Chapter 25 Food Poisoning

Since Liu Yanran had done well in her final exams, she had agreed with the school to skip classes and only attend exams. The school naturally had no objections. As long as Liu Yanran's good grades were supported by the school and the honors were not lost, it didn't matter.

As the days passed, the Liu Family Canteen's reputation grew. Not only did the students rave about the food, but even their parents gave it a thumbs-up. The canteen was booming, and Liu Yanran, knowing that a large tree attracts the wind, personally supervised the entire process, from preparing the ingredients to cooking.

However, just when Liu Yanran thought everything was going well, an accident happened.

It was a sunny afternoon, the campus filled with the aroma of food. Students were enjoying their lunch in the cafeteria, laughter and conversation filling the air. But then, a terrified cry shattered the tranquility.

"Oh no! Someone's been poisoned!" This cry, like a thunderclap, shattered the tranquility of the campus and instantly plunged the entire school into panic. Liu Yanran's heart tightened, and a sense of foreboding washed over her. Without hesitation, she dropped her work and rushed to the scene like an arrow.

When she arrived, she was shocked by the scene. A little girl lay on the ground, her face as pale as paper, her lips purple, and foam coming out of her mouth. The students around her were terrified, some screaming, others crying, completely unsure how to react.

Liu Yanran's heart sank, fully aware of the gravity of the situation. She immediately calmed herself, organizing the staff to carefully load the poisoned student onto a stretcher and rush him to the hospital. She asked her sister-in-law to accompany her to the hospital, to keep her informed and provide her with timely feedback. She also quickly called the police, describing the incident in detail, hoping their help would lead to a swift investigation.

In this tense and chaotic moment, Liu Yanran demonstrated remarkable leadership and decisiveness. While comforting the other students and trying to calm them, she anxiously awaited news from the hospital. Every minute felt like an agonizing agony, and her heart grew heavier with worry for the little girl's safety.

Unsure whether the student would survive this ordeal, she was filled with worry and anxiety. She also didn't know what secret lay behind the poisoning, and a sense of dread welled up within her. However, as the cafeteria manager, she couldn't let fear sway her. She secretly resolved to uncover the truth, no matter what, and provide an explanation to the students so they could study and live their lives in peace.

At this point, the police quickly intervened and conducted professional testing on the food samples. After a tense wait, the results finally came back, but they were shocking. The little girl's lunch box had rat poison in it! The cafeteria's food, however, contained no harmful substances. This discovery shocked and baffled everyone. Why was rat poison in the little girl's lunch box? Who had poisoned it? These questions shrouded everyone like a fog.

Meanwhile, the hospital also received bad news. Despite the doctors' best efforts, they were unable to save the little girl. Her poisoning was too severe, and she was beyond repair. This news was like a bolt from the blue, plunging Liu Yanran into an unprecedented predicament. She couldn't believe her ears, and tears immediately welled up in her eyes. A young life was gone, and she couldn't accept this cruel fact.

She couldn't understand how such a thing could happen in a cafeteria she had run with such care and meticulous supervision. Was it a deliberate poisoning? Liu Yanran was determined to get to the bottom of this, not only to seek justice for herself but also to give closure to the young girl who had died in vain. Her investigation revealed that the young girl herself was a pitiful soul. She was the same child who had told her she'd never tasted anything so delicious.

Soon, the girl's uncle, Li Tieniu, and grandmother arrived to make a scene. It turned out the girl's fate was incredibly difficult. Her father, Li Tiejun, bravely served on the front lines and ultimately died a heroic death. Her mother remarried shortly thereafter, leaving her, her grandmother, and her younger brother to depend on each other. Taking their unique circumstances into consideration, the organization decided not to reclaim the house, allowing them to continue living there.

Later, the old lady's youngest son came to live with his mother, and the organization tacitly approved of this. He then began reselling vegetables, and the canteen at the family compound, to accommodate the family, chose to use their vegetables. However, when Liu Yanran took over the school cafeteria, she rejected their vegetables because they were not fresh enough. The youngest son then harbored resentment towards Liu Yanran, but she was unaware of this; she was simply responsible for the quality of her own canteen.

Out of humanitarian concerns, Liu Yanran was willing to pay some compensation; it was a life, after all. However, the girl's uncle was demanding an exorbitant 10,000 yuan. Remember, Big Brother Liu was the head of the group, but his monthly allowance was only around 120 yuan. That would take more than six years without food or water. Furthermore, it was clear that the food was fine; it was the girl's lunch box that was poisoned.

"Ten thousand? Why don't you just rob him?" Liu Yanran stared at him with wide eyes in disbelief. She had originally thought that this man would make some reasonable demands for compensation, but she didn't expect him to be so greedy.

"I'm telling you, this has nothing to do with us! We've checked all the food, and there's nothing wrong with it." Liu Yanran said angrily, "Someone must have tampered with the lunch boxes!"

At this time, the police also found an important clue. They found a woman in the vegetable warehouse of the little girl's uncle. After questioning, they learned that she was the uncle's girlfriend.
