Chapter 24 Arrival

Gu Laoliu was carrying a small cloth bag on his shoulder. He wandered around the military district’s family compound for a long time but couldn’t get in. He didn’t write to his son when he came. As soon as the old woman got off the train, she was pulled over by her old sisters to chat, and they sent her to the family compound to give the little gadgets she brought to her eldest grandson.

The guards in this military district’s family compound are like leeks, one crop after another pops up. The kid on duty now didn't even know himself, and he was too embarrassed to go up to him and say that he was Gu Xichao's father.

So, at noon, Gu Laoliu sat under a big crooked tree a few dozen meters away from the entrance of the family compound, which could block some of the sun.

Er Gouzi pushed the iron ring with his hands, hopping slowly on his short legs, sweating profusely.

While running, he turned his head to look back, and accidentally bumped into something and suddenly took a few steps back.

When he looked up, he saw a pair of cloudy eyes with a smile staring at him. Ergouzi's feet shivered and he sat down on the ground. The iron ring rolled off, leaving only an iron rod in his hand.

Gu Laoliu had a small cloth bag on his shoulder. When he looked at the little kid who bumped into him, his whole face shrank into a wrinkle like a bun.

He put the bag on the steps by the roadside, not knowing how to comfort the baby. At that time, the eldest and the second child just let them cry and howl like crazy, but now the little baby is so delicate that he will cry if he is touched.

Gu Laoliu looked at Baozizhe who was curled up into a ball and wanted to go over and hug the child. But as soon as he got close, Baozizhe started to cry.

Gu Laoliu stood in the middle of the road, unable to move forward or stop. With one hand on his knee, he slowly squatted down and took something out of the package.

Gu Xiaobao saw Ergouzi squatting on the ground crying from a distance. There was an old man squatting next to him. The man's hand kept reaching into his bag to touch something.

He suddenly remembered what his mother had told him, and vaguely felt that something was wrong. He walked with his short legs, crouched down, and quietly moved towards the uncle standing guard at the door, measuring the height of the bushes. He pinched his nose as he ran and breathed with his mouth wide open.

Gu Laoliu had just taken something out of his bag when someone patted his shoulder. He turned around and saw a clean-shaven young comrade in military uniform.

Before Gu Laoliu could say anything, the little guy who had just been crying jumped out, hugged the little comrade's legs, and touched them with snot and tears.

The young comrade, who had just changed into freshly washed clothes, quietly wiped away a tear.

The old man sitting on the steps looked increasingly weird.

This old man looks like a person on the stage. The better looking a person is, the more sinister he is inside. This little kid has been bullied so badly that his crying makes him feel distressed.

Gu Xichao went back to the office after training for something and heard someone shouting from a distance.

Gu Xichao took off his training jacket and held it in his hand. He saw the little head popping out from the crack in the door. The more he looked at it, the more familiar it looked.

Gu Xiaobao looked at Gu Xichao and excitedly called him dad.

Before Gu Xichao could react, Gu Xiaobao came running over, following Gu Xichao happily and boasting that he had found the bad guy today.

Gu Xichao felt something was wrong, so he opened the office door and went in to take a look.

A man was saying something excitedly with his back to him.

"dad!"

The sound stopped abruptly.

Even the soldier sitting there on guard didn't know what to say.

No one expected that the meeting of three generations of grandparents and grandchildren would be so dramatic.

Gu Xiaobao walked behind, holding a puppy made of vines in his arms. Looking at the person walking in front of me, my head was confused. Grandpa, what was it like?

It was evening when Su Nianmei rushed back from work. She had just held a meeting in the purchasing office. She would go to the county market tomorrow and also take a bus to the county town to buy some things for the hospital.

As soon as I pushed the door open, I found that the house was much livelier than usual.

An old lady dressed in colorful clothes came up and grabbed her arm, scaring her so much that she almost stepped back to see if she had walked into the wrong door.

Gu Xichao heard the sound and walked out of the kitchen with an apron hanging on her chest. She took two or three steps to Su Nianmei and put her arm on her shoulders easily. "Our mom and dad came today to see us."

Su Nianmei called out "Mom" a little unnaturally.

Ms. Jin was so happy to be called "Mom" that even her eyebrows jumped up. "Meimei."

Gu Xiaobao appeared out of nowhere, dancing with joy, playing with his new toy in his hands, and shouting to Su Nianmei, "Mom, this is a new toy that grandma gave me!"

Su Nianmei freed up her other hand and gently pinched Gu Xiaobao's little face, "Did you thank grandma?"

