Jian Yunxi and Lu Yang finally chose to fly to Hailar, mainly because the train ride took too long, 36 hours, so they were almost exhausted before they even arrived.
This time when he arrived at the airport, Jian Yunxi rushed to check in his flight ticket and check in his luggage.
"Last time we went to The Hague, I did the whole thing myself. I've learned it!"
Lu Yang could only agree lovingly, but he still felt distressed in his heart. Jian Yunxi had grown up quietly in a place he couldn't see, and of course growth must be paid with tears.
Jian Yunxi had not told Lu Yang before that she lost her passport at The Hague Airport. She only mentioned it last night when they were discussing travel arrangements.
"Luckily it's a domestic trip and doesn't require a passport, otherwise I would be worried."
"What are you worried about?"
“I’m worried about losing my passport again!”
"Again?"
Lu Yang heard every word Jian Yunxi said clearly, and Jian Yunxi had to tell him how his passport was lost.
Jian Yunxi still had her passport with her when she arrived at The Hague Airport, including when she checked in. However, she couldn't find it during security check. She was extremely anxious, and the members of the debate team also helped her look for it, but to no avail.
She was extremely panicked, but forced herself to calm down.
She first called the embassy's 24-hour service hotline and was told that she could apply for a new travel document, but she had to go to the local police station to report the case and then bring the report, a copy of her passport and a photo to the embassy for processing.
Jian Yunxi was ready to change her ticket at that time. She told the other team members not to wait for her and she was going to handle it herself.
Directly in the office of the airport police station, Jian Yunxi explained the situation to the police officer in fluent English. The reporting procedure was simpler than she had imagined. In just 20 minutes, she got the report certificate.
She also searched for the location of the embassy and was about to take a taxi to the embassy when the airport broadcast sounded, saying that a cleaner had found a passport near the check-in counter. The name was: Yun Xijian, and she was asked to go to the lost and found office as soon as possible to claim it.
Jian Yunxi burst into tears at that moment. She didn’t cry when she found out her passport was lost, she didn’t cry when she went to report the case, and she didn’t cry when she thought she might be left alone at The Hague Airport.
But the moment she heard the broadcast, she couldn't stop crying. She thought at that time that if Lu Yang was by her side, she would definitely not be so embarrassed.
"They said it was in the flowerpot behind the check-in counter. I guess I accidentally slipped down there when I was getting my boarding pass."
When Jian Yunxi and Lu Yang were recounting this incident, it was as if they were talking about someone else's business, but Lu Yang knew that it was not that easy at all.
"Yunxi, are you scared? Are you crying?"
When Lu Yang said this, Jian Yunxi started crying again, because she didn't dare to recall her fear and terror at that time. She could finally vent her belated emotions in Lu Yang's arms without having to stand alone in a strange airport, crying in panic.
"Yunxi, I won't let you go through this again!"
At the Capital Airport, Jian Yunxi completed each step and then checked the documents in her hand. Lu Yang's eyes were filled with heartache.
"Yunxi, it's okay. All the documents are in place. Can I take them? Leave your documents with me, too."
Lu Yang's words reminded Jian Yunxi, yes, Lu Yang must be more reliable than me.
When the plane landed at Hailar Dongshan Airport, Jian Yunxi was shocked by the view outside the window - the endless green meadow spread to the skyline like a huge oil painting, which was completely different from the forest of steel and concrete in Beijing.
“It’s so beautiful!”
Jian Yunxi was so shocked that he almost forgot to pick up his luggage.
Lu Yang approached and grabbed Jian Yunxi's hand: "Hold me tight!"
When the taxi drove out of the airport's underground parking lot, Jian Yunxi saw herds of cattle and sheep like scattered pearls on the grasslands on both sides of the road. The white outlines of yurts in the distance were dotted among the green, and the azure blue sky was so low that it seemed within reach.
"It's much more beautiful than on TV..." Jian Yunxi said softly, her fingers unconsciously entwined with Lu Yang's.
The taxi stopped in front of the booked Mongolian yurt homestay. Jian Yunxi jumped out of the car and took a deep breath. The unique fresh air of the grassland filled his chest, mixed with the smell of green grass and distant smoke. When Lu Yang took the luggage from the trunk, the owner of the homestay, a middle-aged woman in Mongolian costume, came out to greet him.
"Welcome to Hulunbuir!" she said enthusiastically in accented Mandarin. "I'm Qiqige. Come with me. I've prepared milk tea and milk tofu for you."
The interior of the yurt was completely different from the yurt they had eaten in before. It was more spacious and comfortable than they had imagined. The floor was covered with colorful handmade carpets and there was a low table in the middle. The milk tea brought by Qi Qi Ge was steaming and exuding a rich milky aroma.
"There will be a bonfire party at 7pm. You must attend." Qi Qige said before leaving. "Now you can take a rest or go horseback riding nearby."
Jian Yunxi's eyes lit up immediately: "Horse riding! Lu Yang, shall we try it?"
"OK!"
"But I've never ridden one before, I don't know how to ride one!"
"Neither do I." Lu Yang held her hand. "It's a good opportunity for us to learn together. I asked around and they have the most docile horses here, and there are coaches accompanying them throughout the whole process."
Half an hour later, Jian Yunxi, wearing the Mongolian robe provided by Qiqige, stood nervously in front of a red pony. Lu Yang had already ridden a white horse, looking majestic.
"Relax, girl." The Mongolian coach said in stiff Chinese, "Grab the saddle and step on the stirrup with your left foot. That's it..."
When the horse began to move slowly forward, Jian Yunxi was so nervous at first that her fingers turned white, but she soon adapted to the rhythmic shaking.
The wind from the grassland blew across her face, bringing with it the scent of grass and wild flowers. She turned to look at Lu Yang and found that he was holding a camera towards her.
"Road network, stop taking pictures! My hair will definitely be a mess." Jian Yunxi shouted.
"So beautiful." Lu Yang put down the camera, his eyes as gentle as the sunset at that moment, "Like a real Mongolian girl."
After returning from horseback riding, the two attended a bonfire party organized by the B&B.
Other tourists and locals held hands and danced around the fire. Jian Yunxi also pulled Lu Yang to join in. Although both of them were clumsy, their laughter was drowned out by the cheerful sound of the horse-head fiddle.
But in a moment, it began to rain heavily. The weather on the grassland is like this, it changes at any time. The owner of the B&B shouted, asking everyone to quickly return to their yurts.
Jian Yunxi and Lu Yang were soaked when they ran back to the yurt. Fortunately, there was a simple bathroom inside, so they took a quick shower together.
The wind and rain outside were getting stronger and stronger, and the yurt was shaking slightly in the wind, but Jian Yunxi leaned in Lu Yang's arms, listening to his strong heartbeat, feeling unprecedented peace of mind.
"Lu Yang," she said softly, "when the rain stops, the grassland will be especially beautiful tomorrow."
"Well, let's go watch the sunrise early in the morning." Lu Yang kissed her forehead, "Then we can go horseback riding, take a lot of photos of you, and count the stars at night."
The wind and rain were still raging outside the yurt. Inside the yurt, Jian Yunxi and Lu Yang hugged each other tightly, looking forward to tomorrow's sun and every day in the future.
