Chapter 106 Stepmother
Bai Jing curled her lips, waved her hands twice, and then followed him in.
Jiang Chen naturally couldn't hide her little action from Bai Jing. When Bai Jing couldn't see, he curled the corners of his mouth, indicating that he was in a good mood at the moment.
After taking her to a table and sitting down, Jiang Chen pointed at the blackboard and said, "Take a look and see if there's anything you want to eat. I'll go order."
Bai Jing didn't bother to be polite with him. She looked at the blackboard and saw two dishes she liked, so she just said them out loud.
But there is no reserve at all.
But the more this happened, the more Jiang Chen was attracted by her generosity. His eyes darkened, and he stood up and said, "Okay, I'll go order the food."
The restaurant is not too busy at this time, after all, there is still some time before dinner time.
After ordering the dishes and paying, Jiang Chen quickly walked over and sat down opposite Bai Jing.
"Although it's a bit shabby, I still say the same thing. You can come to me if you have any problems." This time, he handed her the address and phone number he had given her in the morning.
Bai Jing gained confidence and became more determined in her heart: she wanted to pursue him.
So unlike in the morning, this time she took it generously and said, "Okay." with a smile, then put the note he gave her into her cloth bag.
Seeing her like this, the frost on Jiang Chen's face melted away, and he smiled slightly.
"Comrade Jiang, are you coming to town this time just to thank me?" If she remembered correctly, his grandparents had passed away.
He never returned home after that, but because of me, he returned to his hometown again.
"Yes." He agreed directly without hesitation, "But I'd like to take this opportunity to visit the old man."
She knew that the old man referred to his deceased grandparents and his mother.
She didn't know much, but she heard some things about his family from him.
His mother died at a young age due to complications during childbirth, and he was raised by his grandparents.
His father remarried when he was five years old, and their relationship was not close.
Because of his stepmother, his father and he became even more of an enemy. After all, Jiang Chen's maternal family was not simple. Although they didn't have a fortune, they still had quite a bit of assets.
It was precisely because of these things that Jiang Chen became a thorn in the eyes and flesh of everyone in the family.
He rarely went back when his grandparents were alive, let alone after they passed away, he went back even less often.
But even so, his family members still kept thinking about him and plotting against him.
Thinking about what he said, her heart ached. After all, the man in front of her had caught her eyes and heart, so she took him to her side and felt sorry for him.
"Oh." For a moment, she didn't know how to comfort him. After all, all the relatives he recognized were gone.
Seeing that she didn't ask too many questions, Jiang Chen felt relieved. He didn't really like to talk about family matters with others.
Soon their meal was served.
The two of them were enjoying the meal. Bai Jing brought up some topics intentionally or unintentionally, and the two of them were quite harmonious.
In this wonderful atmosphere, a sharp voice sounded in their ears.
"Jiang Chen, why are you here?"
Bai Jing was startled by the sound. She looked up and saw a woman with sunken cheeks and tall eyebrows standing in front of their table.
This woman, about fifty years old, had a subtle cunning in her features. Her eyes were narrow and deep, often emitting a sharp gleam that seemed to penetrate the heart. The corners of her eyes were slightly upturned, revealing a natural arrogance. Her heavy eyebrows pressed down like two sharp swords, adding a sense of majesty and indifference to her expression.
Her nose is straight and pointed, with slightly upturned nostrils, giving her a mean impression.
The lines of his lips were tight, and there was often a subtle hint of sarcasm at the corners of his mouth.
Whenever she spoke, the muscles around her lips seemed to be exerting force, as if she was afraid that others would not hear the sarcasm in her words.
Although her skin looked old, she looked around as if she was full of criticism and dissatisfaction with everything around her.
Looking around, she seemed to be dissatisfied with Jiang Chen's presence here, and she examined everything with her sharp eyes.
The stepmother's face was as ugly as the faded curtains.
Her eyes were fixed on the scene before her, where her stepson was eating at a table with a woman she had never seen before.
An indescribable anger and disappointment surged in the stepmother's heart.
She disliked this woman. Even if Jiang Chen wanted to marry, it had to be her niece. When would it be someone else's turn? When she met Bai Jing's gaze, disgust flashed in her eyes.
"Xiaochen, who is she?" The stepmother's mouth twitched a few times, her hands clenched into fists, and her fingertips turned white.
She suppressed her anger and asked, "Is she your friend? Why hasn't Mom seen her?"
The woman raised her head and gave what she thought was a kind smile. "Little girl, how did you get to know my Xiaochen? Why haven't I heard him mention you before?"
Bai Jing was speechless. What did this mean?
Are you trying to say that she looks down on you?
Or do you want to find out about yourself?
hehe,.
She had never seen this woman in her previous life, but she could tell from Jiang Chen's wooden face that he didn't like her presence.
"Is there something wrong?" Jiang Chen's voice was cold and terrifying. He looked up at the person who came and said, "If you're fine, please make way. We still need to eat."
"You." The woman was shaking with anger at Jiang Chen's indifference. "Xiaochen, I know you don't like me, but I have always treated you as my own son over the years. Why didn't you even go home after you came back to meet this woman?" The woman's face was full of anger and grievance, and her words were even more ambiguous.
Bai Jing was so angry that she laughed, as if she cared about her stepson so much.
"It has nothing to do with you." Without waiting for Bai Jing to speak, Jiang Chen spoke again indifferently.
Bai Jing looked at her hand holding the chopsticks, which had turned white. She knew that he was enduring.
"By the way, auntie, who are you? What is your relationship with Comrade Jiang? Are you his mother?" Bai Jing didn't want to tolerate this person and asked directly.
"If it's Auntie, you don't look happy or excited about seeing a child. Why do you act like you've seen an enemy?"
As soon as Bai Jing finished speaking, the people watching the excitement in the restaurant turned their attention to Jiang Chen's stepmother.
He kept pointing and talking there.
Before the woman could answer, Jiang Chen's voice rang out again, "She is my stepmother. My father remarried her."
"oh."
Bai Jing's eyes became puzzled. "Does she have her own biological children?" In order to prevent others from misunderstanding Jiang Chen, she asked again.
Jiang Chen nodded, "Yes, he's only five years younger than me."
Upon hearing this, everyone understood that the stepmother had met her stepson who had just returned home.
"Then I understand why she was glaring at you like a criminal. So she wanted to ruin your reputation. It's true, they say being a stepmother is hard, but how many truly good stepmothers are there? She also has her own biological son, so I guess she can't treat him equally."
Bai Jing really didn't show any displeasure to Jiang Chen's stepmother.
