Chapter 29: Floating
People say women and children love to compare, but it's true men do too. Men also compare themselves to each other, their wives, children, and careers.
Han Deyi and Wu Anbang are brothers-in-law, married to the daughter of the same family, and they often compare themselves intentionally or unintentionally. In the past, Han Deyi was in the army, with honors and allowances, which Wu Anbang naturally could not compare with.
But now Han Deyi is a farmer, and Wu Anbang has become an enviable and knowledgeable truck driver. Although Han Deyi is not jealous of him, he feels uncomfortable.
"What do you think?" Han Deyi asked Gu Jianguo. The two had been friends for many years and naturally understood each other. When Gu Jianguo asked about Wu Anbang, Han Deyi knew that Gu Jianguo no longer wanted to be content with the status quo.
Gu Jianguo lit another cigarette for himself and said, "Find some time to talk to Wu Anbang, and go out and take a look after the crops are planted." He didn't know what to do for a moment.
Han Deyi had a similar idea as him. Neither of them was the type to drag things out. After the matter was finalized, they decided to go find Wu Anbang tomorrow. It just so happened that he was still at home and had not returned to the city.
When Gu Siqing knew that Gu Jianguo had gone to the Han family, she felt secretly excited, thinking that their family might be about to undergo a change.
"Xiao Si, what good news have you got? You look so happy." Gu Erhui came over to ask when she saw Gu Siqing grinning while washing her feet.
Gu Siqing didn't answer her, but asked her: "Second sister, what kind of life do you want to live in the future?"
Gu Erhui was taken aback by her question. She had certainly envisioned her future life. However, she was a realistic person. Her ideal life was to find an honest and capable man to marry and live in harmony with her family.
But every time she thought about such a life, she always felt a little unwilling, but she couldn't explain what she was unwilling about.
"What are you thinking about every day in your little head?" Gu Erhui patted Gu Siqing's head gently, then went to bed. Gu Yimin was sitting at the head of the bed knitting a sweater, and Gu Sanjing was lying in bed reading a picture book.
Gu Siqing poured the foot washing water and came back to bed. She got into her own bed and looked at Gu Erhui and said, "Second sister, I think you will definitely make a lot of money in the future."
Gu Erhui suddenly laughed, "You have confidence in me!"
"Of course," Gu Siqing turned and said to Gu Yimin who was knitting a sweater, "Big sister will live a good life in the future."
Gu Yimin stopped what he was doing and smiled, "Then I'll lend you my good wishes."
"What about me? What about me?" Gu Sanjing sat up from the quilt and looked at Gu Siqing and asked.
"You can eat whatever you want in the future." When they have money, they can eat whatever they want.
Speaking of delicious food, Gu Sanjing gulped and said, "I hope that day will come soon."
This made Gu Yimin and Gu Erhui laugh.
Gu Yimin put down the sweater in her hand, saw that her three sisters were asleep, reached out to turn on the light, and the room suddenly became dark. Gu Siqing thought that perhaps it would not be long before their family would undergo earth-shaking changes.
Gu Erhui looked at the dark night and thought of Gu Siqing's words, and couldn't help but smile. Make a lot of money! Who doesn't want to? But how to do it? She had a strong desire in her heart, wanting to rush forward, but she didn't know how.
Gu Yimin closed her eyes and saw that tall figure. She thought of him every day these days. If she had him in her future, it would be great.
Gu Sanjing closed her eyes and fell asleep soon after. In her dream, a bunch of delicious food surrounded her, and she felt so happy that she seemed to be flying.
As long as you have a dream, change may have already begun.
The next day at breakfast, Gu Siqing secretly observed Gu Jianguo's expression, but she couldn't see anything. However, she didn't get discouraged. If it didn't work this time, she could try again next time.
After dinner, Gu Jianguo rode his bicycle to meet Han Deyi and went to find Wu Anbang together.
When they arrived, the Wu family was having dinner. Wu Anbang finished his meal leisurely and led the two of them into the living room. After sitting down, he crossed his legs and stretched out two fingers, indicating that Han Deyi should pass him a cigarette.
Gu Jianguo looked at Han Deyi: You, my brother-in-law, are getting cocky!
Han Deyi smiled and took out an unopened pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He tore it open, took out a cigarette and handed it to him, lit it for him, and then put the whole pack of cigarettes next to him.
Wu Anbang seemed very satisfied with Han Deyi's tact. He took a puff of his cigarette and said, "We are all relatives. If you have anything to say, just tell us directly."
Han Deyi smiled and said, "Aren't you going to the south to do transportation? We want to know the situation in the south."
"The South! It's a hundred times, a thousand times better than here. There are opportunities to make money everywhere. I tell you, as long as you go there and bring back some goods, you will definitely make money..."
Half an hour later, Gu Jianguo and Han Deyi came out of Wu's house and left the village. Gu Jianguo said, "Your brother-in-law is not honest."
There must be a lot of truth in what Wu Anbang said. He said there were opportunities to make money everywhere in the south, and that as long as you bring back goods, you can make money. He was just kidding!
Even though he had never done business before, he knew it wasn't easy traveling to the south to get goods when he was unfamiliar with the area. What goods should he sell? Where should he get them from? Would he be ripped off?
Han Deyi sneered, "You're just being clever."
Some people are like this, they think they are very smart and like to show off their cleverness in front of others, knowing that their tricks can be seen clearly by others.
…
After Gu Jianguo and the others left, Wu Anbang's wife whispered to him, "Didn't you say that Lao Wang, the guy you drove with, lost money on the goods he brought back from the south? Why did you even go so far as to urge your brother-in-law and the others to go south to get goods for business?"
Wu Anbang glanced at her and said, "Aren't there still many people who can make money?"
Do you make money by going to the south to pick up goods?
Of course not. A few months ago, Lao Wang brought back a batch of coconuts from the south, thinking he could make a fortune. However, when he got the coconuts to them, they were all rotten.
However, he didn't want to tell Han Deyi and the others about this. In the past few years, he was inferior to Han Deyi in every way, but now he has finally surpassed him. She wants to maintain this comfortable feeling forever.
…
Gu Jianguo returned home. Wang Yueju was chopping pig grass, Yimin was knitting a sweater, and Erhui was washing clothes. He walked over, took the knife from his wife, and sat down to continue her work.
"What did you say?" Ever since Gu Jianguo went to the Han family last night, Wang Yueju's heart hadn't been at peace. No one wanted to not get better, but she was also filled with confusion about the unknown future.
Gu Jianguo recounted his meeting with Wu Anbang and added, "I think his words are a little exaggerated. However, I've discussed with Lao Han that after the crops are planted, we should go to the provincial capital first. Then we can go to the south. We'll know if there's any opportunity there."
This was the result of his discussion with Han Deyi. Hearsay is not as good as seeing it with your own eyes.
