quite modest, and usually when he said yes, it meant he was absolutely certain. As for Chen Heng, she had originally wanted to bring him over because she was attracted by his physique and skills.

After all, he is so tall and fights so skillfully that you can tell at a glance that he is a good athlete, so basketball should be no problem for him.

"Ah, why think so much? If he's not good enough, at worst, we can just replace him as a substitute." Jiang Qing was now concerned about the players' level. Realizing that Ye Meiyan wanted more than just to participate in the competition, she was actually relaxed about the outcome of the match. "It doesn't matter who loses, as long as Meiyan wins."

"If she loses, the next school basketball game will have nothing to do with us."

Song Shuang glanced at her and said, "You really love her terribly."

"Of course, she's my best friend," Jiang Qing said with a smile, "and you too."

"My dear, do you love me?" She smiled and rushed over to tickle him. "Tell me, do you love me?"

Song Shuang quickly dodged, "Love, love, hahaha, go away hahaha."

The two people were laughing and joking, then suddenly stopped at a certain moment and separated seriously.

"What are you doing?" Song Shuang held his chin high and arrogantly tried to murder the other person with the corner of his eye.

"I, I'll take this," Wang Dongduan pointed at the thinner paper behind Song Shuang and said confidently, "I brought the guy in blue clothes on the field."

Song Shuang took a look at what he said, squatted down, and picked up the notebook from the chair, "Here, it's for you."

Wang Dongduan took it in his arms, turned around and left without stopping. He was afraid that Song Shuang would go back on his word. Before he took two steps, he heard a familiar voice calling him as expected.

Song Shuang: "Stop!"

Wang Dongduan was annoyed that his reaction was too slow. He should have come to get it when there were more people around, instead of hesitating and waiting until now.

He clenched the thing in his hand and turned around with determination. He would not return it no matter what the other party said.

He said, “This is my reward.”

Song Shuang didn't even raise his head: "I know."

She randomly picked two books from different subjects, took a few steps forward, and handed them to the other party: "The person you brought has entered the final round. According to the agreement, you can take three books."

Wang Dongduan stood there in a daze, stunned by the unexpected development.

Song Shuang rolled her eyes, "You don't want it?" She pretended to withdraw her hand. Forget it, so as to avoid sending too many and having to make copies in the end.

"Yes, I want it." Wang Dongduan came back to his senses and immediately snatched the paper from the girl's hand.

Song Shuang snorted coldly. It was so pretentious that he had to wait for others to feed him before he reached out.

Wang Dongduan turned around and left with the book in his arms. According to his usual schedule, he should be reviewing his math homework in the room, but he had stayed here for too long.

When he reached the entrance of the gymnasium, his pace unconsciously slowed down. Looking back, he saw the two girls still standing there, whispering something, with smiles on their faces.

"Song Shuang," he opened and closed his lips, and finally spoke, "I found that you are also a good person."

Song Shuang, who was whispering to Jiang Qing, heard Wang Dongduan calling her. Countless questions popped up in her head, "Do you want me to say it?"

Of course she knew she was a very good person.

"But..." Wang Dongduan clenched the things in his hand, "You should stop disturbing other people's study in the future."

He said seriously, "This way, it will be better for you and others, and you will have more friends."

After saying this, without waiting for the other party's response, he turned around and left in a hurry, as if there was an evil ghost chasing him.

"Ahhh, I'm so angry! Jiang Jiang, did you hear what he said?" The bottle in his hand was suddenly crushed with force, and Song Shuang was furious. "I gave him the notes as agreed, but he actually mocked me in return."

"How can there be such a disgusting person in the world?" Song Shuang felt frustrated that he had misbehaved during the argument. "He was running so fast, I should have stopped him right there and fought him for three hundred rounds."

"I heard him," Jiang Qing retracted her gaze from the gymnasium entrance. She blinked and stroked his fur skillfully. "He said you were fine."

Song Shuang jumped up and down: "Not in front, but behind. He mocked me for having no friends!"

Jiang Qing: “…”

This wasn't easy to fool, so she immediately changed her accent and said in unison, "He has no friends! He's just jealous of you having so many friends."

"You're absolutely right," Song Shuang calmed down instantly, and she rushed over, "He's just jealous that I have a good girlfriend like you."

Jiang Qing happily accepted the compliment: "Yes, that's right."

Both of them subconsciously ignored the clear direction of the word "study" that Wang Dongduan mentioned, and were immersed in the touching friendship between their best friends.

Wang Huaqiang was silently picking up the empty water bottles behind them as they huddled together, serving as a perfect background.
