59th Family Dinner, Celebration

To celebrate Xia Minmin's successful entry into the sixth grade, Xia Jianguo and Li Chunmei specially booked a family banquet at the hotel.

The hotel has a great environment; the private rooms not only have restrooms but also sofas to sit on.

Xia Jianguo said, "Mom and Dad, eldest brother and sister-in-law, Xiaoqing, please sit down first. We can start eating once my younger sister and the others arrive."

"Hello, Grandpa and Grandma, Uncle and Aunt, and Sister Qing."

Grandma Xia said, "Xiao Qing, our Xiao Qing has made something of herself! I've never seen a junior high school student younger than her."

"Old woman, you mustn't say that outside. Our Xiaomin is still young. There are probably many people waiting to see Xiaomin make a fool of herself. If we're going to celebrate, we should wait until she gets into university."

"You're right, we should keep a low profile."

Grandma Xia took out money wrapped in a handkerchief from her pocket, handed one hundred yuan to Xia Minmin.

Xia Minmin quickly refused.

"I dare not refuse such a generous gift from an elder, Xiaomin, please accept it! Your maternal grandparents still have this much money," said Grandpa Xia.

"Thank you, Grandpa and Grandma."

Sun Erni said, "Chunmei, you really went all out this time! Treating us to dinner at such an expensive place."

"Second sister-in-law, please stop teasing me."

Li Zhonghua handed the gift to Xia Minmin, saying, "Xiaomin, these are roller skates from your aunt and uncle. Don't forget to exercise while you're studying."

"Thank you, Uncle and Aunt, I like it very much."

"Chunmei, when you get home, have Xiaomin try on the shoes. If the size doesn't fit, she can exchange them tomorrow with the receipt. I've already spoken to the salesperson."

"Okay, sister-in-law, I understand."

"Xiaomin, these are some original English classics I've selected for you, none of which you've read before."

Li Qing placed a large bag of books in front of Xia Minmin; good heavens, there were at least ten books.

"Thank you, Sister Qing."

Let's sit in the hotel for a while and wait for Xia Xiaomei and Xiao Wu to come over before we start eating.

"Second brother, second sister-in-law, we're here." Xia Xiaomei and Xiao Wu also pushed the door open and came in.

"Uncle and Aunt, Brother Hua and Sister-in-law, hello! We're sorry we're late! We've kept you waiting."

Grandma Xia said, "It's alright, it's not your fault. I heard from your sister-in-law that you two are planning to get married? Congratulations!"

"Thank you, Auntie. Xiaowu and I don't have any relatives in Shenzhen. My parents have passed away, and her parents live far away. We'll invite you and Hua Ge and his wife to dinner sometime, so please come and join us."

"Okay, no problem."

Xia Minmin got up and walked over to Xia Xiaomei, hugging Xia Xiaomei's arm.

"Auntie, Brother Wu."

Xiao Wu looked bitter. Indeed, you can't offend women and children, because if you have both, you're more likely to hold a grudge.

Xia Xiaomei patted Xiao Wu's hand, signaling him to hand over the bag.

Xia Xiaomei took the bag from Xiao Wu. "Xiao Min, this is a watch that your uncle and I gave you. Take a look and see if you like it."

Xia Minmin took the bag, opened the watch box, and was shocked to find a mechanical watch from a mid-range Swiss brand!

Xia Minmin quickly stuffed the watch into Xia Xiaomei's hand, "Auntie, this is too valuable, I can't accept it!"

After Li Chunmei saw the brand name on the handbag, she said, "How can you two be so wasteful? Buying such an expensive watch for a child. You're getting married soon, and you'll have plenty of other things to spend money on."

Li Zhonghua likes watches, loves buying them, and is quite knowledgeable about them. "This watch would cost over six thousand in Hong Kong!"

Xiao Wudao said, "Pretty much. At the end of last year, Xiaxia heard Xiaomin say that she wanted to skip a grade, so we discussed buying her a nice watch. This watch was brought back from Hong Kong by a friend of mine. Its appearance and size are very suitable for a little girl."

Xia Xiaomei then handed the watch to Xia Minmin.

"Second sister-in-law, it's not expensive. Today's gift has two meanings: one is to celebrate Xiaomin skipping a grade, and the other is the 'change of address fee' that Xiaowu mentioned."

Xia Xiaomei touched her nose somewhat embarrassedly, it was all Xiao Wu's fault for insisting that she explain it that way.

Everyone burst into laughter.

“If it weren’t for Xiaomin, I wouldn’t have won the lottery, I wouldn’t have been able to settle down in Shenzhen, and I wouldn’t be with Xiaowu. Besides, this watch is of good quality and will last a long time. In the future, whenever Xiaomin sees this watch, she will think of me and Xiaowu.”

Everyone fell silent, unsure of how to offer any advice.

Grandma Xia said, "Since that's the case, Xiaomin, you shouldn't refuse. Don't let your aunt and uncle down."

"Xiaomin, you've accepted such an expensive gift from your brother Xiaowu, it seems you have no choice but to change your address."

"Why don't Xiaomin change her mind today? We'll be getting our marriage certificate in a few days anyway."

Seeing the expectant expressions on Xia Xiaomei and Xiao Wu's faces, he said, "Uncle."

"Hey!" Xiao Wu was very happy to hear Xia Minmin call him uncle.

Xia Minmin said loudly, "Wishing my aunt and uncle a long and happy marriage and many children."

Amidst everyone's teasing, Xia Xiaomei and Xiao Wu were both at a loss, their faces growing increasingly red.

Xia Xiaomei took the watch out of the watch box and put it on Xia Minmin's wrist.

"It looks great and the size is just right. We've shortened the strap for you, Xiaomin. The extra strap is in the box. We can add it back on if the watch gets too short later."

Xia Minmin hugged Xia Xiaomei, her eyes reddening, "Thank you, Auntie."

Xia Jianguo said, "It's getting late, let's get ready to eat!"

Li Chunmei opened the door to the private room. "Waiter, the food is ready."

"Let's sit down and get ready for dinner!" Xia Jianguo said.

As expected of a hotel that can cost an average person a month's salary, the waiters are well-trained and the dishes are beautifully presented.

Li Chunmei said, "Mom and Dad, how about trying the food here? Someone recommended this restaurant to me, and I heard the food is very good."
