Insomnia

Insomnia

Watching Wang Hong's bedroom door close, Jiang Qing sat back on the sofa, staring at the recorder in her hand in a daze.

When she came back this time, the only information she knew was the murderer's appearance.

Jiang Qing didn't know the answers to these questions: who was he, why did he kill her, how did he kill her, and how to prevent him from committing crimes again.

What's even more terrifying is that without her knowing it, that person knows everything about her and all her preferences.

What is the relationship between him and the senior sister? What is the relationship between him and me?

Everything was so complicated that it made Jiang Qing's head explode. She found it difficult to understand and her fingertips lightly pressed on the buttons of the recorder.

Perhaps, only by going back to the past can all the mysteries be solved.

She wanted to go back to that night, before Senior Jiang Qing died, and investigate everything thoroughly.

Jiang Qing's gaze gradually became firm.

She took a deep breath and was about to press the button when she was suddenly interrupted by a ringing sound.

The phone screen lit up and someone sent her a message.

[Lin Dagou: Go to bed early]

[Lin Dagou: You've been tired all day today. Get some sleep and get enough rest.]

[Lin Dagou: Good night]

Jiang Qing blinked her sore and stinging eyes, loosened her grip, and the recorder rolled onto her legs.

After being reminded, she suddenly realized that she should have a good sleep and wake up with enough energy to face everything.

A day and a night have passed since she came back, and she hasn't had a full night's sleep.

Jiang Qing moved her fingertips slightly, typed the words "Good Night", and clicked send.

She kept hypnotizing herself in her mind and lay on the bed with her eyes closed. She was obviously not thinking about anything, her mind was blank, her body told her that she was very tired, but her spirit was in an excited state.

The person on the bed was wrapped in the quilt, motionless, and only the trembling eyelashes showed that the owner was suffering from insomnia.

After a long time, she sighed, got up and touched her cell phone.

[Ginger Cat: Do you have...sleeping pills?]

Lin Nanyue leaned against the inside of the door, his head tilted back, his long legs slightly bent, one hand on his knee, and the other hand tightly holding his cell phone.

The cell phone buzzed and he opened his eyes, his deep eyes filled with fine red bloodshot.

His gaze suddenly paused when he saw the few short words on the screen.

[Ginger Cat: I can’t sleep.]

Lin Nanyan stood up with one hand on the ground and rummaged through the luggage he brought back from China. His fingertips touched something hard.

It was a small white medicine bottle with a string of English words written on the bottle.

He stared at the medicine for a second, then continued searching until he found what he wanted among the pile of bottles and boxes.

After carefully studying the instructions, Lin Nanyan took out his mobile phone and entered the relevant name on the online shopping platform. The light on the screen shone on the man's face, reflecting the ups and downs of the uneven lines.

He stood up and was about to go out, but suddenly remembered something and turned into the bathroom.

Jiang Qing stared at the screen. The person on the other end didn't reply to her immediately, so she instantly understood that Lin Nanyan had sleeping pills.

But, if Lin Nanyan didn’t have insomnia problems, why would he have related medicines?

Jiang Qing pondered this question until new news came in.

[Lin Dagou: Open the door]

She threw back the quilt, put on her shoes, and carefully opened the bedroom door. The light from her parents' room across the street shone through the crack at the bottom of the door. Jiang Qing became even more sneaky and moved towards the door step by step.

After finally opening the door quietly, she met the gaze of Lin Nanyan, who was wearing pajamas and looking up at her. She quickly put her index finger between her lips, signaling him to be quiet.

She glanced towards the bedroom, her parents probably hadn't noticed, so she carefully closed the door and turned to go up to the rooftop.

The rain outside was pouring down with no sign of stopping.

Jiang Qing stood under the eaves of the rooftop door and stretched out her hand: "Give it to me."

A white medicine bottle was handed to her, with a long string of English letters on the bottle that she didn't recognize.

"me...mela..."

Jiang Qing leaned in closer, trying to decipher the medicine with her limited vocabulary. Luckily, she was Chinese and couldn't read foreign languages, so she happily gave up.

"How did you get the sleeping pills?" she asked.

"Melatonin..." Lin Nanyan uttered a string of words fluently in a low voice, with a special sexiness when speaking the unfamiliar language.

His English was so natural, so natural that Jiang Qing couldn't help but suspect that he was not Chinese.

"It doesn't matter whether I'm in bed or not," Jiang Qing interrupted him and asked suspiciously, "What matters is how you got it. Are you suffering from insomnia too?"

"These are not sleeping pills. Sleeping pills are psychotropic drugs and are controlled by the state. You must get a prescription from a hospital to buy them."

"This is melatonin," Lin Nanyan looked at her with an inexplicably innocent look in his eyes. "It's a must-have item for professionals. Don't you have it?"

Is taking medicine something to brag about? Why did he say it so gloriously?

Jiang Qing felt that the other party was plotting against her, and she had evidence!

"No, I sleep very well and don't need to take melatonin." Jiang Qing always falls asleep as soon as she lies down and has never had any trouble with insomnia.

It was also the first time she realized that insomnia was such a painful thing.

My head was buzzing, my body was exhausted and giving warnings, but my mind was still unusually active, and every minute seemed unusually long.

She closed her eyes and kept hypnotizing herself, but her heart became more and more irritable and uncomfortable uncontrollably.