Jin Chunfen smiled and looked at her daughter-in-law with even greater satisfaction. This daughter is not bad. "Why thank me? This is a gift for my eldest grandson. I haven't seen the child for so many years. This is my fault as a grandmother. This is my compensation to the child."

Gu Xichao listened to this and was afraid of spoiling Gu Xiaobao, so he winked at Ms. Jin and said, "Mom."

Ms. Jin Chunfen, the top seed player of Xingwang Brigade, looked at her son with increasingly resentful eyes. He was criticized for just giving the child a small toy. She didn't know how hard her precious grandson's life would be.

No, she had to ask Lao Gu to add some more dishes for her grandson.

At night, I have to quietly ask Lao Gu to hide the toys and food in Xiaobao’s bag so that the child’s father cannot find out.

Gu Laoliu had almost finished cooking the dish and shouted outside to serve the meal.

Just as Su Nianmei was about to go in to help, she was held down by Jin Chunfen. "Let the father and son take care of the kitchen matters."

The dishes were served quickly. Gu Laoliu and Jin Chunfen sat on one side of the square table, and Su Nianmei and Gu Xichao sat on the other side. Gu Xiaobao sat at one end of the table.

Su Nianmei looked at Gu Laoliu.

The years have left traces on his face, but have also added a touch of softness to his originally serious expression. When Su Nianmei looked over, the first impression that Old Man Gu gave her was one of kindness.

Majestic but kind.

After the greetings, the family started to eat.

Jin Chunfen kept passing the dishes to Gu Xiaobao and Su Nianmei. Gu Laoliu sat beside them, looking at the huge table of dishes, biting his chopsticks with a somewhat depressed look on his face.

Ms. Jin glanced at him lightly. He silently put a piece of meat into Gu Laoliu's bowl.

The former captain of Xingwang Brigade, Gu, looked relieved.

When Su Nianmei saw this scene, she couldn't help but smile like an auntie, and looked at Gu Xichao while smiling.

Captain Gu was still eating his meal seriously, without being disturbed at all.

Su Nianmei's eyes turned back again, and her little finger hanging under the table was suddenly pinched by someone, and two pieces of meat appeared in the small bowl in front of her.

Su Nianmei secretly poked Gu Xichao's waist from below, revealing two rows of white teeth.

Gu Xichao's body was tense, his ears felt warm, and he continued to pick up the dishes without making a sound.

Gu Xiaobao sat beside him, staring at the table full of delicious food, and rubbed his bloated belly.

There was some laughter and chatter at the table, and the atmosphere wasn't awkward. Comrade Jin Chunfen described the changes in Xingwang Brigade in detail. Her excitement and seriousness were so great that even a storyteller could not match her.

Three generations were chatting about family matters, from south to north, from east to west, and Gu Xiaobao was lying on the table listening with great interest.

After dinner, after packing up their things, Gu Laoliu and Jin Chunfen carried Ergouzi into the room, and the three of them played inside.

At night, Su Nianmei was lying on the bed, and she could hear the rustling sound of Gu Xichao turning pages of a book, as if it was being turned on in slow motion, so carefully.

Gu Xichao attended a training school in the army. Su Nianmei thought it might be similar to night school. These days, Gu Xichao always read a few pages of a book before going to bed after coming home at night.

The book cover was wrapped in newspaper and was very delicate, but Su Nianmei was a little disappointed because she couldn't see the contents.

She turned around and looked at him secretly. Under the warm orange light, her slender fingers twisted the paper, and the light and shadow just outlined his firm figure.

Su Nianmei raised her head slightly, her eyes narrowed into slits, and the corners of her mouth turned up.

How lucky is she to meet such a handsome guy.

Gu Xichao glanced at him, paused with the two fingers that were turning the page, and closed the book in an instant.

Su Nianmei's slightly closed eyes immediately closed.

He looks like he is sleeping soundly.

Gu Xichao reached out and placed the book on the bedside table, leaned against the wall, and stretched out his left hand.

Su Nianmei's hair was rubbed twice.

A gentle voice came from above my head

"Be good, go to sleep."

Su Nianmei pouted. Did he treat her like a little treasure?

The next second, someone hugged Gu Xichao's waist.

The thin and soft arm pressed against his abdomen, and a warm current immediately surged up.

Hearing Gu Xiaobao's laughter coming from next door, Captain Gu raised his eyebrows slightly. He stretched out his hand to cover her eyes and turned off the light.

His voice became gentler, even a little hoarse. The voice was low and deep, "Be good."

The person whose face was covered had red cheeks and his heart was about to jump out.
