Chapter 66 The Death of Lin Jiaojiao
After clearing out the mutated weasels outside, Lei Bao led his core team members cautiously into the dark workshop to deal with the last few stubbornly resisting mutated weasels.
The interior of the workshop was larger and contained more obstacles, making the battle far more challenging than outside and requiring them to concentrate fully. Roars, bursts of supernatural energy, and the screech of weasels echoed through the empty workshop.
Lin Jiaojiao was also impatiently shoved into the room by a team member, who told her to stay near the relatively safe entrance and scolded her, "Stay put and don't cause trouble." She huddled behind an abandoned machine tool, listening to the sounds of fierce fighting not far away and watching her teammates battle the weasels that darted out from the shadows. Her body trembled even more violently.
She could barely hold the dagger in her hand; the fear of death and that twisted obsession with "awakening" were locked in a fierce tug-of-war in her mind.
Meanwhile, Ruan Ning stood behind a broken wall on the outskirts of the factory, her eyes closed, her third-tier mental ability operating at an unprecedented intensity. Her mental power spread outwards from her like an invisible, enormous ripple, reaching even further beyond the factory's perimeter.
She didn't brutally "control" the zombies, as that would be too taxing and prone to backlash. What she did was a more subtle and covert "guide" and "amplify" them.
She precisely located several small hordes of zombies wandering aimlessly in the wilderness, each horde consisting of about a dozen to twenty zombies. She transformed her mental energy into the finest "bait" and "guide," continuously sending two strong signals to these hordes:
"Food...lots of fresh flesh and blood..."
"Direction...the factory over here..."
She carefully maintained her mental output, ensuring the signal was attractive enough to guide the horde of zombies toward the factory.
Under her continued guidance, the previously chaotic and disorderly movement of these small groups of corpses began to deviate. They growled and staggered, but with a clear goal in mind, slowly converging from different directions like several gray-black streams towards the factory, this "feast" place.
There were a total of sixty or seventy of them. Although most of them were ordinary zombies, there were also a few agile mutants mixed in.
Ruan Ning's face paled slightly; the prolonged and extensive mental guidance had taken a toll on her. But her eyes remained cold and sharp, like a rock.
Inside the factory workshop, the Thunder Leopard team finally dealt with the last stubborn weasel deep inside. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and began checking their loot and their own condition. No one noticed the increasingly clear, low growls coming from afar outside the workshop.
Suddenly, the team member on guard at the door stumbled in, his face deathly pale, his voice distorted with extreme fear: "Brother Leopard! Something terrible has happened! Outside! There are zombies everywhere outside! We're surrounded!"
The workshop fell silent for a moment, then erupted into even greater chaos!
Lei Bao rushed to the workshop door and peered through the crack—he saw a dark mass of zombies surging in from all directions like a tidal wave, their roars creating a chilling noise, far exceeding the limits of what his team could handle!
Among them, you can even see several mutants that move with unusual speed!
"Damn it! We've fallen for their trap!" Lei Bao's eyes widened in fury as he instantly realized what was happening, but now was not the time to investigate. He whirled around, his eyes flashing with ruthlessness and determination, and roared, "Forget about these scum! Everyone! Follow me back to the car! Get out of here immediately! Quickly!"
The instinct for survival overwhelmed everything. Without hesitation, the team members followed Lei Bao, charging out like tigers released from their cages! Lightning, flames, and ice spikes cleared a path, tearing a bloody trail through the horde of corpses!
Lin Jiaojiao, who had been huddled in the corner, saw her teammates suddenly rush out and instinctively tried to follow, screaming, "Take me with you! Don't leave me behind!"
But nobody paid her any attention. One teammate even shoved her roughly, saying, "Get out of the way! Useless!"
Lin Jiaojiao stumbled and fell to the ground, watching helplessly as the Lei Bao squad members frantically rushed towards the vehicles parked outside and quickly started the engines.
"No! Wait for me! Brother Leopard!" she cried desperately, scrambling to catch up.
However, the zombies had already surrounded her, and the closest ones were almost touching her back!
"Bang!" "Bang!" The car door was slammed shut.
"Drive! Drive now!" Lei Bao sat in the lead car, looking at the approaching horde of corpses and the abandoned figure in the rearview mirror. His face was ashen, but he didn't hesitate for a moment.
The vehicle screeched as it hurled tires, slicing through the scattered zombies like an arrow, and charged madly toward the weaker part of the horde, ignoring the agonizing cries behind it.
Lin Jiaojiao was completely abandoned.
The howls of zombies and the stench of decay instantly enveloped her. A cold, rotting hand grabbed her ankle, and with tremendous force dragged her to the ground!
"Ah—!" she screamed in agony, struggling in vain as more zombies pounced on her, tearing at her clothes and flesh, and excruciating pain engulfed her entire body.
In her final moments, as her consciousness blurred and her life rapidly slipped away, she struggled to lift her blood-blurred vision and looked around in despair.
Suddenly, her gaze settled on the top of a broken wall on the side of the factory.
There, a figure stood quietly, seemingly out of nowhere.
It's Nguyen Ninh!
She was dressed in a sharp combat uniform, her posture upright, her face cold, looking down at them from her high vantage point. There was no anger, no pleasure in her eyes, only a bottomless, soul-chilling calm.
It was as if I was watching a play that had nothing to do with me.
Their eyes met.
Lin Jiaojiao's pupils suddenly contracted to their maximum size! Boundless shock, bone-chilling fear, and final understanding exploded in her eyes like a final burst of light before death!
It's Nguyen Ninh!
All of this was designed by Ruan Ning!
This realization, like the most vicious curse, accompanied by the excruciating pain of her flesh being torn apart, was deeply imprinted on the last moment of her life.
She wanted to scream, to question, but only a hissing sound of blood and foam escaped her throat. Her vision was quickly swallowed by darkness, and in her last moments of consciousness, all that remained were Ruan Ning's cold, downcast eyes and the excruciating pain of being devoured by zombies.
I can empathize with you.
She finally tasted the bitterness of betrayal, abandonment, and being swallowed by death in despair.
Ruan Ningjing stood quietly on the broken wall until she was sure that Lin Jiaojiao's figure had been completely swallowed up by the zombie horde and there was no sound left. Only then did she turn around indifferently and disappear behind the broken wall.
The wind carried the faint roar of the factory and the distant sound of vehicles' engines.
The first step in the revenge has come to an end.
Clean, efficient, leaving no evidence pointing to her.
She walked steadily toward the base.
Next up is Lin Wanyun.