It was as if some invisible force was torturing the eagle, and she was the eagle being tormented, for a time so long that there was no end in sight.

This was only the second night. If it happened a few more times, she was afraid that she would suddenly die of cardiac arrhythmia at any time.

"Do you have trouble sleeping?" Jiang Qing asked, looking at the person in front of her.

Lin Nanyan: "Sometimes I need it when I work late at night and drink too much coffee."

Jiang Qing was speechless, so she asked him unnecessary questions.

Lin Nanyan seemed not to notice her expression and continued, "Take one pill before going to bed at night. Do not take other medications. If your condition improves, stop taking it. The maximum duration should not exceed three months."

Jiang Qing: "I understand. I'll eat as soon as I get home. You should go to bed early too."

She turned and went downstairs, with Lin Nanyan following behind her.

"Go home, close the curtains, turn off all lights, soak your feet, drink some hot water, and then go to bed. If you can't sleep, listen to some white noise..."

"I see. You're so long-winded."

The corridor was quiet for a while, until Jiang Qing was about to close the door, when she suddenly heard Lin Nanyan calling her.

"Jiang Jiang."

She looked at him in the direction of the voice and hummed a rising "hmm" through her nose.

He said, "You have to be well."

Lin Nanyan was still looking at her. Jiang Qing pretended to smile casually, "Of course I will always be fine."

She closed the door, blocking the man's sight.

Jiang Qing walked into the kitchen. The water made a crisp sound when it hit the cup, and her eyes gradually became lost in the misty water vapor.

They both knew that the next time they met might be when she came back for the third time.

What will be posted next time?

Will things get better or worse?

Jiang Qing didn't know.

All she could do was not think about the consequences and just go all the way.

Water poured into the cup and slowly overflowed.

It was not until she felt a tingling sensation in her fingers that Jiang Qing came back to her senses. She immediately turned off the water dispenser and went to the sink to rinse with cold water.

Fortunately, it was not boiling water, and the feeling disappeared after a while.

Jiang Qing wiped her fingers clean, opened the melatonin Lin Nanyan gave her, and was surprised to find that the medicine was brand new and unopened.

It seems that Lin Nanyue hasn't been troubled by insomnia recently, and the sudden appearance of memories has not disrupted his life.

She poured out a pill, put it in her mouth, and swallowed it with warm water. Then she soaked her feet in hot water, turned off all the lights indoors and outdoors, went to bed, searched for white noise, and set a timer to play it.

Jiang Qing covered herself with the quilt very politely, crossed her hands on her stomach, and closed her eyes.

At the same time, Lin Nanyan lay on the sofa with his eyes closed. The medicine bottle on the coffee table was almost empty, with the bottom barely visible.

There are several English labels on the white bottle, "Zolpidem Tartrate" - Zolpidem, a type of sleeping pill and a psychotropic drug.

When Lin Nanyan opened his eyes again, he stared at the ceiling above his head.

The sunlight gradually climbed from the floor to the corners of his eyes, but it could not illuminate the emotions in the man's eyes, nor could it dispel the aura of decay around the man.

For a long time, Lin Nanyan's eyes moved stiffly, like the cassette tape of an old machine, clicking one by one towards the kitchen.

Lin Nanyan stood up, walked into the kitchen, and stared at the kitchen knife hanging on the wall.

His mind was in a turmoil, something was screaming sharply, and his head started to hurt again.

Lin Nanyan endured it expressionlessly.

He bent down and began to wipe the table, mop the floor and clean the room.

Dust was flying everywhere, and Lin Nanyan could faintly smell the smell of decay in this familiar, old, and dilapidated room.

He lowered his eyes and forced himself to calm down and wait for the result of the trial.

However, instead of waiting for the result, a familiar phone call came first.

Lin Nanyan dropped the rag in his hand and walked over quickly. He put the phone to his ear, but before he could open his mouth, he suddenly heard the girl's terrified gasp.

"He...he killed someone again!"

Lin Nanyue suddenly clenched his fingers and his face turned pale in an instant.

"Are you okay? Where are you? Wait for me, I'll come to you right away, don't be afraid."

Hearing that Lin Nanyan seemed to have misunderstood something, Jiang Qing quickly said, "It's not me. I'm fine. I'm at home."

Lin Nanyan's heart started to beat again, and when he relaxed he realized that he was sweating coldly.

Jiang Qing's heart has been pounding since she answered the phone and she couldn't calm down.

It turned out that they really had a brush with death yesterday.

The man surnamed Li, who killed two people, is really not afraid of killing people.

Jiang Qing murmured, "It's the man from yesterday. He killed someone again."

Lin Nanyue suddenly turned his head and his eyes fell directly on the kitchen wall.

"I'm listening, you talk." His voice was soft, accompanied by the sound of footsteps and the door opening.

Jiang Qing was lost in thought. "I originally thought he killed Senior Jiang Qing because of the hatred between them, but he struck again yesterday, right after he was released from prison. Do you think he simply has a mental illness?"

Lin Nanyan said as he went upstairs: "No, if he had a mental illness, the court would not have been unaware of it, and he would not have been put in jail."

Jiang Qing's hair stood on end. He wasn't a mental patient, but how could he be a normal person?

"He seems to have killed a man named Li Liang." Jiang Qing recalled the phone call with difficulty. For a moment, she felt that she had overlooked something.

"Li Liang...sounds like a familiar name."
