Chapter 105: Trip to Qianxi Village

The New Year's Day holiday came soon after the CET-4 exam. Lu Yang went to his senior's company for an internship, and Jian Yunxi also became busy because their Legal Aid Association was going to Qianxi Village in Hebei to carry out legal education activities.

The bus bumped along the winding mountain road, and the scenery outside the window gradually changed from tall buildings to rolling hills.

Jian Yunxi leaned against the window, the legal education handbook in her hand was a little wrinkled. She repeatedly thought about the questions that the villagers might ask and how to give the clearest and most practical answers.

"Jian Yunxi, are you nervous?" Qin Huan sat in the seat next to him and nervously touched his heartbeat.

"I'm so nervous. After all, this is my first time meeting someone for consultation face to face."

Jian Yunxi thought so too, but she still encouraged Qin Huan: "I believe we can do it. After all, we have observed many interviews between seniors, right?"

Qin Huan felt that Jian Yunxi's smile had a kind of magic that calmed her down.

Many members in the carriage were discussing it, and Jian Yunxi's anticipation reached its peak.

After arriving at Qianxi Village, the sun had already filled this quiet village.

At the entrance of the village committee, villagers who had learned the news early gathered around with curiosity and expectation. Jian Yunxi and the members of the association quickly divided the work, set up a temporary consultation desk, and placed promotional materials.

Senior Lin Yi and senior Ding Qiuya did not come on this trip. It was said that they went to another province to attend an interview.

The team leader was senior sister Xu Zhaodi, the soul of the Legal Aid Association. Jian Yunxi looked at her short hair shining in the sun. She had taken off her cotton jacket and laid it beside her. She was moving tables with her team members, and beads of sweat were dripping down her cheeks.

Qin Huan saw Jian Yunxi staring at Xu Zhaodi in a trance, and waved his hand in front of her: "Jian Yunxi, come back to your senses, you are mesmerized by my senior sister!"

Jian Yunxi glanced at Qin Huan embarrassedly, fortunately the senior student didn't look over here.

Soon, the villagers gathered around.

Xu Zhaodi divided the members into groups, some were responsible for economic issues, and some were responsible for family matters.

Jian Yunxi is responsible for the issue of supporting the elderly in rural areas.

An old lady came to Jian Yunxi with a sad face and told him that her son and daughter-in-law did not support her. Jian Yunxi comforted her softly while recording the details.

The aunt's lips trembled, and her voice was filled with tears: "I raised my son with great difficulty, bought him a house and married him off. Now that I'm old and useless, they despise me, don't give me food, and don't even talk to me properly."

Jian Yunxi frowned and quickly wrote down "lack of life care" and "verbal violence" on the paper. He asked softly, "Auntie, how long has this situation lasted? Are there any other relatives who know about this and can testify for you?"

The old lady sobbed, "It's been almost half a year. Aunt Wang next door always hears them yelling at me, and our village secretary saw me crying alone at the entrance of the village and asked me about my situation."

While recording the key information, Jian Yunxi asked, "Do your son and daughter-in-law have stable jobs? What is their financial situation? Have you discussed the issue of support before? How did they respond?"

The aunt sighed: "My son works in a factory and my daughter-in-law works in a supermarket. Their income is not bad. I mentioned that I wanted them to take care of me more, but my son always gave me a perfunctory response and my daughter-in-law just gave me a cold shoulder."

Jian Yunxi wrote down "Finally OK" and "Communication Ineffective", then took out a tissue from her bag and handed it to the old lady: "Auntie, don't worry, supporting the elderly is the legal obligation of children."

"I will report your problem to the association, and a dedicated legal aid lawyer will contact you later."

When the aunt left, she held Jian Yunxi's hand, her eyes reddened: "Girl, thanks to you, I see hope."

As more and more villagers came to consult her, Jian Yunxi gradually became more comfortable with the situation. Seeing the villagers' frowns lifted because of her help, she felt a sense of accomplishment.

After the event, everyone was exhausted.

The village party secretary brought the villagers to bring them a sumptuous meal, which was all homemade by the villagers. It was simple but very clean.

Xu Zhaodi didn't hesitate to invite everyone to come and eat together.

Jian Yunxi put down the half-organized documents in his hand and gathered around with everyone.

In the bamboo basket, the snow-white steamed buns were steaming hot, and the golden corn-wrapped bread was emitting a rich corn aroma.

In the big bowl, the tender braised pork has an attractive color, and the stewed beans and potatoes have a rich soup.

While eating, everyone chatted with the villagers.

The villagers told interesting stories about the village, and the members shared what they saw and heard at school.

Jian Yunxi saw that Qin Huan was enjoying her meal. She didn't have the airs of a rich lady as she had imagined. She was just like an ordinary person around her, which often made Jian Yunxi forget that she was the daughter of the vice-president.

Jian Yunxi suddenly realized that he had fallen into a vicious circle of stereotypes. Who said that the dean's daughter couldn't sit with them for dinner? Who said that the vice dean's daughter couldn't endure hardships?

Jian Yunxi smiled self-deprecatingly and decided to adjust his mindset.

On the return bus, everyone was tired and slept in a crooked position.

Jian Yunxi looked at the dim light reflected on the car window and gradually felt sleepy.

By the time we arrived at school, it was already very late at night.

Xu Zhaodi asked everyone to go back to the dormitory to rest first and meet again at another time to share what they had seen and heard today.

"After all the records are sorted out, send them directly to the association. Remember to keep a copy for your records."

Everyone nodded and dragged their slightly tired bodies towards their respective dormitories.

Jian Yunxi returned to the dormitory and gently placed the heavy information bag on the table. Although her limbs felt as heavy as if they were filled with lead, she went to wash up first.
