Chapter 18 Winter Vacation

A family of five rushed to the train station with lots of luggage. At that time, there was only one train to the provincial capital, which departed at around 6:00 p.m. and would arrive in the provincial capital at dawn. Comrade Jian Feng very generously bought a sleeper berth.

It was still a green train. After Jian Yunxi entered the carriage, he looked around curiously. This was the first time in his two lifetimes that he had taken a sleeper.

The five tickets they had were for one carriage, so Jian Feng asked his two daughters to climb up one by one, and asked his son and daughter-in-law to sleep on the middle berth. He slept on a lower berth, as the other lower berth was unoccupied.

"Kids, go get some sleep. Although the upper and middle bunks are a little small and uncomfortable, it's better than sitting on a hard bench. I'll stay here to watch over you four."

Jian Feng sat on the lower bunk, reminding from time to time.

"Dad, you should get some sleep too. Otherwise, we will have to take the kids out to play tomorrow and we won't have the energy." Li Meiling felt sorry for her husband.

"Yes, Dad, you should take a nap too." Several children said in unison.

"Okay, I'll just take a nap here."

Jian Feng leaned on the lower bunk with his clothes on. The train was shaking and he woke up from time to time. Seeing that his family were sleeping peacefully, he could also sleep for a while.

"We have arrived at the provincial capital station. Passengers who are getting off the train should prepare to get off in advance."

Jian Yunxi was woken up by her father in a daze, and when she came down, she almost stepped on the person in the lower bunk.

The family of five followed the crowd out of the provincial capital railway station. Jian Yunxi had never seen the provincial capital at that time, and his younger brothers and sisters were also very excited.

They decided to live near the train station for convenient dining and transportation.

Li Meiling lived in one room with her two daughters, and Jian Feng lived in another room with his son. Although the accommodation conditions were rather simple at that time, Jian Yunxi was already very satisfied. As long as the family was together, they were happy.

Jian Yunxi and his family rested for about six or seven hours before starting the first day of their trip.

They first ate Wuhu soup dumplings downstairs in the hotel, and then took a bus to Xuanwu Lake.

Xuanwu Lake is worthy of being called the "Pearl of Jinling". Although it is winter, the scenery is still breathtaking.

There are five islands in Xuanwu Lake. Cherry Island is planted with cherry blossoms, which are in full bloom in early spring. However, Jian Yunxi and his friends came at the wrong season, so they could only see bare tree trunks.

Lingzhou was still a zoo at that time, with a children's playground, climbing nets, swivel chairs and other facilities.

Seeing that several children were interested in the swivel chair, Li Meiling bought tickets for the children to have fun.

In fact, Jian Yunxi had played on a swivel chair in her previous life, but she was not very interested in it. However, in order not to spoil the fun, she still sat on the swivel chair with her younger brother and sister.

The moment the swivel chair started to turn, Jian Yunxi regretted it. God knows, winter is already very cold, and the swivel chair is moving very fast. Jian Yunxi felt her face frozen into ice. Her brother thought she was scared and laughed at her for being timid, but in fact she was just frozen.

At noon, they randomly found a duck blood vermicelli shop. Jian Yunxi really likes it, but she doesn't eat duck liver, so she ordered a portion of pure duck blood vermicelli.

Her mother looked down on it. "What's the difference between this vermicelli and the ones at home? How did it become a special snack?" Jian Yunxi wanted to laugh when she heard it. Ms. Li Meiling was quite foresighted. After all, many famous snacks later had bad reputations.

After a short rest after lunch, the family headed towards the Confucius Temple.

As soon as we arrived near the Confucius Temple, we could feel the quaint and lively atmosphere. Jian Yunxi held the hands of his younger brother and sister, his eyes sparkling.

Walking into the Confucius Temple, there are ancient buildings on both sides. Jian Yunxi couldn't help but stop to watch the various traditional handicrafts.

"Do you like it? If you like, buy it." Comrade Jian Feng waved his hand very generously.

Jian Yunxi wanted to pick out some small gifts for her friends to take back. After looking for a long time, she finally decided to buy a round fan for each of her three good friends. The fan ribs were all made of bamboo and the patterns were very exquisite. Jian Yunxi herself liked them very much.

My younger brother and sister didn't buy any handicrafts. They ate as they walked, trying all kinds of dragon beard candies and sugar paintings. Then they concluded: There's nothing fun in this Confucius Temple. It's either selling specialties or food. Jian Yunxi laughed when he heard that.

"Mist shrouds the cold water, the moon shrouds the sand, and we moor at Qinhuai River near a tavern at night." Jian Yunxi's family also came to the Qinhuai River. The family rented a small boat and slowly sailed into the river.

Jian Yunxi leaned on the side of the boat, looking at the brightly lit ancient buildings on both sides of the river, as if he didn't know what year, month, time or place it was.

The boatman told the historical stories of the Qinhuai River while rowing, and everyone listened with great interest.

The sky gradually darkened, and the lights reflected on the river, like a dream. Jian Yunxi thought to himself that he would work hard to make money in the future and bring his grandparents out for a trip.

The next day, Jian Yunxi and his family went to visit Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum.

It is the mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a great revolutionary pioneer in modern China, and is also one of the important memorial sites in modern Chinese history.

They entered from the main gate of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and began their tour.

Passing through the Boai Arch, there is a tomb passage about 700 meters long with a total of 392 steps. The design of the steps is very clever. Looking from the bottom up, you can only see the steps but no platforms; while looking from the top down, you can only see the platforms but no steps, which implies that although the road to revolution is difficult, the future is bright.

When they reached the end of the tomb passage, Jian Yunxi and his family arrived at the stele pavilion.

In the pavilion stands a huge stone tablet, about 9 meters high, with the words "The Kuomintang buried Prime Minister Sun here" engraved on it.

Behind the stele pavilion is the core building of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum - the sacrificial hall.
